Sometimes, I've got to dance for foul, leering men! I hate it, but it's part of the work. I have to just deal with it. We've all gotta do what we gotta do to get by in life.
— Lene

Lene (Japanese:リーンLeen) is a dancer, the daughter of fellow dancerSilvia, and the elder sister ofCoirpre. She and Coirpre were left at a convent inDahna when she was just two years old[2] by Silvia, in the aftermath of theBattle of Belhalla, and Lene became a dancer in order to help her find her missing mother. In Grann 777, she befriended the mercenaryAres while in Dahna, and later accompanied him in joiningSeliph's liberation army.

If Silvia was not married in the course of the first generation, Lene's role is filled byLaylea.

Biography

While inDahna withAres, Lene had to contend with the lecherous behavior of the city's ruler, CountBramsel, and with Ares's support Bramsel backed down from trying to solicit her. However, after Ares left withJavarro to fight Seliph's army at Melgen, Bramsel attempted to approach her again, and Lene's resistance to his actions led to her imprisonment in the Dahna dungeons. Following Seliph's capture of Dahna, she was freed from imprisonment by one of his soldiers, and upon meeting Ares – now with Seliph's army – she joined him in the army, wishing to stay close to him in future.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Lene is a level 3Dancer who joins in Chapter 7 ofGenealogy of the Holy War, the second chapter of its second generation. As Lene has low strength, defense and HP; is limited to C-level swords unlessChulainn is her father: can not getFollow-Up without inheritance or the ring; and has no promotion, she is poor at combat. Lene will always inheritAdept andMiracle fromSilvia, however, Lene's attacks do little damage, so additional ones are unhelpful, and Miracle activating requires that she be in danger.

Lene offers unique utility in her ability todance; she can refresh up to four adjacent units, allowing them to move again. This can allow units to get closer to an objective, to attack an enemy again or attack a different enemy, to heal more allies, and to use staves likeRescue again. Lene's ability to dance does not change with her inherited stats and skills, though it can be indirectly affected by her inherited items. TheKnight Ring grants its userCanto, letting Lene move again after dancing. TheLeg Ring increases a unit's movement by 3; with it, Lene can better keep up with high-move mounted units and dance for them without slowing them down. With both the Leg and Knight Rings, Lene has the mobility of a mounted unit, and can easily keep pace with and dance for the player's main combat units. The Knight Ring is a fairly competitive item, but Lene is the strongest user of it throughout the game. The Leg Ring is more competitive, and every unit benefits from having three more movement. While Lene is a strong competitor for it, she is competing withSeliph; with the Leg Ring, Seliph can clearChapter 6 much faster than he could without, and as the only person who can seize his movement will always dictate how fast a chapter can be cleared. Giving it to Seliph first requires that Lene purchase the Leg Ring after him, requiring 20,000gold that she struggles to make in the arena.

Lene does not change significantly based on her father, the only relevant factors are her resistance to avoid being put tosleep, and in a ranked context whether she inherits Vantage to pair with the Sleep Sword to win in the Arena. As such, her parentage is better selected based on the needs of her brother,Coirpre, however, Coirpre does not change much based on his father, either. He is helped most significantly byClaud, as he gains major Bragi blood and can inherit staves, and Silvia also benefits from Claud's high resistance. InChapter 4, Silvia has an event with Claud that grantslove points between the two; Silvia also has an event withAlec inChapter 2 that grants the pair love points, and an event in Chapter 4 withErinys that boosts Lewyn and Silvia's love points and Lewyn and Erinys's love points. Silvia has the highest base love points with Lewyn and Claud, but the lowest point growths with them as well. Lewyn and Claud have better options than Coirpre, though Alec is not in particularly high demand.

If Silvia is dead or unmarried by the end ofChapter 5, Lene's substituteLaylea will be recruited instead. Laylea is a dancer like Lene, and has the same function. However, Laylea has different skills; she does not have Adept or Miracle, but does haveCharm, increasing thehit rate and avoid of all allies within three tiles. Laylea cannot inherit any skills, Holy Blood, or items, however; no father can pass Charm to Lene, but Lene can inherit the Leg and Knight rings—Laylea must instead purchase them from the pawn shop for 20,000 gold and 40,000 gold respectively, or 60,000 gold total. WhileBargain will halve the price of both items, Laylea can only obtain Bargain through theBargain Band, itself costing 40,000 gold, making the total cost 70,000 gold; Lene can potentially inherit both items, but can inherit Bargain or the Bargain Band if she needs to purchase on of them, and can inherit gold on top of that, making it significantly easier to get Lene both items.

One last warning. If Lene has 9 or less speed, do not allow her to attack with aBroken Sword. Her AS will be below −20, which will cause the game to freeze due toAdept's activation rate becoming negative.

Lene: Yearning Dancer
Lene is a dancer who once entertained people in the city of Dahna, on the continent of Jugdral. She's energetic, entirely self-taught, and dreams of reuniting with her long-lost mother, who was said to also be a dancer.Having become popular in Dahna, Lene later encountered the mercenary Ares while he was stationed in the city. The two hit it off and quickly became close. One day, the lord of Dahna took Lene captive, seeking to make her his own. She was completely at his mercy, but fortunately, Ares cut ties with the mercenaries to come to her rescue! After Lene was freed, she and Ares joined Seliph's army in their struggle against the Grannvale Empire. I hear her lively dancing did much to reinvigorate her comrades on the battlefield!

Get ready for a spectacle like no other! Dorothea, formerly a songstress, and Lene, the fabulous dancer, have arrived to put on a show to remember! They're both wearing eye-catching outfits in the Plegian style that are just perfect for the occasion. Dorothea's outfit uses darker colors to express her mature side, while Lene's outfit complements Dorothea's by using lighter colors to highlight her youthful charm.Meanwhile, the candelabrum they have with them is aglow with dark flames, adding a mysterious ambiance to the proceedings.Dorothea and Lene sparkle like stars in the night sky over the Plegian desert. I sure hope that I can manage to get a seat at their show, because I know it's going to be packed!
