Nah (Japanese:ンンNn) is a playable character inFire Emblem Awakening. The daughter ofNowi from the future, she travelled back from the future to aid her mother andChrom in their war againstGrima.

Role

Nah is one of three manaketes present in the game, with the others beingNowi,Tiki, and possiblyMorgan.

After Nah's parents died, she was sent to live with her father's friend's family. She tried to gain their approval by doing favors such as cleaning up or defending the house fromRisen attacks, but the foster family never approved of her actions, due to her being a half-human, half-manakete hybrid. Because of this, she developed a serious, mature attitude.

Nah traveled back in time withLucina and the other children to prevent the disastrous future, but was separated and ended up in ahaunted mansion. The haunting turned out to be hordes ofRisen. Nah fled from theRisen Chief and got trapped in a room by herself. The mansion's walls would constantly crumble and reform, making it difficult for Nah to escape. Eventually either her mother orChrom were able to reach and speak with her. If Chrom speaks to Nah, he will offer to guide her to safety, pushing aside Nah's ability to turn into a dragon. Regardless of who speaks with her, both are confused by her unusual name.

After the Shepherds defeated the Risen Chief, Nowi and Nah showed each other their rings, confirming their status as mother and daughter. Nah broke into tears upon remembering that Nowi died in her time, but Nowi comforted her. Afterward, Nah joined the Shepherds.

Personality

Nah, unlike her childlike mother, expresses herself to others in a mature and reserved manner. Nah expresses her disapproval of her mother's carefree attitude often.^[1] While she often maintains her mature aura, she is shown to have her outbursts.^[2] She also seems to have some insecurities that stem from being a mix of manakete and human blood.^[3] She was treated badly by her foster family, and constantly tried to gain her approval, but her attempts were always rejected.^[4] Nah also has a handful of fears that would be considered childish; she thinks of some forests as frightening because there might be ghosts there.^[5]

Despite her mature demeanor, she has many interactions with the other children that emphasize her immaturity. She insists on followingBrady because she realizes that he is a kind and protective person, insisting that he is her brother since she always has wanted a brother like him.^[6] She also pestersGerome about his mask, wishing to touch it, then later revealing she wants to see his face and trying to force the mask off.^[7] She also seems to be possessive, practically forcingInigo to marry her if they attain an S ranksupport,^[8] and threatening to eat him if he refuses.^[9]

Nah seesNaga as a deity, and prays to her.^[10] Naga's responses to her prayers seem to often be comedic in nature, simple things like telling her to go to bed earlier.^[11] as well as telling her andMorgan to "get a room".^[12]

Gerome and Nah were married and settled down near Wyvern Valley. The wyverns bowed to their new dragonkin mistress, and the couple became the first true lords of the valley.

Morgan's memory never returned, but he didn't seem to miss it much and lived happily with Nah. Later, scholars would speculate he had come from a different future than the other children.

Yarne tried desperately to find a safe haven after the battles were done. While Nah endeavored to steer them clear of trouble, they soon realized the best place was Ylisse, where their journey began.

Trivia

• As with the other children characters ofAwakening, Nah's birthday matches the Japanese release date of aFire Emblem series game: March 29th was the release date ofFire Emblem: The Binding Blade in 2002.
• During Awakening's early post Japanese release she was often called Soso in the English fanbase, as the katakanaンn andソso can be difficult to distinguish depending on the font, and "Nn" seemed too absurd to be her actual name.
• In unused map templates left inAwakening as unused data, Nah is labeled by the nameルル, which can also be interpreted as "Lulu"^[13].
