TheMyrmidon (Japanese:剣士Sword Fighter) is a sword-wielding class present in theFire Emblem series. Their first appearance was inFire Emblem Gaiden. They appear in most game of the series.Fire Emblem Fates does not include myrmidons in core gameplay, instead featuring the functionally-identicalSamurai class; the Myrmidon class itself does, however, appear in theDLC chapterHidden Truths 1 as the class used byOwain in that chapter.

The class originated as a promotion of theMercenary, akin to theHero of most other games. In most games fromThe Binding Blade onward, the Myrmidon has been depicted as something of a counterpart to the Mercenary, with lower strength and defense in exchange for higher skill and speed.

Their initial strength and defense are lower than those of Mercenaries. To counter this, Myrmidons focus more in skill and speed, making critical hits their trademark; in some games, there are unique swords with higher critical rate (such as theWo Dao and theShamshir) that can be wielded only by this class and its promotions.

Myrmidons, in most games, can be promoted to Swordmasters. Special cases are seen inGaiden,The Sacred Stones, andAwakening; in the former, myrmidons are a second-tier class and can be promoted toDread Fighters, while in the latter two they can be promoted either to Swordmasters orAssassins.

In theElibe andMagvel games, andAwakening, Myrmidons were in general strongly associated with a particular region of the continents (Sacae,Jehanna, andChon'sin respectively) and almost all units of the class are from these places. In other games, however, they can come from any land.
