Neimi (Japanese:ネイミーNeimi) is a character ofFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She is the childhood friend ofColm and hails from the village of Lark.
Biography
Neimi grew up in the Renais village ofLark, being the daughter of a cleric of the highest order.[2] When she was young, her mother died from illness,[2] leaving her in the care of her grandfather, the renowned hunterZethla.[1] From a young age, she was taught how to use a bow and hunt alongside her grandfather,[3] learning how to properly maintain her bow[4] as well as how to discern objects from great distances,[5] eventually receiving her grandfather's old archery gauntlet as a keepsake, which she resized for her own usage.[6] During one of these hunts, she found a fox kit and took him in as a cherished pet.[7] She also formed a friendship withColm, who would often help her out whenever she was in need and continued to look after her when her grandfather passed away.[8]
WhenGrado invadedRenais, the knights of Renais were no longer able to fend off bandits for the citizenry;[9] due to this, Bazba's Bandits were able to attack the village of Lark, razing it to the ground and killing its inhabitants.[10] Although Neimi and Colm were able to escape, Neimi was distressed to find that she had lost her hand mirror, a keepsake from her mother.[11] Despite Neimi's protests, Colm went to steal it back from the bandits,[12] leading Neimi to seek out the help of others to keep him safe. She eventually foundEirika and her army, believing them to be mercenaries, and tearfully pleaded with them to help her, offering her assistance with a bow in return. Once the bandit's lair had been cleared out and the two friends had been reunited, they joined the traveling group upon Colm's request, having nowhere to return to otherwise. Neimi continued to fight alongside the Renais army during their campaign against Grado and, eventually, the Demon King, fastening her hand mirror to a leather strap so as to not lose it again.[2]
After the war, Neimi returned to Lark, either marrying Colm and raising two children alongside him,[13] or living out a few years in quiet before moving to the capital of Renais to become an archery instructor for the military.[14]

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Neimi, as typical of a GBA-eraArcher, has bad base stats. Her offensive growths are great, but her bow lock limits her experience gain. Her defenses are consistently bad, and when combined with her inability to counter at 1 range, she has a horrible enemy phase performance. She can only use D levelBows at base, but with theSteel Bow's rarity early on and weight, she is effectively locked toIron Bows for quite a while, further compounding her poor offense. She does have a quick Colm support to boost her offensive parameters, but this does not completely alleviate her issues (especially her speed), and it only helps when Colm can be near her and is deployed.
Neimi is the only user of the Orion's Bolt. While it does sell for a hefty price, Neimi is still the only unit who can use it, thus meaning she has no competition for it. She is also one of only two units who will always wield bows, with Innes being the other. However, Innes requires significantly less investment than Neimi, and his base A-rank in bows means that he has better access to strong bows than her. Neimi will become stronger than him, but bow users are not in high demand, and Innes is usually good enough.
As with all unpromoted units that are not theLords, Neimi has two promotion options, but for her there is not much of a choice, asRanger is a much better choice for her thanSniper. Ranger gives her more movement,Canto, and access toSwords, allowing her to counter on enemy phase (albeit only at 1 range). Sniper does haveSure Strike, but it rarely makes a difference because she rarely has accuracy issues, and even when she faces shaky hit rates it has too low of an activation rate to be useful unless she is of a high level. Sniper does have higher strength and gives a better boost to her bow rank, and Ranger does possess a weakness to horse slaying weapons and cannot use ballistae, but these advantages are not as significant as Ranger's advantages.
Overall, due to her lack of 1-2 range–or even 1 range when she is not a Ranger–as well as poor base stats and poor defense, Neimi is generally not great unless the player gives her a decent amount of training.

Trivia
- There is a typo in Neimi and Gilliam's A Support. Neimi talks about Cormag when instead she should be referring to Colm. This error was caused due to Cormag being written similar to "Coma", which is Colm's Japanese name.
- In theMay 31, 2004 build ofFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Neimi was namedメアリMary. A relic of this is that her character palettes are labeled "mer" in the game data.
- Similar toDorothy fromFire Emblem: The Binding Blade, Neimi's battle sprites show her wearing a skirt despite not wearing one.

Neimi: How in the world...? Did you know him?
Garcia: Of course. He was THE master archer. Sorry. But...that hand mirror hanging from your waist...
Neimi: Oh, this? It's a keepsake from my mother. I had it stolen from me once, so I've made this leather strap for it. I can tie it to my belt and take it with me everywhere now.
Artur: It's... Excuse me, but may I look at it for a moment? Hm... Yes, well, that is interesting. If my memory serves, this is quite a valuable mirror. It is a gift given only to clerics of the highest order. Few of these mirrors exist, and for you to have one means your mother...

[...] He was a great archer. One time, a snake was attacking a bird nest on a tree in a mountain far away. He aimed at the snake and shot it down.
Gilliam: Incredible. He was able to pick out and hit a snake from that distance? Your grandfather must have been a great archer.
Neimi: Yes, he was. And that's why I've been staring into the distance. I've been training constantly on the field, and my vision has improved. See that tree in the distance?
