Lysithea von Ordelia (pronounced /laɪ'sɪθiə vɑn ɔɹ'diliə/[key]; Japanese:リシテア=フォン=コーデリアLysithea von Cordelia) is a playable character appearing inFire Emblem: Three Houses. She is a member of theGolden Deer house at the Officers Academy.
Biography
Lysithea is the eldest daughter of the house of Count Ordelia, the head of House Ordelia of theLeicester Alliance, and a prodigy in magic. As a punishment to her house for having part in House Hrym's insurrection against theAdrestian Empire in Imperial Year 1168, Adrestian staff were sent by the Empire to replace the people involved. Some of the new staff included members ofthose who slither in the dark, who proceeded to experiment on a young Lysithea and other children from her house. The goal of this experiment was to implant twoCrests into a single person. She was the only survivor and success of the experiment, which resulted in her having white hair and a drastically shortened lifespan. To bring peace to her parents, she rushed her studies to enter theOfficers Academy early in 1180, join theGolden Deer house, and graduate to save her house. According to herself, she was given 5 years, maximum, to live.
If Lysithea is a member ofByleth's class, she returns toGarreg Mach Monastery on the day of the millennium festival and accompanies them throughout the war. Otherwise, she returns to the Alliance. On the Crimson Flower route, she is encountered during the Imperial invasion of Derdriu and is defeated. Byleth can either execute her or spare her; in the latter case, she joins the Black Eagle Strike Force and fights directly under their command for the rest of the war. On the Azure Moon route, she is a member of the Alliance forces fighting at the Battle of Gronder, and can be circumvented or slain at the player's discretion. Lysithea makes no appearances in the story on the Silver Snow route, but it is most likely she is one of the many casualties of the Battle at Gronder.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Lysithea has the highest magical damage output in the game, boasting the highestmagic growth in the game and very highdexterity andspeed growths, though her lowstrength downplays herattack speed in battle. Despite theweight of her spells oftentimes preventing her from doubling enemies, the high might of her excellentdark magic spells will often enable her to kill enemies in one shot—or deal heavy damage if playing maddening—throughout the majority of the game. Lysithea's personal ability,Mastermind grants double skill experience earned in battle, allowing her to reach high weapon levels much quicker than her other allies and granting her incredible spells very early. It additionally doubles her class experience, allowing her to gain mastery abilities such asFiendish Blow even earlier. Thanks to her stellar magic and potential for early access toDark Spikes Τ, she can one-shot theDeath Knight as early as his first appearance inChapter 4 and throughout the rest of the game even on the highest difficulty. However, Lysithea does have a few major weaknesses in her poor defensive growths which prevent her from defeating large amounts of enemies on the enemy phase, a lack of three range spells in her spell list, and in the poor movement of classes that can use magic. As the rest of your units get access to mounts and flying classes, being limited to four movement per turn will cause Lysithea to lag behind the rest of the army and struggle to utilize her destructive potential. These weaknesses are somewhat undermined by the incredible utility of theWarp spell, which will benefit from an enhanced range thanks to Lysithea's amazing magic growth, and by theThyrsus which grants her plus two to her magic range. Thyrsus additionally gives Lysithea a 50% chance to take half damage, which can save her from a lethal hit, but this is not to be relied upon as Lysithea is already prone to being one-shot by a large number of enemies. Still, she can be a solidNosferatu tank against the few enemies, usually spellcasters, that cannot one-shot her.
Lysithea also possesses a Budding Talent forSwords. If trained she gets access toSoulblade, a magical swordcombat art that increases in damage output based on herResistance. With the right sword and a high Resistance stat, this art can deal more damage than her most powerful spells. In addition, thedurability of high-tier swords is much higher than the uses of high-tier spells, allowing Lysithea more uses of Soulblade on each map. However, it is an art locked at one-range, thus, potentially exposing her to counterattacks and attacks on the enemy phase she would not take if she attacked at four-range with Thyrsus. Her low strength and defense otherwise make her sword rank irrelevant—as she would almost certainly deal no damage with non-magical swords—unless you are aiming to promote her into aMortal Savant. At best, her sword proficiency can help her pursue theMercenary orSwordmaster certification just for a strength boost to 9 or 17, respectively, to help alleviate the weight of her spells and give her a better attack speed overall.
