Linoan (Japanese:リノアンLinoan) is the Duchess governing the Free City ofTarrah in theMunster District, a distant relative ofGrannvale's HouseBelhalla and a bearer of NagaHoly Blood. A friend and ally of the fugitive PrinceLeif ofLeonster, she governed Tarrah following her father's death, withstanding years of Grannvale oppression toward the city and assassination attempts against her culminating in a final bid to invade in Grann 776. She was long betrothed to PrinceArion ofThracia, who sentDeen to aid her and act as a bodyguard.[1]
Biography
Linoan was born as the daughter of the Duke of Tarrah. Growing up, she developed a close bond withSafy, her servant.[2] WhenPrince Leif arrived inTarrah to hide from theGrannvale Empire, the Duke accepted him into the city despite the dangers it would entail. Five years later, the Empire learned of Leif's presence in the city, forcing him to flee the city. Linoan's father was executed for sheltering Leif,[3] after which the Empire installed their own governor for the city.[4]
During the Empire's rule over Tarrah, Linoan was forbidden from leaving the ducal mansion she grew up in and frequently interrogated about Leif's whereabouts. After two years, she was saved byDeen's interference, who continued to protect her afterwards.[5] When the people of Tarrah rebelled against the Empire's rule in response to child hunts being enforced on the city, Linoan was installed as Duchess of Tarrah, taking on her late father's position.[6] As the Empire threatened to besiege Tarrah, Linoan sent out Safy as envoy to seek out reinforcements for the city.[7]
When Leif, leading a liberation army, returned to Tarrah during an attempted invasion of the city by theFriege army, Linoan was there to greet him and implored his assistance in repelling the siege.[8] Despite their best efforts in defending the city, Linoan was forced to accept a deal withArion, to whom she was betrothed, to surrender Tarrah toThracia in order to protect it from Grannvale and theBergrosen.[9] Afterwards, she fled the city along with Leif's army and her citizens, having chosen to fight alongside Leif and help overthrow the Empire.[10]
Months later, during Leif's siege on Fort Danzig, Linoan came across a man who knew her parents growing up.[11] He revealed to her that she was a descendant ofSaint Heim, and as a result hadHoly Blood ofNaga in her veins. Following this revelation, he awakened the dormant holy blood within her, causing her to become significantly stronger.[12]
OnceMunster was seized, Leif asked Linoan to continue staying with the Liberation Army, to which she agreed.[13] She also convinced Deen to stay with them, unwilling to retake Tarrah without him.[14]
After the war, Linoan returned to Tarrah and helped rebuild it. She ruled over the city as its duchess, supporting Leif's reign and bringing an unprecedented era of prosperity to Tarrah. She never married.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Linoan joins during the mid-game, under-leveled with low bases but good growths. She also joins with a notable C-rank in staves, perfect for the plethora of useful staves in her inventory. Due to the power of staves inThracia 776, Linoan's staff level is highly valued. The most important stat—besides magic—that Linoan needs to raise is her skill, as staves can miss inThracia 776. Fortunately, skill is her best growth, and theOd Scroll can help to get her skill to 10 faster.
Her B-rank inlight magic lets her useNosferatu at base (one of two only available types of light magic tomes), with the only other units who can immediately use the tome without significant weapon experience grinding beingSaias,Ced, andHomer, the former two only being available late and the latter requiring a promotion. Nosferatu combined with Wrath is very important for taking care of enemy Hel mages, who are otherwise incredibly dangerous to face. However, she starts with an E-rank in all three types ofAnima magic; her E-rank inWind magic in particular notably prevents her from using any Wind magic until promotion, due to the lowest ranked andlightest tome,Wind, requiring a D-rank.
Linoan cannot promote with a Knight Proof, and instead needs to promote at the church inChapter 21. While she does not need to reach level 10 to promote, if she reaches B-rank in staves before promotion, she will be granted an A-rank upon promotion. However, even with a B-rank (which is automatic with her base C-rank) she will be able toSilence dangerous enemy staff users during the late-game. Because of the promotion bonuses she gets, along withAdept, immediate access to Nosferatu, and her amazing FCM of 5, Linoan can serve as a good combat unit as well, even before promoting. She has poor durability and cannot safely engage with multiple enemies at 1-range, but because of the low quality of most enemies inThracia 776, she can one-round a good number of enemies upon promotion.

Personality
Linoan is devoted to the people of Tarrah and views their well-being as paramount, above even her own life, and thus regrets any action which leaves her safe while they remain in peril.[10] Following her father's death, she lost the family manse and was subject to two years of abusive treatment from a Grannvale administrator who restricted her movements and regularly demanded information on Leif's whereabouts from her. Deen's support, both moral and defensive, helped her maintain her composure throughout this time.[1]

The sellswords proved craven and fled, and now only a handful of militiamen stand between the Empire and our city. You must listen to me: tell your people to lay down their arms and surrender. Immediately. If you keep fighting like this, Tarrah will never recover from this battle. Its fate will be sealed.
Linoan: Why...? Why would I do such a thing?! This isn't something I'd ever imagined hearing from you... Just what in blazes has happened?
Arion: My lord father is planning to seize Tarrah for himself. He's prepared a massive army to take the city from the Empire once their forces are exhausted.
Linoan: No...!
Arion: It gets worse. Sorcerers of the Loptian Order are headed here even as we speak. And not just any sorcerers - they've sent the Welkenrosen, the withered roses of Loptous himself. When they arrive here, they'll slaughter every single man, woman, and child in Tarrah. It will be genocide.
Linoan: The Welkenrosen... This was my greatest fear...
Arion: Linoan, you must trust me. Allow Thracia to occupy Tarrah. We can place the city's people under our protection, and I'll see to it they're treated well. The Empire won't be able to harm them. Being under Thracian rule also means the city won't be forced to participate in child hunts - and isn't that what you wanted all along?

Linoan: I have... the blood of Saint Heim...?
Bishop: You mean to say you never realized you bore the power of Naga herself...? Follow me. I can awaken the holy blood that lay dormant in your veins." — A bishop and Linoan inChapter 21,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"Linoan: Lord Leif...
Leif: Linoan! Ah... I imagine this must be very bittersweet for you... North Thracia has returned to our rightful hands, but Tarrah remains in Thracia's clutches. You know I'll stop at nothing to recapture the city, so won't you travel with me for a while longer?

Linoan: How can that be, Deen? Why can't you?!
Deen: Thracia is my motherland. North and South shall soon face each other in battle, and I cannot fight against my home. You should stay with the prince, Linoan. He'll protect you from now on.
Linoan: Deen... How can you say such a thing...? I... I couldn't bear to go on without you.
Deen: Linoan...?
Linoan: I will abandon my plans to retake Tarrah if it means you would stay, Deen. So please, remain at my side...
Deen: Don't say something so stupid, Linoan! This isn't like you at all! Ah, dammit...
