Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

Book 2

Role

Marisha is found in a village during Marth'sexpedition in Grust. Her grandmother claimed she was only ten years old to protect her from being taken byLang and his men, but she actually has come of age. After finding out Marth wasn't one of Lang's men, her grandmother offers her to Marth as his bride, but Marisha says it's far too early and that she doesn't know what to do. Marisha continued to accompany Marth throughout theWar of Heroes. She trained underLena as acleric prior to the war.

AfterMedeus's defeat, she gets upset thatTiki is getting all of Marth's attention, and claims thatCaeda won't forgive her if she shows even the slightest happiness, which Caeda writes off as nonsense.

Marisha is the only character in the game capable of wielding theThief staff, and effectively fillsLena's place as wielder of theHammerne in Book 2.

InMystery of the Emblem, promotion gains for HP and weapon level consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—thex value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base value. If the character's value for one of those two stats is higher than their promoted class's base value, they will not receive any bonus in that stat.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Marisha joinsMarth's army in Chapter 1 and remains available throughout the game. She stands out as the only unit inMystery of the Emblem Book 2 who can use theHammerne staff, apart from Lena who joins duringendgame 2-3. The staff can be obtained quite early in Book 2—it is available inChapter 5, so Marisha will be able to start repairing weapons quickly. However, Hammerne cannot repair staves and can be sold for a whopping 25,000 gold, arguably more useful than using it to repair weapons. She also has exclusive access to theThief staff if it is obtained inChapter 9. Once it is obtained, Marisha can open chests with it from a distance, further increasing her utility since no other unit can use the staff and it has infinite range.

As a Cleric Marisha needs a Bishop's Ring to promote, which is a very scarce and competitive promotion item. Marisha's base stats are overall not impressive, needing two more points of weapon level to use Physic, and as she joins at a very low level she will need a lot of experience to promote. Even when she does catch up, her magic and durability are on the low side, though she can still perform staff duties as well as any other Bishop.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Marisha will be the first staff user to join your army, besidesWrys in the prologue, and thus will be extremely useful in her joining chapter by providing support through healing. Marisha joins with a impressive C rank instaves, allowing her to use staves such asMend,Warp (on difficulties below Lunatic) andBarrier at base, as well as likely being your first user of theAnew andFortify staves. This is without mentioning how she's the only user of theHammerne staff, besides Lena who joins in the last chapter of the game, letting her repair useful weapons and staves. Her bases are rather low in every area besides luck, but her growths are rather decent. She will not be able to fight enemies well, because of her low defense and HP meaning that she's best kept from the frontlines. She has a wide array of reclassing options, butCleric is considered her best one. If trained to a high level, her strong growths in Magic, Speed, and Resistance make her a viable option againstGharnef.

Overall, Marisha is the best staff user in the game, providing invaluable utility from the beginning and right to the end. She does face some competition fromYuliya who also joins with C staves, but because of her better availability and higher magic growth she is considered the superior unit. Because of her many contributions Marisha is often considered to be one of the best units in the game.

Personality

Marisha easily becomes infatuated with men who she does not deem as monstruous.[2] When meeting Marth for the first time, she admires his kindness and swiftly wants to leave and travel with Marth tohis country.[3] This crush entailed her to continuously daydream over Marth, including her recognizing fictious scenarios as real occurrences,[4] reinterpreting actual interactions,[2] and foreseeing their future such as her planning their wedding.[5] IfKris is male in their third base conversation, Marisha begins to daydream about him after accepting Marth is out of her reach.[6] She also trembles on how to act if she believes there are various respectable men infatuated with her, wanting everyone involved to be happy.[7]

She is often inattentive to others, like with her fanaticizing which, if she is invested enough, can make her completely oblivious to the person she was currently speaking with.[8] She also has a habit of being conclusive on things in an ideal manner in spite of reality, such as believing Marth proposed to her when they first met[2] and not instantly accepting the idea of him already having a fiancée,[9] deducing Marth having his "deep reasons" on the matter;[10] or assuming things about Caeda's life as a princess despite what Caeda tells her[11]—which stems from the belief she will one day live with Marth in a castle.[12] By the end of the War of Heroes however, she appears to recognize Caeda as Marth's lover—saying she cannot compete with her—and even encourages her to embrace him.[13]

Marisha is also insecure about being called a child, easily getting frustrated if she believes someone is implying she is one.[14]

After the War of Heroes concludes, Marisha supposedly became a delinquent of sorts;[15] such a description would contrast with Lena,[16] her teacher.[17] This, furthered by the Thief staff's exclusivity to her inMystery of the Emblem, perhaps indicates their dynamic is comparable toJulian andRickard's: a kindhearted master who wants to help people,[18] and a troublemaking apprentice.[19]
