Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Linde is a mage that joins at level 1 inChapter 11. She has passable base stats and high growth rates, with HP to improve her durability (which is pretty low at base level) and speed for doubling standing out. Due to the way magic works in FE1, her damage output per hit is the same as any other mage or bishop when wielding the same tome. As such, she can work fine if the player is looking for another mage/ranged unit to use. At base, she can double most of the unpromoted enemies around that part of the game using the lighter generic tomes that are available to her, such asFire andThunder, at reliable accuracy. Her starting weapon level is also high enough to wieldThoron, a very strong and accurate tome that is acquired inChapter 14 from the village andChapter 17 from theSecret Shop. She comes with a personal tome,Aura, which deals 20 damage on the majority of enemy units at 90% accuracy (which she can't improve since skill does not affect tome accuracy in this game) while granting her at least 20 EXP per use, provided that the attack connects. It has the downside of being heavy, which makes it difficult for her to double with it unless the player invests aSpeed Ring.Bishop's Rings also have poor availability in this game, with the first one being acquired as late asChapter 19, which means that she might miss access to the class's ability to use staves and its defense boost for the entire game depending on player preference.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Linde is noticably stronger here than in her original incarnation. Due to the abridged pace of Book 1, her somewhat weak base stats aren't as much of a downside. Her high speed allows her to consistently double enemies, only needing minor investment to double with Aura. Her role as a mage is much more useful here than previously, as she is one of the only unit types to have access to 1-2 Range weaponry on indoor maps. This allows her additional flexibility on Player Phase. What's more is the additional of magic being a boostable skill via Strength. She has a low base of 1 and only a growth of 20, but her low base level and the ability to use thePower Ring means she can grow this stat. This allows her already powerful Aura tome to become even more impressive, potentially one shotting some weaker enemies with enough investment, and if she is able to double, almost surely one rounding. Although she is frail and requires some investment from the player, her incredibly strong offensive power makes her a strong unit for any playthrough of Book 1.

Book 2

Role

Linde appears as a playable character in Book 2, joining after completion ofChapter 2, having been captured by rebel forces. She was entrusted theFire Emblem byNyna and gives it to Marth at Nyna's request, then joins his army for the remainder of the game.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Linde is the first mage to join the player's party in Book 2, joining after finishingChapter 2. She is a very effective offensive unit capable of easily one-round-KOing most enemies with moderate amounts of investment that gets useful staff utility when promoted with theBishop's Ring, an item which can be obtained as early asChapter 5 via its secret shop. Two of the main factors that make Linde an effective mage are the tomes she comes with:Aura andNosferatu. Her highspeed growth is key in allowing Linde to double with these tomes considering that they are relatively heavy, though enemies are generally very slow, which makes the benchmarks easy to reach. At base she has anattack speed of 2 with Aura, which means that she is only one point ofspeed away from doubling enemies with 0 AS (which is one of the most important AS benchmarks in the game), using its massive 20might to double bulky enemies such as the promotedGenerals inChapter 8, ORKOing them, anddragons such as theWyverns andFire andIce Dragons that are prominent in Chapters11 to14. Additionally, she also has access to tomes such asCutting Gale,Blizzard andElfire (the latter two can be bought in theChapter 9 vendor) that act as effective weaponry against the aforementioned dragons; Elfire in particular has an effective might of 27 against Ice Dragons, which is enough to ORKO them outright.

Nosferatu is another interesting option for Linde since it is able to deal damage to the enemies while healing off the damage she takes from them, making up for her paltry durability. Nosferatu is one of the stronger tomes in the game in terms of might, but has aweight of 10, which imposes much higher speed benchmarks compared to Aura, and limits her maximum AS to 10 while wielding it. She needs to raise her speed by 5 points before being able to double the slowest of enemies with it, inhibiting its usefulness in the early stages of the game. However, later in the game and with consistent use, Linde should have enough speed to double many enemy types with it, such as thePaladins,Horsemen, andGenerals which are featured in chapters15,18, and19. Nosferatu is a very safe way to deal with large enemy groups in the late game, and she can use it with infinite durability while wielding theStarsphere. This strategy is at its most effective when Linde can actually ORKO her targets, however, and Linde will struggle to ORKO the 6-resistance Paladins due to her 2 base strength and 20% growth; it is advisable to give herAstral Shards that boost her strength (Leo, Gemini, Scorpio) or thePower Ring found inChapter 11 if the player wishes to make heavy use of Nosferatu. Another good aspect of Linde is her goodweapon level—9 base and 70% growth—which, when combined with her ability to getexperience via her good combat, makes her likely to be the first magic unit to reach the required 20 weapon level to use the powerfulAnew staff. Since her strength is not the best, she may rely on her Aura tome; fortunately, theHammerne is obtained very early inChapter 5 which gives the player the option to repair Aura, allowing Linde to spam it more liberally.

