Leif Faris Claus (pronounced /lif/[key][2]; Japanese:リーフ・ファリス・クラウスLeaf Faris Claus) is the prince ofLeonster, the son of the late PrinceQuan andEthlyn, and the younger brother ofAltena. Left behind in Leonster as an infant while his parents travelled toGrannvale to aid his uncleSigurd, he was forced into exile followinghis parents' deaths and the fall of Leonster at the hands ofConnacht, taken away byFinn of the Leonster knights. He was raised in hiding in the town ofFiana by Finn and, for a while,Lachesis, along with Lachesis's own daughterNanna, and eventually joined theFiana Freeblades led byEyvel, protecting the village from bandits.
In the year 776, prompted by the kidnapping of Nanna andMareeta, Eyvel's adopted daughter, Leif left Fiana to rally a resistance army to the Thracian occupation of theMunster District under the command ofRaydrik, the duke ofMunster, ultimately liberating it from the control ofVeld of theLoptr Church. After his victories in theMunster District, he joined with the liberation army of his cousin,Seliph ofChalphy, to assist in freeing all ofJugdral from the iron grip of theGrannvale Empire, and went on to unify the Thracian Peninsula into the New Kingdom of Thracia with himself as its first king.
Leif is a playable character in the second generation ofFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, and later graduated to become the main protagonist ofFire Emblem: Thracia 776.
Biography
Note: This biography adheres to the canon defined byThracia 776, which dictates that Leif marriedNanna and she isLachesis's daughter, and all references to his marriage with Nanna are in accordance with this. In the gameplay ofGenealogy of the Holy War, although the game's events still encourage Lachesis becoming married and Leif to bepaired with Nanna, Lachesis's possible marriage and Leif's choice of wife remain entirely at the player's discretion, since if Lachesis died or did not marry in the course of the first generation, Nanna's role is filled byJeanne and none of the events with Nanna would happen in those cases.
Early life

Leif was born in the Leonster capital in the year Grann 760, after Quan and Ethlyn had returned home from aiding his uncleSigurd. As an infant he quickly grew particularly attached toFinn, one of Quan's knights, who was frequently assigned the task of protecting and caring for Leif. When his parents departed Leonster to lead theLanceritter in reinforcing Sigurd in his struggles withGrannvale, Leif was left behind in Finn's protection, and some months later he was introduced toNanna, the daughter ofLachesis, for company around his own age.[3] A year after Quan and Ethlyn died in theAed Massacre, in Grann 761, Leonster was invaded by the Thracian army along with the rest of the Munster District, following a disastrous battle at the River Thracia in which Leif's grandfather, KingCalf, was killed. As Thracia's forces besieged the Leonster royal palace, Finn, Leif, Lachesis and Nanna all fled the capital as it burned.
Afterward, Leif grew up as a fugitive from both Thracia and the Grannvale Empire, constantly in hiding and being moved from place to place by Finn to avoid capture by the Empire as it seized power in the Munster District. His first hiding place wasUlster, where he stayed from 762-765 under the protection of its queen, eventually being forced to flee when an assassination plot against the imperial governor, KingBloom, surfaced in the city. Next came the free city Hrest, where he met and befriendAsbel, and the two together swore to someday fight together to reclaim all of Thracia.[4]. He lived in the care of its bishop from 766-768, but this came to an end once his whereabouts were leaked by certain denizens of the city. He, Finn, Nanna and Lachesis avoided being caught in an Imperial siege of the city, with their safe escape ensured by the bishop buying them time by surrendering himself to execution.[5]
On the bishop's advice, Finn next took Leif toTarrah, entering the protection of its duke for five years from 769-773. During their time in Tarrah, Lachesis departed from the group to find her estranged sonDiarmuid, leaving Nanna with Finn and Leif. Toward the end, the Empire again learned of Leif's whereabouts and engaged Tarrah in a siege. Believing his life to be in certain peril, Leif fled Tarrah with Nanna and Finn, leaving Asbel behind.[4]
Fiana and a quest's beginning

After fleeing Tarrah, the three entered Thracian territory, and at some point Finn sustained a grievous wound.[6] They eventually arrived at the small village ofFiana, with Finn still wounded,[6] and Leif tried to convince its leaderEyvel to help Finn by offering to give her theLight Brand he inherited from Ethlyn.[7] Eyvel took the three in without demanding a thing, and even took to taking care of Leif and Nanna as if they were her children.[8] Leif would later reflect that his years living in Fiana were peaceful: he grew up surrounded with new friends likeOsian,Halvan andMareeta, under Eyvel's mother-like care, and he and Finn even eventually took to assisting the work of Eyvel's mercenary band, theFiana Freeblades.[9] Neither Eyvel nor anybody else in Fiana would become aware of Leif's royal identity for a long time.[10]
After three years, Leif's peaceful time in Fiana came to an end in Grann 776. His identity and whereabouts were discovered and leaked to the Empire by the bandit chiefLifis.[11] While Leif, Finn, and the Freeblades were away on a mission, Fiana was invaded and conquered by BaronRaydrik of Munster, who abducted Nanna and Mareeta. Leif returned to find Fiana still occupied by Munster soldiers, and after driving the soldiers out he discovered what happened to Nanna and Mareeta, and resolved to storm Munster and rescue them. Eyvel and Finn resolved to assist him in this cause.