Lysithea has a MajorCrest of Gloucester and a MinorCrest of Charon, the former of which occasionally boosts her magical damage potentially netting her more kills, while the latter occasionally boosts her damage with Combat Arts. Unless trained in weapons outside of Reason and Faith, Lysithea will never have use of her Crest of Charon. This crest can also allow her to useThunderbrand'sFoudroyant Strike but her low strength generally makes using it with her a bad idea.
Considering her strengths and growths, the best class progression for Lysithea is to start as aMonk; then promote into aMage and master the class to gain Fiendish Blow; and for the advanced tier, promote into either aWarlock or aBishop. Warlock will enhance her offensive capabilities further, while Bishop will allow her to cast Warp twice per map, along with increasing the uses of her otherwhite magic spells; bear in mind that Warlock's class abilities,Black Tomefaire andBlack Magic Uses x2, will not help Lysithea, as she uses dark magic and notblack magic. The best master class for Lysithea depends on what role Lysithea is best suited to fill in the your army. If you want to double her spell uses or use Warp two times per map,Gremory will be her best class. If you want Lysithea to keep pace with the rest of the army and getDark Tomefaire, promote her into aDark Knight. She may have a weakness inLances but she should still be able to reach a C-rank for the promotion. As a side note, Lysithea is also the only unit that makes the most out of theHoly Knight class, having three offensiveFaith spells stacking withWhite Tomefaire compared to everyone else having only one or two. Holy Knight is still not as good as Dark Knight in terms of class modifiers and boosting offensive spells, but it can still be a good class mostly for its 7 movement and nicheTerrain Resistance ability if the player wishes.
Also worth noting is that her personal abilityMastermind stacks additively withKnowledge Gem and class bonuses, not multiplicatively. For example, using dark magic once as aGremory with a Knowledge Gem equipped increases herWeapon experience by 12—3 normally as her strength, 3 from the class bonus, 3 from the Knowledge Gem, and 3 from Mastermind.
Following the release of the Cindered Shadows DLC, Lysithea has access to the newValkyrie andDark Flier classes. Both help remedy her low movement stat, but Valkyrie also has an inherent increase in spell range. This gives her 3 range on most spells and 5 range if she has Thyrsus. If she masters Warlock to getBowbreaker, she makes for a solid Dark Flier, too. Dark Flier gives her more movement options than Valkyrie, but instead of a range bonus, she getsTransmute. If another unit helps her deal with physical units in an area, Dark Flier Lysithea can nuke out any mages that come after her on enemy phase and then answer by advancing with +3 on all of her stats until the end of the next player phase.
Recruiting for other routes
Lysithea is a valuable addition to your team on any route by virtue of her access to Warp alone, a spell which only Lysithea and two other units can even learn (three with paid DLC). Even if she is recruited fairly late into Part 1, thanks to Mastermind, she can quickly get her weapon levels up to access promotions and her powerful spells and will likely perform the same for the player as she would in theGolden Deer route. If you recruit Lysithea, it is also recommended that you recruitLorenz so that you gain access to his correspondingparalogue which earns you Thyrsus upon clearing it. As mentioned above, Lysithea performs much better with the additional two range for all of her magic and unlocking the paralogue only requires you to recruit Lorenz, after which he can be benched for the rest of the game at no additional cost to the player. It is also worth noting that the Blue Lions have no native Warp user in their initial roster, making her an especially attractive choice on Azure Moon (especially if the player does not have the DLC for Hapi).
The only route in which it is possible to recruit Lysithea post-timeskip is the Crimson Flower route*. If spared, Lysithea starts off with much lower stats and weapon proficiencies than when you fought her in theprevious chapter and her starting class is Mage instead of Gremory. These starting conditions mean that she has a limited spell list and stats that leave her susceptible to death from nearly every enemy that attacks physically. Additionally, when recruited at this point in the game she cannot obtain Thyrsus if it was not already obtained and there are only four more mainline chapters left. Nevertheless, you can increase her proficiency inFaith magic to a least a B-rank to unlock Warp by giving her some preference in Instruction sessions and deploying her in Auxiliary battles and Paralogues. Even if deployed as an adjutant equipped with faith magic, she will still net her the boosted weapon experience she obtains from her personal skill. You can then reclass her to aBishop or Gremory to double her uses of Warp. The late game maps of the Crimson Flower route are filled with terrain with heavy movement penalties for all non-fliers. Having as many as four users of Warp in those maps in Lysithea,Linhardt,Manuela, andHapi will enable easier movement about the map.