Linde promotes using aBishop's Ring, a very scarce item. Outside of the Chapter 5secret shop, the first comes in Chapter 9, the second comes late in chapter 14, and the third in chapter 20 – the last chapter before the four-part Endgame. Her main competition is fromMerric andArlen, both of whom join ready to promote, unlike Linde who will need 6 levels. Compared to them, Linde has Aura and Nosferatu, as well as better skill, speed, luck, and weapon level. However, she has worse strength, HP, and defense, and Merric also hasExcalibur.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Linde joins as a level 1Mage in Chapter 11 ofShadow Dragon. She is very underleveled and requires nine levels to reach promotion. Her base stats are low, except for passable speed and resistance stats, but she has good growths to compensate. Her speed is too low for harder difficulties, though, and she will be doubled and one-rounded by most enemies.

Linde is uniquely able to useAura, a B-rank tome restricted to women, with only an E-rank; due to a lack of other female units with tomes in their base class, this is a pipe dream for every other woman in the game without heavy investment to meet the WEXP requirement. Aura has 18might and 25 uses, allowing Linde to deal over 20 magic damage with a single attack at base level; it will not one-shot most enemies from full health, but it is a reliable source of damage that can usually secure 2HKOs. Due to the aforementioned lack of alternative Aura users, Linde faces almost zero competition for the tome, allowing her to contribute without hurting other units. Linde's niche as a strong magic unit is not unique, asMerric andWendell join earlier and both have access toExcalibur, but it is rare and useful.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Great availability, one of the higher personalspeed growths in the game, and instant access to theAura andNosferatu tomes make Linde a good option for an offensive magic unit inNew Mystery of the Emblem, having good uses both short-term and long-term. Enemies deal significant damage in Maniac and Lunatic, encouraging ranged attacks; with Aura, Linde can deal over 20 damage at 2-range, helping minimize damage received by herself and her allies while allowing her more opportunities to finish enemies forexperience. Her offensive capabilities also get a huge boost if she reaches the speed benchmarks to double attack, allowing her to help out against enemies such asIce Dragons, which she can 2HKO pretty consistently with Aura even on Lunatic Mode. Later in the game, she can reclass into aSwordmaster when required to get a speed cap of 30 (compared to the cap of 25 that theSage class has) while maintaining access to ranged magic damage usingLevin Swords, all while having 8movement. Aside from Swordmaster, Linde can also make use of theBishop andCleric classes; Bishop grants Linde a higherstaff rank at the cost of 2 points of magic from Sage, allowing earlier access toPhysic and other utility staves, while Cleric allows Linde to build staff rank before promotion in certain maps where her chip damage as aMage can be safely traded for that goal. Nosferatu, as previously mentioned, is one of her main niches; it is very useful in breaking enemy formations provided that she has a sufficient combination of magic, HP and speed.

Linde is not without some jarring weaknesses, however. She has extremely low basedefense, and the Mage class renders it to a measly 5% growth. To compound this, her below-averageHP limits her to being a glass canon. In Lunatic, enemies wield silver weapons fromChapter 1, which allows them to OHKO her at base; in Maniac she can survive an attack from most enemies due to them wielding steel weapons instead. While the +6 HP bonus that she gets when promoting into a Sage is helpful, she basically demands anAngelic Robe to perform well in the higher difficulty modes since enemies wield forged silver weapons later on anyways. Her magic is also a bit shaky, with a relatively low base of 4 and fairly average personal growth of 10% (for a total of 40% growth as a Mage and 30% as a Sage or Bishop). This weakness can be mitigated with magic-boostingAstral Shards (Capricorn, Gemini, Aquarius) that can grant a combined total bonus of +4 in magic while they are available. Additionally, the player may gain up to 3Spirit Dusts during the game, which may be best used on a single magic unit instead of distributed among many magic users. Since Swordmaster lowers magic by 4 when reclassing from Sage, these Spirit Dusts are good for making the "Levin Master" build a strong option, and she's capable at the role if being used as the player's main offensive magic unit thanks to her speed. When taking the expanded base shop from clearing Lunatic Mode into account, access to early stat boosters in the base shop can be very convenient for her, since it allows the player to give her an early Angelic Robe or Spirit Dust if the player is willing to make the investment.
