I'm sorry to have worried you. When I see an injured person, I must help. I seldom think of the consequences to myself.
— Natasha toSeth

Natasha (Japanese:ナターシャNatasha) is acleric who appears inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She was acleric inGrado's Imperial Temple until EmperorVigarde silenced one of the temple's leaders. Branded a traitor, Natasha fled the temple in an effort to tell someone outside the empire what she knew about Vigarde's intentions.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Natasha first appears inChapter 5, trying to evade theGrado army inSerafew. She bumps intoJoshua, who remarks that she looks flustered, she attempts to tell Joshua about the dark events concerning princeLyon, but he states that it is not his problem. Some Gradosoldiers find her and order her to surrender, but she protests, trying to convince the soldiers that theemperor is not himself.Eirika appears, confused as to why acleric would betray the throne of Grado. Natasha takes the opportunity to run to Eirika to inform her of her burden of knowledge. However, Eirika tells her to wait until the battle has ended. During the battle, Natasha can recruit Joshua by speaking to him. Afterwards, Natasha shares her story of Vigarde's change of character and his intention to destroy theSacred Stones. Following this encounter, Natasha joins Eirika's party and travels with her for the rest of the game.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Natasha joins in Chapter 5 as a level 1Cleric with a base D rank in staves. Having a D rank prevents her from using staves likeBarrier, but it allows her to useTorch andMend. Natasha is underleveled; being level 1 puts her further away from promotion, which is particularly noticeable in Chapter 5. She relies on staves to gain experience, and as experience gained from staves is very low and Natasha has nine levels to gain, she will be too low-leveled to promote by the time many other units can without significant favoritism.

Natasha has to compete withArtur,Lute, andMoulder for her promotion item, aGuiding Ring. Each other unit can reach promotion before Natasha—Artur and Lute can enter combat to gain experience faster, and Moulder is at a higher level and can use better staves, Additionally, Lute can promote toMage Knight rather than Valkyrie—which is not limited to lower-might light magic—and Artur and Moulder can promote toSage for access to anima magic or toBishop forSlayer.

Natasha generally compares unfavorably toMoulder; despite joining three chapters later than Moulder, her base level is lower than his, her durability is worse, and her staff rank is lower at D in comparison to Moulder's C. Natasha's unique niche over Moulder is her alternate promotion choice; instead of a Sage, she can promote into aValkyrie, which gives her a mount, and she has better growths than him aside of skill, HP and defense. However, Natasha does not have the defense to stay on the front line, and does not have unique access to mount utility, even as a staff user;L'Arachel joins before Natasha could likely promote, and Lute will likely reach promotion level first and can promote to Mage Knight, which has staff access. While L'Arachel and Lute will likely have less staff level than Natasha, she does not have unique access to such a niche, and she does not get access to Slayer as a Valkyrie.

Natasha's promotion options areValkyrie andBishop, both of which offer different advantages. Bishop is the better default choice, as it gives her Slayer, making her great against monsters, and a higher staff rank. Valkyrie is not entirely outclassed though, as it does give one more movement, increasing her versatility, and is a perfectly viable alternative depending on what the player wants from her.

Personality

Natasha is an honorable cleric. No matter the situation, she cares first and foremost for the well-being of others. On the battlefield, she is often the first healer to arrive to aid the wounded. In doing so, she sometimes forgets to analyze her surroundings, and gets in trouble more often than she should. She is humble, thinking nothing of the healing work that she does, only that it is her duty to protect others. She is supportive of her friends, no matter their background or home country, and strives to learn about the struggles of her own country so that she can better lend herself to help.

In her interactions with other people, she is generally shy at first, but easily warms up to conversation. Though she is a servant of the church, she stretches her bounds, participating in bets withJoshua and conversing withKnoll about top secretGrado information. She is very sweet, praisingFranz for his pure heart and his handiness, and helpingCormag with an injured kitten. Both Cormag and Joshua remark that she has a nice smile.

Natasha says that she was born in a village near the border of Grado andRenais, and that she was always worried about the safety of that village. At some point in time, she elected to serve Grado's Imperial Temple, where she had a mentor she admired. She admits to seeing themages of the temple, but not associating much with them, as they and the clerics differ in philosophy. Eventually,Vigarde came to the temple and had Natasha's mentor killed for blasphemy. Natasha then fled, and ended up inSerafew, where she metEirika.
