His route to the Empire takes him through the Miletos District, a collective of free cities which was once a vibrant and wealthy hub of commerce for all of Jugdral.
— Opening narration ofChapter 10

Miletos (Japanese:ミレトスMiletos) is an independent nation ofJugdral located in the continent's south, bordered to the east byThracia and theMunster District, and separated fromGrannvale to the north by the Miletos Channel. Along withVerdane, it is one of two nations of Jugdral to not be founded by any of theTwelve Crusaders.

History

During the era of theLoptrian Empire, inthe year Grann 452, an event known as the "Sorrow of Miletos" occurred in which children were sacrificed in droves to the Empire's dark lord,Loptous; this event may have been the origin of the widerchild hunt practice of theLoptrian religion.

Little is otherwise known of the history of Miletos prior to Grannvale's occupation of it following theBattle of Belhalla, other than that the nation was once wealthy, prosperous and a prominent center ofJugdrali commerce. Following Arvis's ascension to the Grannvale throne and reorganization of the nation into the Grannvale Empire, Miletos was annexed by the Grannvale army and placed under the rule of DuchessHilda ofFriege, who was appointed "Queen of Miletos". Under her reign, Miletos was one of the regions of Jugdral worst afflicted by the child hunts, with the occupation army also being forced to participate despite their wishes. Their fortunes changed with the arrival ofSeliph and his liberation army in Grann 777, who drove the Grannvale and Loptrian occupations out of Miletos en route to his homeland,Chalphy.
