Nemesis (Japanese:ネメシスNemesis) is a character who appears inFire Emblem: Three Houses. He was a significant figure in the history ofFódlan; he fought in theWar of Heroes that led to its formation, his actions ended up giving Crests to humanity, making him partially responsible for the creation of theCrest system that exists in modern Fódlan.
Biography
Nemesis was a leader of a group of bandits. With the help fromthose who slither in the dark, Nemesis stole the remains of the goddessSothis from the Holy Tomb. He acquired Sothis'sCrest of Flames from her blood and had her bones crafted into theSword of the Creator. With his newfound power, he later went to Zanado, the Red Canyon, and slaughtered severalChildren of the Goddess, and used their bodies to gain even more power, bringing war to the continent.[3] This would later be known as the Red Canyon Tragedy.[4] During his campaign, Nemesis gathered support from fellow humans for his cause by claiming to be liberating them from the rule of the Children of the Goddess, recruiting in this way strong allies who later became the10 Elites.[5][6] Despite this, it is suggested Nemesis's allies were unaware of his involvement in the Red Canyon Tragedy.[7]
In the Imperial Year 91 at the Tailtean Plains, Nemesis's Liberation Army clashed with theAdrestian Empire, where he fought and was killed in battle bySeiros. Afterwards, in order to use him as an inspiration to the masses, and because he and his army were already considered heroes by many,[8] Seiros spread the false narrative that Nemesis was granted the Sword of the Creator and the Crest of Flames bySothis, and he slew several evil gods only for his power to drive him mad.
IfByleth choose to lead theGolden Deer, those who slither in the dark's millennium-long plan for revenge against Seiros culminates in his resurrection in Imperial Year 1186. Rhea speculates this occurs as a consequence of Shambhala's destruction breaking his seal, as the blood of Sothis contains an incredible power unmatched by the blood of other children of the goddess.[9] Nemesis raises an army of undead soldiers and marches through eastern Fódlan in an attempt to reach Seiros at Garreg Mach Monastery, but he is slain byLeicester forces led by Byleth andClaude.

Rhea: Nemesis was originally the leader of a group of bandits. He plundered the Holy Tomb and stole the remains of the progenitor god. When Nemesis appeared in Zanado some time later, he already wielded the Sword of the Creator.
Byleth: How did he get the Sword of the Creator?
Rhea: The legend that the goddess gifted him the sword so that he could fight the wicked gods...is false. That story was created after the fact. I do not know how Nemesis obtained the sword, or why he appeared in Zanado. But he used that sword to massacre the people there. The children of the progenitor god. From their corpses he gained even more power, and brought war to Fódlan... A mere bandit like Nemesis would not have been capable of anything so monstrous on his own...
Seteth: It was surmised that someone was collaborating with Nemesis, and there was a massive investigation to uncover who it was. But the truth was never discovered. I am now certain that his accomplices were those who slither in the dark." —Rhea andSeteth in Silver Snow'sChapter 19,Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑"You must not allow Fódlan's bloody history...the Red Canyon Tragedy...to repeat itself..." — Rhea in Silver Snow'sChapter 19,Fire Emblem: Three Houses

- ↑"Kusakihara: In that world, the Nabateans were a race of people who could transform into dragons, and ruled as gods over each territory across Fódlan. However, they were hated by the Agarthans, the so-called Those Who Slither in the Dark, and the Agarthans conspired to overthrow the Nabateans. They planned to teach humanity their skills of crafting powerful weapons from the bodies of Nabateans, and that plan was carried out by the human, Nemesis. As for how things resulted for the humans who received said power… They yearned for more power, killed dragons larger than themselves to use their bones as materials to create even more powerful weapons, and so on—that's how the Ten Elites came to be." —Nintendo Dream May 2020 Issue, translated by Nintendo Everything,Published: April 12, 2020,Retrieved: March 25, 2021
- ↑"Why does Seiros despise us so? What did King Nemesis do to incur such unyielding wrath? Perhaps it was a mistake to accept his offer. In any case, that is all in the distant past now..." —Fragments of a Forgotten Memoir in the Shadow Library ofAbyss,Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑"Why did Seiros (Lady Rhea) appropriate Nemesis and the Ten Elites as heroes in her history?
Kusakihara: Because from humanity's perspective, Nemesis and the Ten Elites were thought of as heroes. She can't create a history that completely ignores the feelings of humans upon ruling over humanity. So while preserving them as heroes, she was able to rewrite other parts of history to her advantage." —Nintendo Dream May 2020 Issue, translated by Nintendo Everything,Published: April 12, 2020,Retrieved: March 25, 2021 - ↑"Claude: Nemesis? That Nemesis? Do you really think the ancient King of Liberation has been brought back to life?
Rhea: Perhaps the seal was broken when Shambhala fell... An incredible power that we children cannot hope to match dwells within the blood of the progenitor god. Nemesis obtained that blood, so it would not surprise me if that were the case." —Claude and Rhea in Verdant Wind'sChapter 22,Fire Emblem: Three Houses
