Pegasus Knight
| ||||||
|
ThePegasus Knight (Japanese:ペガサスナイトPegasus Knight) is a flying,pegasus-mountedclass which debuted inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and has appeared in everyFire Emblem series game to date exceptEngage, in which the class is instead divided into three separate weapon-specialist classes:Sword Flier,Lance Flier, andAxe Flier. It is replaced in the standard gameplay ofFates by the otherwise identicalSky Knight class, but the Pegasus Knight class itself is available via promotionaldownloadable content. In almost all of its appearances, it is abasic class whichpromotes to theFalcon Knight in most cases; the exceptions areThracia 776, in which it is instead anadvanced class, andFates, where (like all other DLC-exclusive classes) it is aspecial class capable of reaching level 40. In all appearances they wieldlances, except whendismounted inThracia 776.
Among basic classes, Pegasus Knights are rather frail and somewhat lacking inHP,strength anddefense, but compensate for it with unusually highresistance for a physical unit, highspeed andskill, and excellentmobility unhindered byterrain penalties. As the archetypical flying unit, they like all others possess a distinctvulnerability tobows and, depending on the game, some or allwind magic tomes. While in general risky to use for these shortcomings, Pegasus Knights will typically overcome their statistical flaws with leveling and prove to be rewarding to use; they are particularly efficient at combating magic-wielding units with their high resistance, and atrescuing allied units quickly.
InShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light andMystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights instead promoted toDracoknights; the Falcon Knight was introduced inGaiden and became the Pegasus Knight's standard class changed form fromGenealogy of the Holy War onward. Other class change options have existed for Pegasus Knights throughout the series:The Sacred Stones gave them an alternative promotion choice with theWyvern Knight, as didAwakening with theDark Flier. In the remakesShadow Dragon andNew Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights can promote to either Falcoknight or Dracoknight depending on the class change item used, with Dracoknight being more common. InThracia 776, the Pegasus Knight functions as the promoted form of thePegasus Rider instead. In two games they have the ability todismount: inMystery of the Emblem they becomeKnights when dismounted, and inThracia 776 they merely become a dismounted version of themselves; in both cases, they are forced to use only swords while dismounted.