Personality
Lysithea is often called a prodigy, praised for her talent with magic. She is extraordinarily hardworking, and despises her abilities being credited to her two crests; the Crest of Gloucester and Minor Crest of Charon. She is constantly studying, barely ever found doing anything else.
She dislikes partaking in physical activity, due to her weakened body, but despite this, hates being told she can't do something. She also dislikes being treated as a child, as the youngest student at the officer's academy for the duration of White Clouds. Regardless, she often acts in ways that can come of as childish, and has a fear of ghosts. She tends to feel that she must prove herself, and is quick to anger when talked to in a manner that she believes is condescending, or disagreed with, but often jumps to conclusions quickly, causing misunderstandings.
Lysithea also has a sweet tooth, liking desserts, especially cake. In support conversations withFelix, she describes cake as "the divine essence of the heavens" and claims that "life without cake is no life at all". She also tries to use cake as a bribe in an attempt to avoid being seen as a child, demonstrating how she feels about her image and despises being underestimated.

Endings
Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune (single ending)
Lysithea returned home to help her parents restore their family land. Years later, when the end to their hard work was finally in sight, she relinquished House Ordelia's claim to nobility, ceding the territory to a nearby lord. Shortly thereafter, she and her family disappeared into obscurity.
Byleth, Wandering Flame/Ruler of Dawn & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind)
Byleth announced his engagement to Lysithea shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Before they were officially wed, she returned home, helped her father to restore Ordelia territory, and offered the land up to be governed directly by the new kingdom. Once the affairs of House Ordelia were in order, Lysithea finally married and became queen. Even without her Crests, she proved more than capable in the role, applying her great insight and intelligence toward a better Fódlan. When the rebuilding effort was complete, the couple and their children enjoyed long and peaceful lives.
Byleth, Guardian of Order & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune (Azure Moon)
Byleth announced his engagement to Lysithea shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Before they were officially wed, she returned home, helped her father to restore Ordelia territory, and offered the land up to be governed by neighboring lords. Once her parents had retired and withdrawn, Lysithea finally became the archbishop's wife. Even without her Crests, she proved more than capable of assisting him in his role, applying her great insight and intelligence toward a renewed church. Once the rebuilding effort was complete, the couple and their two children enjoyed long and peaceful lives in the lively household they built together.
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune (Crimson Flower)
Almost immediately after Byleth and Lysithea had celebrated their engagement, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Together they fought tirelessly to bring the war to an end so that Fódlan could have lasting peace. Afterward, they left the Imperial army for Ordelia territory, where they were officially wed. After restoring their war-torn land, the couple vanished from the public eye, along with Count Ordelia and his wife. No records remain of their lives after that, but it is rumored that they retired to a peaceful life in Derdriu, making sweets.
Edelgard, Flame Emperor & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune
After the war, Edelgard and Lysithea threw themselves into the fight against those who slither in the dark. The struggle was long and arduous, but not without its benefits. With careful analysis of ancient techniques, they discovered ways to recover the years of life that had been stolen from them. Afterwards, the new Adrestian emperor and Lysithea, her trusted officer, devoted the rest of their lives to Fódlan's rule. For her counsel in instituting class reforms and ensuring the independence of the people, Lysithea came to be known as the Wisdom of the Empire. The pair of talented women ushered Fódlan into a new age of innovation and prosperity.
Claude, King of Unification & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune
Entrusting the future of Fódlan to his friends, Claude left for Almyra to reclaim his place as heir to the throne. When he became king, he asked Lysithea to be his queen with a heart full of love, and with the hope of fostering friendly diplomatic relations with Fódlan. Due to her shortened lifespan, Lysithea declined. Claude, unable to abandon his love for her, gave up the throne to go on a quest for a means to save her. Years later, he appeared suddenly before her, claiming to have found a cure. With her trust and love to guide him, he whisked her away, across the sea. It is unknown where they went.
Linhardt, Sleepy Crest Scholar & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune
Though Linhardt researched vigorously for a method by which to remove the Crests from Lysithea and save her life, the war ended before he could reach any conclusions. Lysithea, deciding that she should return home to her parents, thanked Linhardt and took her leave of Garreg Mach. Not to be deterred, Linhardt set his affairs in order, renounced his noble title, and followed Lysithea to Ordelia territory to continue his research. Years later, his efforts bore fruit, and Lysithea's Crests were successfully removed. With a new future ahead of her, Lysithea, too, renounced her noble claim, and the couple married as commoners. It is said they raised a very happy family.
