Personality
While Novala puts on a face of respect whenRiev is present, he appears to resent him in private and is eager to take his place. The way Novala and Riev discuss their "master" may imply that he is loyal tosomeone other thanGrado, but he is killed before this can be elaborated. One of Novala's primary goals was to garner fame and glory.
Novala is shown to take delight in the suffering of others and is remorseless when he sends theRenais citizens away to be eaten by aBael lurking in the nearby mountains. He also asserts that he may do as he likes during war and continues to express no remorse for his actions when confronted byEirika.