Leif set out on a northward journey to Munster, traveling along the Thracian coast through the village of Iz and freeing it from Lifis's bandits, until he arrived at Fort Kelbeth outside the city. On his way, he met the bishopAugust, who traveled with him for a time, and although they parted ways before Kelbeth, August revealed his knowledge of Leif's true identity and affirmed his intent to help restore Leif to the Leonster throne. Leif and the Freeblades successfully captured Kelbeth and freed theabducted children within it, but soon after, they were ambushed by Raydrik. He was arrested by Raydrik and taken back to Munster, along with Eyvel and Lifis, while Finn and the rest of the Freeblades evaded capture.
Leif was imprisoned in a dungeon in the bowels of the Munster palace, separated from Eyvel and awaiting transfer toConnacht. With the assistance of members of theMagi, tasked byCed with releasing and accompanying Leif, he escaped the dungeon and emerged into the castle's main halls. He and the Magi fought their way into the castle's main halls to free Eyvel and Nanna, only to find that Eyvel had beenpetrified by the bishopVeld's dark magic and that Raydrik had used acursed sword to control Mareeta. He, Nanna, and the Magi escaped the castle and rejoined with August, then, swearing to return someday and free Eyvel, the band carefully evaded the Munster soldiers in the city's main streets and escaped the city grounds.
Tarrah and Leonster
Even after having escaped the city, Raydrik's minions were still in hot pursuit of Leif. At August's advice and despite his own intense dislike of the idea, Leif opted to seek refuge at Meath Castle inThracia and briefly enter the protection fromHannibal. Once he arrived, he told Hannibal a false story of his arrest to obscure his own identity and his intent to travel to Tarrah, and Hannibal granted him an escort,Carrion, to take Leif's group to Hannibal's western mansion. Hannibal also released Leif's allies, who had been arrested by his subordinates earlier, and Finn rejoined Leif shortly beforehand.
Leif's journey west took him through Thracia's mountains, where he faced menaces from both bandits formerly loyal toDagdar and from Thracian soldiers who mistook his band for bandits themselves. On their way, Carrion revealed to Leif that Hannibal was aware of his true identity and wished to entrust him with a group of refugee Leonster knights, Carrion himself included, being trained at Hannibal's mansion by the former Leonster nobleDryas. Upon arriving, Dryas advised Leif that they needed to make haste to Tarrah to save it from an imminent defeat, and committed his student knights to Leif's cause and joined August as a tactician for Leif.
Commanding a small army made up of Leonster knights, the Freeblades and the Magi, Leif set out for Tarrah. Traveling through Nowell Valley and the Fort Dandrum, he achieved his first victories against the Empire's forces, then entered the Dacia forest and encountered the Dandelion thieves, among themSafy's sisterTina, and the former LoptrianSalem, and was reunited with Mareeta, who had been freed bySaias. Immediately beyond Dacia was Tarrah itself, barely withstanding the Empire's siege through the efforts of a small group of Leonster survivors underGlade, and a pair of warriors from Thracia. On arriving, Leif pledged to the city's rulerLinoan that he would ensure the city wouldn't fall to the Empire. Despite his best efforts, however, he couldn't maintain the defenses in the face of an onslaught from the Loptrian warlocks, theBergrosen, andArion struck a deal with Linoan to fake a Thracian conquest of Tarrah to protect the city from the Empire.
As part of the deal, Leif and his army were required to flee the city to prevent Arion's father,Travant, from finding him. He departed with both Linoan and a small number of Tarrah refugees in tow, and on ensuring their safety, Leif was left to confront his next mission: retaking Leonster itself. Leif had two routes to choose from to take to Leonster: the open northern high-road, to assault the castle's defenses head-on, or an eastern route through thick mountains and forests to enter Leonster from its less-defended southern border. His march culminated in the successful defeat of the castle's Imperial occupation, restoring Leonster to Leif's control after fourteen years.
However, Leif had no time to rest on reclaiming his home, as he received news of an Imperial massacre inUlster, the Imperial KingBloom's current headquarters. Despite August's protestations, Leif demanded to lead Leonster's army to help Ulster's suffering people. Dryas departed first with half of Leonster's army, instructing Leif to follow with the rest a day later. Before Leif could depart, however, he received word that the first Ulster raid had failed, obliterated by the Empire striking from behind, that Dryas had fallen, and that an Imperial siege of Leonster was inevitable. Overcome by shock at how his actions had killed Dryas, Leif, Finn and Nanna were forced to maintain Leonster's defenses against the siege for six months, slowly but surely losing territory to the Empire.