Felix, Meandering Sword & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind, Crimson Flower)
After the war, Felix abandoned his noble title and chose to make a living with his sword. He traveled the land, seeking battle as if he had a death wish, but his violent path came to an end when he happened upon Lysithea, who had been living in a small house in the middle of nowhere with her parents. Seeing her—condemned to live a shortened life, but smiling and making the most of every day with her family—convinced Felix that life was precious. He gave up his sword to join her, and the two spent their lives baking sweets. Lysithea's recipe became known far and wide, and the treat became a tradition for the people of that region.
Felix, The Shield's Successor & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune (Azure Moon)
After becoming Duke Fraldarius, Felix married Lysithea, who assisted his efforts to restore both his territory and the Kingdom at large with countless insights. She became known for walking among the people, sharing with them her wisdom. After her death, Felix received a visit from a local artisan, who brought to him a cake and claimed that Lysithea had given him the recipe. Felix adored the flavor, enjoying that style of cake for the rest of his days. The people acquired a taste for it too, and Lysithea's treat became traditional in the north of Faerghus.
Lorenz, Noble of the Red Rose & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune
As the new head of House Gloucester, Lorenz first worked to restore his own territory, and then expanded his vision to include reforms for all Fódlan. At the height of his storied political career, he announced his marriage to Lysithea. Though the only daughter of the former Count Ordelia had already renounced all claim to nobility, the people happily accepted their union. She rarely appeared in public, due to health concerns, but it is said that a great many policies credited to Lorenz were actually her ideas.
Raphael, Beast of Leicester & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune
Raphael returned to his hometown to serve his liege lord as a knight, and spent his spare time helping out at the inn that his family had opened during his time away. Due to his grandfather's age, he was compelled before long to give up knighthood and manage the inn full-time. Soon after that, the inn began to be frequented by Lysithea and her family, who had renounced all claim to nobility and begun a life as commoners. Lysithea found a kindred spirit in Raphael's sister, Maya, and before long, found herself helping out around the place too. Eventually she was put in charge of the kitchen, where it is said she spent the rest of her days happily working.
Ignatz, Worldly Artist & Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune
Lysithea returned home to help her parents restore their family land. Years later, when the end to their hard work was finally in sight, she relinquished House Ordelia's claim to nobility, and the family retreated from the public eye. In her new life as a commoner, she had a chance reunion with Ignatz, who had persuaded his family to allow him to travel the world as an artist. Lysithea became enchanted by his determination, and by the landscapes and portraits he painted of all he had seen in his travels. She offered the remainder of her short life in support of his work. It is said that Ignatz's most famous piece, Portrait of a Goddess, used Lysithea's face as a reference.
Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune & Hanneman, Father of Crestology
After the war, Lysithea returned to her parents in Ordelia territory. She was joined by Hanneman, and together the two worked to research a method by which to extend her lifespan. Some years later, their efforts bore fruit, and they devised a procedure to remove her Crests. Afterward, Lysithea renounced her noble claim and continued to assist Hanneman with his research. When he passed, she took up his mantle, and by the great discoveries she made, came to be called the Golden Child of Crestology.
Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune & Cyril, Limitless Potential
Lysithea returned home to help her parents restore their family land. Years later, when their work was at an end, she journeyed to Garreg Mach to inform the church of her decision to relinquish House Ordelia's claim to nobility. There she encountered Cyril, who had since graduated from the Officers Academy and joined the Knights of Seiros. During their reunion, Cyril confessed his love to Lysithea and asked her to marry him. She declined, at first, due to her shortened lifespan, but in the face of Cyril's insistence, she chose to spend what days she had remaining together with him. Where they went is unknown, but it is said that, for however long it lasted, they were happy.
Lysithea, Scholar of Misfortune & Balthus, King of Grappling
Balthus accompanied Lysithea home to help her parents restore their family land, securing the aid of his younger brother, who happened to be lord of a nearby domain. Years later, when the end to their hard work was finally in sight, Lysithea relinquished House Ordelia's claim to nobility, ceding the territory to a nearby lord. Shortly thereafter, Balthus brought her and her family to Kupala, in Fódlan's Throat. There, they fell in love and lived peaceful, happy lives blending in with the mountain folk.
