Our Chosen Paths (Japanese:人の行く道The Way People Go) is the twenty-first chapter ofFire Emblem: Three Houses in the Azure Moon route.

Plot

Byleth,Dimitri, andGilbert confront the man who Margrave Gautier arrested. He reveals thatPatricia was the only one who was supposed to be unharmed during theTragedy of Duscur. Gilbert speculates she may have wanted to return to the Empire to be with herhusband anddaughter and reveals his spies have confirmed her involvement. Afterwards, Dimitri decides that he cannot continue lingering on the Tragedy and reaffirms his desire to parley with Edelgard.

The week before the final battle, Dimitri and Byleth meet Edelgard andHubert at a neutral point to discuss her motives and the future. Edelgard explains that she believes the cost of the war she has started is worth saving those who would be trampled by the current status quo, and that her ultimate goal is to stop the cycle of the strong trampling the weak. Dimitri retorts that her actions will only benefit the strong and that she is deaf to the suffering she has caused in the pursuit of her ambitions. Realizing they are at an impasse, Dimitri returns the old dagger he once gifted to her before they part ways for good.

The day before the final battle, Byleth pays a final visit toJeralt's grave. Recalling his last words and his desire for Byleth to give their mother's ring to the one they love, Byleth can decide to propose to anyone they have an S-support with, gender permitting. Afterwards, Dimitri launches the siege of Enbarr. Hubert personally commands the last line of defense between Dimitri and the Imperial palace, but is defeated and killed. Out of options, Edelgard undergoes a process to transform herself intoa Demonic Beast of extreme power.