The Munster victory

Finally, after six long months, the siege of Leonster came to an end with the arrival ofSeliph. Leif's cousin, already famous for his victories against the Empire inIsaach and theAed Desert, engaged the Imperial forces at Ulster and forced the forces besieging Leonster to retreat and reinforce their capital. Seliph sentDiarmuid, Nanna's brother, as a messenger to Leif, and Leif hastened to Ulster to help speed up Seliph's battle there. By the time Leif and his forces arrived, however, Ulster had fallen and Bloom had retreated to Connacht. At Ulster, Leif met Seliph for the first time, and conferred with Seliph andJulia on their next moves. They decided there to split up again: Seliph would attack Bloom at Connacht, while Leif would attack Raydrik at Munster.
Leif's route south to Munster took him through the detention center of Fort Danzich and across the Great River of Thracia, and by the time he arrived at Munster itself, the city was embroiled in a final struggle between Raydrik's forces and the Magi, and as he reached its gates, Ced wrested control of the city from a dark bishop. Leif was approached by Saias during the battle and entrusted with theBragi Sword to use against Raydrik, and on meeting with Ced himself, the hero gave Leif some critical words of encouragement and joined forces with Leif to defeat Raydrik. Using the Bragi Sword, Leif's army defeated Raydrik, only for his body to vanish before them.
With most of the palace secured, August revealed to Leif the presence of a secretLoptrian temple deep beneath the castle, whereVeld—the mastermind behind Raydrik—lurked. Leif led his army to the temple, where he found Eyvel and freed her withSara's help, then confronted the final task of defeating Veld. Splitting his army up into six teams to attack six seals, each guarded by aDeadlord, his army unlocked the shrine room where Veld awaited, then successfully defeated Veld and thus brought an end to the Loptrians' grip on the Thracian peninsula. Seliph soon arrived to congratulate Leif for his victory, having come to help the battle only to find it already over, and the two swore to work together to liberate the rest of Jugdral.
Travels with Seliph
With Seliph, Leif's next step after freeing the Munster District was taking on Thracia itself. Thracia's King Travant remained an ally with the Empire and refused to surrender, necessitating an invasion of Thracia to put an end to the threat. During the early stages of the battle, Leif caught sight of a lone female wyvern rider sadly observing the battle from Thracia's peaks, and on discussing this with Finn, he learned the wyvern rider's identity:Altena, long presumed dead and wielding theGáe Bolg in the service of Travant, her adoptive father. During the next stage of the battle Leif tried to convince Altena of her true parentage, and while she was reluctant to believe him, she quickly realized he was telling the truth. Altena then returned to Castle Thracia to confront Travant about this revelation, and soon after Travant's demise joined with Seliph's army.
Leif continued to fight for Seliph's cause for the remainder of the war after Seliph's conquest of Thracia. He participated in the battles inMiletos and in the final showdown against the forces of the Grannvale Empire and its dark prince, Julius, in the capitalBelhalla.
After Belhalla
Soon after Seliph's victory at Belhalla, Leif departed with Nanna to assistAres, Nanna's cousin, in liberatingAgustria.[12] Leif later married Nanna and founded the New Kingdom of Thracia, uniting both halves of the peninsula, and ruled as its first king. Working with Nanna and Altena, he dedicated the rest of his life to building a lasting peace and prosperity for all of Thracia.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Leif joins as a level 1Prince in Chapter 7; he hasAdept andCritical, two powerful offensive skills, but lacksFollow-Up. Leif also lacks a mount, and will fall behind the higher-move mounted units inGenealogy of the Holy War's large maps. His base stats start off as weak initially, but his strong growth rates compensates for this: Leif has minorBaldr andNjörun Holy Blood, which offer a considerable boost to his growth rates. Leif has many levels to grow and make use of his high growth rates; he also has several conversations that increase his stats. UnlikeLachesis, the only other unit who can become aMaster Knight, Leif cannot usestaves at base as an alternative source of experience, but he does have the benefit ofinheritance, which allows him to already possess the tools he needs to reach his promotion faster.
As a child unit, Leif will inherit stats, skills, and items from his parents:Quan andEthlyn; since they are a preset pairing, the player cannot influence Leif's skills, but they can influence Leif's inventory. As Quan and Ethlyn leave Sigurd's army afterChapter 3, any items Leif inherits will be unavailable for Chapters4,5, and6. Leif has reversed inheritance from most other child units, inheriting items from his mother, not his father. Ethlyn is not as strong a combat unit as Quan and does not perform as well in thearena—as such, she generally has lessgold, and will rely on getting items directly or getting the gold to purchase them from Quan orvillages.
