Mage Knight
| ||||||
|
TheMage Knight (Japanese:マージナイトMageknight) is anadvanced mountedclass which debuted inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is one of the first classes in theFire Emblem series to wield both physical weapons and magic in combination: in its case, it can wieldswords and all three types ofanima magic inGenealogy of the Holy War andThracia 776. In its third appearance inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, however, the Mage Knight is a pure magical class, wielding anima andstaves. After a 19-year absence, the Mage Knight makes a return inFire Emblem Engage, functioning similarly to their portrayal in the Jugdral duology, withlance andaxe-wielding variations introduced alongside the returning sword variation. The Mage Knight is aclass change option forMages in all of its appearances; it is also an option forTroubadours inThe Sacred Stones.
As expected of a mixed-weaponry class, theJugdral andEngage incarnations of the Mage Knight is unique in its balanced stats; while not possessing the same sheer strength in both types as a pure-physical or pure-magical unit, it is competent in both fields. It also possesses unusually highdefense for a magical unit. As a mounted class, inThracia 776 they are capable ofdismounting and are forced to do so for indoor terrain, and unlike most dismounted units will not lose access to any of their weapons. The version of the Mage Knight inThe Sacred Stones fits into a more standard magical unit mold.
InAwakening, a class similar to the Jugdral version of the Mage Knight was introduced, known as theDark Knight.
