ThePriest orCurate (Japanese:僧侶Priest, or神官Priest) is abasicmagic-wielding class introduced inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and one of the staple recurring classes of theFire Emblem series. In all appearances exceptThree Houses, Priests possess no offensive abilities, and instead wield magicalstaves to aid their allies primarily by healing them. Depending on the individual game, the Priest is a gender-neutral class applicable to both males and females in some, and in others is male-exclusive with their female counterpart being theCleric.
Priests typically possess excellentresistance well above that of any other basic class, in addition to goodmagic. Owing to their non-offensive status, however, their other stats are somewhat low, particularly their physicalstrength anddefense. Their defensive weaknesses and their non-offensive nature make keeping them hidden away from enemies behind fighting units a necessity to use them, but on the other hand, inShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Priests can only gainexperience by being attacked by enemies, a quirk rectified in later games.
In the majority of games, Priestsclass change to theBishop class, which grants them the ability to wield offensive magic alongside their healing capabilities. InGenealogy of the Holy War andThracia 776 they instead promote toHigh Priest, inThe Sacred Stones they have the choice between promoting to Bishop andSage, and inAwakening they can choose between promoting to Sage orWar Monk.
