Melady (pronounced /⁠ˈmɛlədi⁠/^[key][1]; Japanese:ミレディMilady) is a playableWyvern Rider inFire Emblem: The Binding Blade. She is a knight ofBern, stewardess ofGuinivere, lover ofGalle, and sister ofZeiss.

Role

In the midst of The Disturbance of Bern, Melady learns ofGuinivere's disappearance and decides to search for her throughout the continent ofElibe. She is first seen askingRuud if he had seen her, but he actually hid Guinivere in a dungeon and replied that he had not seen her, so Melady decides to continue her search.

Later, Melady heads to theWestern Isles and depending on the route the Lycian army goes, she asksOrlo/Zinque about Guinivere. In both cases, they reply that they have not seen her, besides mentioning Roartz. Afterwards, she joinsGalle to continue her search.

After going to theMissur peninsula, Melady learns that King Zephiel left Guinivere in its castle after defeatingCecilia. Upon finding her, Melady says it is time for Guinivere to return to Bern and return theFire Emblem she was carrying. However, Guinivere pulls out a sword and insists to Melady that for reasons of her own she does not wish to return toBern and convinces her to side with Roy's cause, otherwise, Guinivere would commit suicide by stabbing herself with the sword.^[2] Melady then decides to take Guinivere back to the Lycian army and joins them.Later, in the castle of Aquileia, Melady can talk toZeiss, who is in prison by order of Narcian so that he also joins Roy's army. Since then, Melady fights in the Lycian army, later renamed Etrurian army for the rest of the war.

Once the war is over, she returns to her homeland and alongsideZeiss andElen, she helps Guinivere rebuild the Kingdom of Bern. Later, she attends the coronation ceremony of Guinivere as the new Queen of Bern.

Analysis

Melady joins with strong bases in most areas, potent Hard Mode bonuses, good growths, and a high enough level to promote instantly. She has a high attack power and good durability, with a high Defense shrugging off most physical attacks and enough HP to survive a magic attack or two. Her base Speed is decent, and she has high enough Con to wield Killer Lances with no penalty, but she will need either a couple of speed levels or an immediate promotion before she can start reliably doubling. Melady fares well against most enemies; the only real threats to her are high level Magic and Bow users, who can exploit her low Resistance and weakness to arrows. Giving her the Delphi Shield and a Pure Water/Barrier bonus goes a long way to help her survive, especially in Sacae which contains many bow-using enemies. In particular, the enemy AI does not take into account the Delphi Shield's effect, and will thus frequently send units with anti-flier weapons to fight her, even when they do little actual damage. If trained well, Melady is one of the great candidates for the legendaryMaltet spear, as her potential allows her to fight decently against manaketes with this weapon.

Outside of combat, Melady has high Movement and flier mobility, allowing her to easily reach locations that other characters may struggle to get to, and decent Aid to rescue and bring allies with her. While she is unable to carry some characters with high constitution, she can still carry many valuable units just fine. Her mobility is useful for several chapters in a row after she joins, flying across the desert in Chapter 14, above the waters in 14x, and beyond the mountains in 15, along with many more chapters later on with obstacles that significantly slow down the rest of your army.

Zeiss is a great choice for a support partner for Melady (should the player seek one) as he is her only partner with the same movement as her. It is relatively easy to build due to their similar mobility, but bear in mind that there may be times when the player wants to send them in different directions as opposed to keeping them together.

Overall, Melady is a very valuable asset to any team, with solid stats out of the box, weaknesses that need little commitment to patch up, and invaluable flier utility all pushing her as one of the best units ofThe Binding Blade.

Comparison with Zeiss

Compared toZeiss, Melady has the advantage of joining earlier, as both have the same level at the time of their respective joining the army. In addition, Melady has a higher rank in lances than Zeiss, allowing her to use high-level lances earlier than him. When it comes to the legendary S-rankedMaltet, Melady will likely be able to wield it earlier than Zeiss. Their constitution levels have a small difference, however. This implies that Zeiss can rescue units that Melady cannot (such as Dieck or Perceval).

Regarding their stat growths, Melady is faster than Zeiss, although almost all other stats (with the exception of Skill and Resistance) are a bit lower than him. In other words, Melady and Zeiss perform about the same at similar levels, although Melady will most likely have a higher level or be promoted when he joins.

It should be noted that the survival of both is very necessary untilChapter 21 (with the additional requirement of completing that chapter in 30 turns or less) to access its side quest chapter and obtainApocalypse, one of the legendary weapons, since losing one of them before that chapter prevents its obtaining and, therefore, the access to the true ending.

Melady is a wyvern rider of Bern. She's a talented, dedicated soldier who serves as a member of Princess Guinivere's royal guard!	Both Melady and her brother Zeiss were loyal to Bern, but things took a sudden turn when Guinivere opposed her own country in a desperate bid to put an end to the war.	It was a difficult choice, but Melady decided to trust in Guinivere. This meant she would one day find herself fighting Galle, her lover and trusted comrade…	Though she walked a difficult path, Melady fought on with conviction in her ideals. And so she continued to soar through the skies, a proud wyvern rider!
