“ | Interesting. But I've little interest in following someone else's orders. ...Unless they're handed down by a man who can fight for himself. | ” | — Priam, toChrom |
---|
Priam (Japanese:パリスParis) is a world-travelling warrior in the era ofYlisse and a descendant ofIke, the legendary Radiant Hero.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
The Shepards learn of the existence of a Hidden Village, where the descendant of the Radiant Hero resides. Chrom, reluctant to believe such, has the Shepards go to recruit the individual for the fight against Grima. As they get closer to the village, Priam suddenly appears. Chrom states his offer, after being questioned by Priam. Priam thought the offer interesting, but wouldn't accept until he knew the orders, "Unless they're handed down by a man who can fight for himself." A battle insures to test Chrom's army.
After the Chrom's army had won the battle. They learn that everyone in Priam's army were once people that had challenged Priam to battle. People from Ylisse, Valm, Ferox, and even Plegia were in the army. After one soldier asks for a final match against Priam, it can be assumed that he challenged them all for the final time. Priam joins the Shepards.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Priam is a level 20Hero who joins after beatingParalogue 23. Coming towards the final chapter in the game, he comes with massive stats that get higher in difficulty. His only garbage stat is magic, and all his growths except magic and resistance are great, and his resistance base is actually pretty high. His mods are also great too. While his only poor mod is -2 in resistance, his +3 strength, +1 skill, and +2 defense make up for it, and his -2 in magic is fine considering he is a purely physical character. Priam comes with an interesting set of base skills. He skips out onMercenary's skills ofArmsthrift andPatience, and considering they are not the greatest, is okay. He also has some skills that he could not normally obtain otherwise.Swordbreaker andLancebreaker come from theWyvern Rider class tree, and they gives a +50 to hit and avoid when fighting the respective weapons.Luna comes from either theCavalier orKnight class trees, and has a chance to half the enemies' defense or resistance for one strike. For the previously mentioned classes, Priam cannot reclass to any of them. He does have Hero's skills ofSol, which has a chance for a lifesteal effect, andAxebreaker, which gives +50 to hit and avoid when fighting axes. The combination of Luna and Sol is used to replicate the effect ofAether, which was a skillIke gets on promotion to his respective classes. Moving back to Priam, he starts with an A in swords, which lets him use every sword in the game, and he has a B in axes, letting him use theTomahawk is his inventory, and theSilver Axe.
Since Priam has full skill slots and he comes with massive stats, reclassing him is not a priority. However, if the player is willing to grind, Priam has many more options for combat. Reclassing toBow Knight gives him a mount, and access to bows for a very reliable and harder hitting ranged option than axes, and swords only have the magic basedLevin Sword for range, which is terrible in Priam's hands. Bow Knight also increases his HP growth, and reduces his defense growth. For skills,Rally Skill is a good supportive skill to improve other units hit rates, andBowbreaker gives +50 to hit and avoid against bows, and all Priam's breaker skills can be interchangeable depending on the enemy composition.
TheMyrmidon class tree is the best reclass option Priam could want, as we'll discuss in a bit. To start, Myrmidon increases his speed growth, and reduces his defense growth.Avoid +10 is somewhat obsolete with Priam's access to four breaker skills, butVantage is a skill any unit would want with being able to always strike first if they are at 50% HP or below. The main promotion ofSwordmaster gives better bonuses in speed, defense, and resistance, and increases his resistance growth.Astra is decent with being able to strike five times at half damage, since this will always to more damage if all five attacks hit than two attacks at full damage. The final skill ofSwordfaire is the best skill from all his reclass option, and the reason why reclassing to Swordmaster is mostly worth it if the player wants Priam to be the best he can. The alternativeAssassin gives more HP, strength, and skill, and gains bows for a great ranged option, and instead increases his skill growth rather than resistance. For Assassin's skills,Lethality, obtained at level 5, is incredibly unreliable with quite a low activation rate, even with a high skill stat.Pass, obtianed at level 15, is much more useful with being able to move past enemy occupied squares.
Priam's other reclass option isFighter, which keeps his axe rank, but he does lose sword access. However, this is not the worst thing consideringRagnell is not a personal weapon inAwakening. Fighter increases his strength growth, but reduces his skill and speed growths.HP +5 is not a very good skill this late in the game, and the same goes forZeal. Fighter can also promote to Hero, which would give more points of magic, skill, speed, and defense, and he regains swords. The main promotion ofWarrior instead gives more points of HP and strength, gains bows, has the same growths as Fighter.Rally Strength is one of the best rally skills in the game, andCounter deals damage back to the foe, but its usefulness is more limited with Priam's high base defense.
Just like all the other SpotPass characters, Priam can only supportRobin, and can only fatherMorgan. If this pairing is chosen, Priam passes good increases to HP, strength, skill, and defense. He also can pass many great skills so that Morgan does not have to grind for them. However, also just like the SpotPass characters, they all are recruited very late in the game, and are not optimal if the player wants Morgan sooner to be used for more chapters.

Personality
Priam is notably similar to Ike in many respects: he is not the greatest thinker there is, but he is as talented a swordsman as they come. He is very sociable and easy to get along with, and is fond of telling stories from his travels. In his travels across the world, he pursues power and to further develop himself as a warrior, and so enjoys fighting aginst those who are stronger than him.

Endings
Priam, Radiant Hero (single ending)
Priam vanished like a breath on the wind. Did his pursuit of true power lead him to a quiet corner of the map? Or did he move to another continent—one where the Radiant Hero's legend held more meaning?
Priam, Radiant Hero & Robin, High Deliverer
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of her origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—she loved her husband, Priam, above all else.

Trivia
- Priam's Japanese name, Paris, is likely named as a reference to the early stages of the development ofFire Emblem: Path of Radiance; his ancestor, Ike, was named "Paris" in a very early pre-release image ofPath of Radiance.[1] Before Priam was formally unveiled with the SpotPass release of hisparalogue, the presence of this name in the game's credits and support listings forRobin led to much speculation about him being connected in some way to Ike.
- To further Priam's connection with Ike, he possesses bothSol andLuna, the skills that make upAether, which was Ike's signature skill inPath of Radiance andRadiant Dawn.
- Three of Priam's starting skills areSwordbreaker,Lancebreaker, and Luna, which can be learned by theWyvern Lord,Griffon Rider, andGreat Knight classes; these classes are inaccessible to Priam.

English | Priam | From the Ancient GreekΠριαμος (Priamos), possibly meaning "redeemed". In Greek legend Priam was the king ofTroy during theTrojan War and the father of many children includingHector andParis.[2] |
Japanese | パリス | Officially romanized asParis. While the name "Paris" is commonly associated withthe capital city of France, it is more probable that in this context he is named in reference tothe mythological Paris, a Trojan prince and hero in Greek mythology. |
