Ling (Japanese:リングRing) was the Duke ofGrannvale's HouseYngvi in the era preceding theBattle of Belhalla, afull-blooded descendant of theCrusaderUllr and heir to theYewfelle, and the father ofBrigid,Edain, andAndrey.
Biography
Along with his friend DukeByron ofChalphy, Ling acted as an advisor and confidante to Grannvale's PrinceKurth, and for this reason drew the ire ofReptor ofFriege andLombard ofDozel, who viewed him, Byron and Kurth as threats to their power in the Grannvale court.[1] Ling was both pious and wealthy, and so before Grann 747 he and his three children made a pilgrimage by sea to theTower of Bragi. Their ship was caught in a storm, causing them to evacuate it, but during the evacuation Brigid disappeared and, despite his best efforts, he failed to find her.[2]
At the onset of the war withIsaach in Grann 757, Ling departed for the war's front lines withAndrey at his side, despite their differences;[3] he left the Yewfelle behind with Edain on her request, in case she found Brigid.[4] As part of Reptor and Lombard's conspiracy against Byron, Ling was also framed as an accomplice to Byron's alleged murder of Kurth.[5] In a bid to prove his loyalty to Reptor's faction, Andrey killed Ling and succeeded him as Duke of Yngvi, an act which disgusted even Lombard.[6]
