Norne (Japanese:ノルンNorun) is anarcher in the Fire Emblem series, appearing inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon andFire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem.

Role

InFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Norne is a newly introduced character. If the player has lost two or more units during the prologue (including thedecoy), Norne will volunteer to join the Altean army and show up at the end of the prologue along withDraug, informing him that enemy reinforcements are approaching from the west. She then escapes with Draug,Marth, and his group of knights, and accompanies Marth for the rest of theWar of Shadows.

As the prologue is automatically skipped in hard mode, Norne cannot be recruited in the mode.

Analysis

Norne joins with lower base stats than Gordin, who has bad base stats already, except for one extra point of Speed. She has a high Speed growth and huge Sniper promotion bonuses, but her slow EXP gain as an Archer means it will be a long time before these take effect. Otherwise, she suffers from the same problems as Gordin: terrible base stats, bad movement, and a complete liability on enemy phase. She isn't even available on higher difficulties, where she would otherwise be somewhat useful. Regardless of her flaws, since she is only available on normal mode, the enemies she faces will be quite weak, so a dedicated player can make her work. Norne is just a novelty unit, especially considering her rather obscure recruitment condition.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

Norne continued to serve Marth as a soldier of Altea after theWar of Shadows. She initially stays behind to defend Altea while Marth goes to quell the insurrection of GeneralLang in Grust. Norne is present forHardin's invasion. She subsequently flees to Grust alongside the Altean knightFrey. They reunite with Marth at Arverne Castle and join him in his battle against Lang.

Analysis

Norne joins significantly later than fellow ArchersGordin andRyan. Additionally, she joins later thanWarren andCastor who are in the bow-wieldingHunter class. The pre-promoted SniperJeorge also joins relatively soon after Norne, bringing with him the legendaryParthia. Despite her late arrival compared to other bow units, Norne has little to distinguish herself. She joins at level 5 with underwhelming bases and growths. Her C rank in bows may prove helpful and means she isn't too far off from Parthia access. Her re-classing options are quite dismal. She is barred access from the Hunter–Horseman class line, as these classes are locked to male units in FE12. The only other class where she can make use of her decent bow rank isGeneral. Norne can attain A supports with both Gordin andDraug, two early game units who—if the player chose to invest in them—might gain some situational use from Norne's support. Overall, Norne is outclassed greatly by other bow users and will struggle to find a truly valuable niche in the player's army.

Norne's an archer who fights on the side of Altea. She's a cheerful, active member of the team who'll do anything to serve Altea, no matter how hard the struggle!	Norne had a childhood friend called Kris, and it's thanks to her friend's influence that she decided to join Altea's forces.	At the start of the War of Heroes, when Altea Castle fell, Norne managed to escape, deftly making her way around the enemy forces to rejoin Marth!	Norne responds to even the most difficult situations with a positive smile. I'm sure her cheerful spirit will keep everyone else going too!
