Ancient Archanea
Naga presided over the divine dragon tribe at the end of the golden era of the dragons of Archanea, and willingly became aManakete along with the majority of other dragons in order to survive the degeneration of the dragons. When theearth dragons turned feral and attacked the fledgling human population after refusing to become Manaketes, Naga led the divine dragons in a war against the earth dragon in order to protect mankind. The divine dragons emerged victorious from the war, and Naga sealed the earth dragons in theDragon Altar using theBinding Shield.[2] She entrusted the guardianship of the Table toMedeus, the sole earth dragon manakete.[3]
Jugdral and the Miracle of Dahna

Unbeknownst to Naga, a single earth dragon escaped the war:Loptous, who had undergone blood rites with the bishopGair, possessed him, traveled toJugdral and there established theLoptrian Empire. Nearly two hundred years after the Loptrian Empire's foundation, Naga learned of its existence and the role of Loptous in its abuse of humanity. In response she recruited eleven other dragons, includingForseti andSalamander, and with them travelled to Jugdral and reachedDahna Fortress, the last fort against the Empire. Naga then underwent blood rites withHeim, transforming him into the leader of theTwelve Crusaders and granting him her power through their blood pact, in the form ofHoly Blood and theBook of Naga, the tome channeling her power. This would go down as theMiracle of Dahna. Heim and the Book of Naga would prove to be crucial in the defeat of Loptous and his then-present host, Gair XVII, with her power being the only hope of truly piercing that of Loptous.[4] Naga's holy blood was passed on through the descendants of Heim, the rulingBelhalla dynasty ofGrannvale.
Death
In order to grant humans a way to protect themselves from other dragons who wish them harm, Naga forgedFalchion from another of her horns. She placed Falchion and the Binding Shield in theFane of Raman, put her infant daughterTiki to sleep in theIce Dragon Temple, and commandedGotoh and the other manaketes to observe and protect humanity.[1] With these last acts accomplished, Naga apparently died, with the location of her death said to beThabes.[5]
Thousands of years after her apparent death, near the conclusion of theWar of Heroes,Marth encountered a Manakete calledNagi who is strongly hinted to be some form of reincarnation or avatar of Naga; Nagi assisted Marth in the defeat of Medeus.
Ylisse
At the height ofGrima's first reign of terror, Naga was awakened byan unnamed man descended from Marth through the rite ofAwakening. She conferred her power upon this man in a second blood pact, enabling him to defeat Grima and return him to slumber using Falchion. This man went on to become the first Exalt ofYlisse, and as with Heim's descendants, his descendants also bear Naga's Holy Blood as made manifest by the Brand of the Exalt present on all of their bodies.
One thousand years later, following Grima's revival byValidar of theGrimleal, Naga's assistance was sought byChrom, descendant of Ylisse's founder and wielder of a Falchion whose divine power had faded (or possibly was sealed) with time. Using theFire Emblem, he performed the Awakening rite atMount Prism, and Naga provided both advice on Grima's downfall and granted her power to Chrom, restoring to Falchion the mighty power it had during the era of Marth, as well as the title it had during Marth's time: "Exalted Falchion".
In an alternate future in which Chrom was slain by the Grima-possessedRobin and Grima's reign became absolute, his daughterLucina and the children of Chrom's allies sought Naga's assistance. She granted them passage to the past through theOutrealm Gate, in order to avert the disastrous future; however, Grima caught wind and followed them back in time.
Legacy
Archanea

In Archanea's scriptures ofRaman,[6] Naga is depicted as a giant male[7] warrior known as the "guardian deity" (Japanese:守護神Guardian deity),[8] with his identity as the Divine Dragon King not being common knowledge.[9] Naga was said to have been chosen by the gods to save humanity from monsters who plunged them into despair and near extinction, with around ten-thousand humans remaining.[10] It is attest that light fromFalchion silenced the monsters, while that from theBinding Shield turned them to stone,[11] concluding the disturbance, which would be known as the "Battle of the Guardian Deity Naga" in Archanea's scriptures.[12] Naga created a new era of peace for humanity; he is said to have punished the dragons by forcing them to live as humans.[13][14] After all his efforts, he returned back to the heavens;[15] theFane of Raman was established as a place of worship to him.[16]
Jugdral
In Jugdral at the Miracle of Dahna, Naga was said to have appeared as a little girl, called the "god of light" (Japanese:光神Light God).[17] Many prayers were had at Dahna fortress, waiting for salvation against Loptous. Naga then appeared before Heim, providing him a blood pact and the Book of Naga. Other gods, likeSalamander andForseti, too appeared in Jugdral with human forms, with their dragon identities not being common knowledge.[18]
Fire Emblem Heroes

Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light (Hakoda manga)

Anri is given some of Naga's mythological traits inMaki Hakoda'sShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light manga. As seen during the opening of chapter 45 in volume 10, there is a statue of Anri in a pose similar to Naga's in the third CG image of theMystery of the Emblem opening; most notably showing him with the Binding Shield, a relic Anri never wielded.

Whilst Naga isn't mentioned inFire Emblem, the anime adaptation of the beginning ofMystery of the Emblem,Anri's legends appears to be conflated with Naga's legend in the English version of the "Prince of Aritia" episode from theFire Emblem anime, "The god sent a hero", as well as "A giant among men", are described in the likeness of Anri by a minstrel.

Localization differences
TheLegacy of Archanea appears to separate Naga from the "guardian deity" persona by referring to Naga as a "goddess" and instead attributing an unnamed warrior as the wielder of the Falchion and Binding Shield whom Naga was described to have sent to save humanity from monsters,[19] contradicting the games in Japanese. This entry also conflicts with information fromHeroes both prior[20] and after the book's release.[21]
This misunderstanding appears to also be found in theShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light localization as well, with Gotoh's usage of "goddess" inChapter 25 seemingly referencing Naga.[22] TheShadow Dragon localization previously had him mention "gods",[23] which is more accurate to the usage of神 "kami" in all Japanese versions of the Chosen by Fate chapter:[24][25][a] reading as "god" or "gods".
Similarly, the localization for two ofLena's special skill quotes inHeroes have her mention a goddess,[27][28] ostensibly Naga. The Japanese version uses the less specific神;[29] and prior toHeroes, Lena mentions "Lords" inShadow Dragon.[30]
In Japan, Naga's title of "guardian deity" (Japanese:守護神) is shared withSalamander fromShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light in the Japanese version (the main difference being that was spelt in Hiragana inShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, due to limitations), the god whomMannu wishes to sacrifice the Archanean League to. Like Naga, Salamander shares their name with that of the dragon tribe they are associated with, so it is likely Salamander is the fire dragon ruler. "Guardian deity" is also one of the two names of the unusedGuardian class fromMystery of the Emblem.
Trivia

- The halo found behind Naga's head inMystery of the Emblem's opening can also be found on the infant seen in the fifth CG of the opening. It is implied that infant isAdrah, given that they are being gifted the Binding Shield there. The yellow particles surrounding Naga in the fifth CG are also present around the infant.
- The characterKurthnaga inPath of Radiance andRadiant Dawn derives his name from both Naga herself andKurth, a bearer of Naga'sHoly Blood.
- Naga's title of "god of light" (Japanese:光神) is shared withBaldr.
