Mercurius (Japanese:メリクルMercury) is a regaliasword introduced inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. It is one of theThree Regalia of theHoly Kingdom of Archanea, known by the epithet "the spectral sword"[1] or "magic blade",[2] and is the sister weapon ofGradivus andParthia. In its original appearance inShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Mercurius was apersonal weapon usable only byMarth, but fromMystery of the Emblem onward it lost this association and became available for use by any sword-wieldingunit.
History
Along with Gradivus and Parthia, Mercurius was stolen from its unidentified origin by the thiefAdrah, and was a valuable asset in his conquering of the land.[3] When Adrah formed the kingdom of Archanea, Mercurius was named one of its three Regalia, and was passed down through the generations of Archanean royalty.
Following the fall of Archanea at the onset of theWar of Shadows, Mercurius was stolen by the army ofGrust. Late in the war, whenMinerva of theWhitewings allies withMarth's liberation army, her subordinateEst heard of Grust's possession of the sword and flew there to retrieve it from them, then gave the blade to Marth as she joined his forces atChiasmir.[4] After the war, Mercurius was returned to the possession of House Archanea, and was given toAstram in his role as the captain of the newly-formed Archanean Free Company.[5] Astram continued to wield it in the intervening years and in theWar of Heroes, taking it with him when he was convinced byJeorge to defect to Marth's army in the face of EmperorHardin's corruption.
On the continent ofFódlan, a rusted sword bearing the name Mercurius and noted to have been used in the War of the Eagle and Lion could be found in the clutches of roaming monsters, taken into the possession of the mercenaryByleth, and used in the war plaguing the continent. What connection this Mercurius bears to the Archanean regalia, if one exists, is unclear.

Trivia
- In every game it appears in but one, Mercurius has the highest, or at least joint-highest, rawmight of all swords in the game in question. The exception isShadows of Valentia, where it is bested by theLightning Sword and theShadow Sword. InMystery of the Emblem, it is in a six-way tie for having the highest might of any weapon in the game, tied withParthia,Gradivus, theDevil Axe,Pachyderm andAura.