One of the best items Leif can inherit is theParagon Ring, which allows him to level up much faster and reach his promotion sooner. As the Paragon Ring is an item in particularly high demand, it may be inherited by another unit; in such case, theBargain Ring is another strong item for Leif to inherit, as it allows him to purchase the Paragon Ring at a reduced price while allowing another unit to make use of it, though a number of units may also want the Bargain Ring for the same purpose. His main competition for these items are Seliph and Arthur with Lewyn as a father, as no other units gain as much from a promotion. Furthermore, many of the enemies attacking Leif in Chapter 7 areArmored Swords, so anArmorslayer may be particularly useful.
Without the right effort or inheritance, Leif will be unpromoted until late in the game; however, with optimal inheritance, he can promote as early as the end of Chapter 7. Leif's promotion to Master Knight is incredibly important; Master Knight has massive class bases, providing huge promo gains, as well as excellent weapon ranks but most importantly, it grants Follow-Up as a class skill.
When promoted, Leif will have 9 movement, tied for the highest in the game with other promoted mounted units. Canto grants Leif additional flexibility with his movement; additionally, it allows him to equip a different item after attacking, so he can attack an enemy with abow to avoid a counterattack then switch to a melee weapon. Leif is also an excellent staff user; not only is he mounted, but he has an A-rank in staves, allowing him to use every staff butValkyrie. As a mounted unit, Leif can use theRescue staff particularly effectively by movingLene orLaylea to his position, where they can dance for the player's front-line units, letting them advance faster; if Leif is one of the units refreshed, he can do so repeatedly. A-staves also allows him to be an excellent healer by usingRecover to ignore his bad Magic and provide full heals. Furthermore, Leif is one of the better users ofTornado; despite his low Magic, the sheer might of the tome and general lack of high Resistance among the enemy roster allows Leif to enemy-phase with 1-2 range effectively, especially as he has Adept and Critical to patch up damage issues; he has virtually no competition for the book as all other users must be children ofLewyn; of them, onlyTine will ever seriously consider using it asCed,Arthur andCoirpre would all haveForseti access.
One last warning. If Leif has 9 or less speed, do not allow him to attack with aBroken Sword. His AS will be below −20, which will cause the game to freeze due toAdept's activation rate becoming negative.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Leif is the main character ofThracia 776, available from the start of the game. His base stats are generally low—particularly, his base constitution of 5 means he will be weighed down by every sword in the game except theSlim Sword and theRapier, and hispersonalLight Brand will reduce hisattack speed at base to 0. Furthermore, his low strength renders him unable to deal meaningful damage to the armored enemies in the early game without using an effective weapon or the Light Brand at range. Leif's growth rates are also unimpressive, and he has a late promotion (at the end ofChapter 18) that only provides relatively meager boosts to his stats.
Fortunately, Leif possesses many non-statistical strengths. He is the only unit besidesLifis who stays during the transition between Chapters3 and4, and the only unit that does not sufferfatigue. This makes him a strong candidate for theLife,Shield, andSpeed Rings obtained in the chapters before, with onlyAsbel potentially having a stronger case for the former two. The Light Brand, Leif's personal weapon, deals magic damage when used as an indirect attack, acting like aLightning tome. While Leif's base magic stat is low, the high might of the Light Brand compensates for this, and as magic is very lacking among physical units, Leif can deal more damage with it than most other units available in the Munster chapters. Anyone can use theFlame Sword thatEyvel starts with to accomplish a similar purpose, and it boosts its user's magic by 5 points, dealing slightly more damage than the Light Brand when attacking at range, but its high weapon level requirement of B means that only Leif orFergus will be able to use it in a short time. Leif's access to swords is another advantage of his due to the multitude of strong swords available that can compensate for his statistical deficiencies, with a solid base C rank. He has a respectable 2 FCM, and hasAdept and anaction star, but these are unreliable, and there are usually better ways to kill difficult enemies. In addition, Leif is treated as having 1 HP for staff AI targeting, which means because the staff AI prioritizes off of HP, he will always be the last unit targeted by status staves.
During Munster, having Leif trained can make the chapters easier, as aside from Fergus andAsbel there are few units who are good at combat. FromChapter 7 through the mid-game, Leif's combat begins to be eclipsed by that of other units. However, he can still provide support bonuses to many great units, such asFinn and Asbel. As Leif is not affected by fatigue, he will always be available to provide these bonuses. Leif's support utility can further be improved with theKing Sword, which grantsCharm when equipped. While this sword is usable by anyone with a C in swords, Leif is a good wielder as he can act as a Charm bot without taking a deployment slot from another unit. However, the sword is also a very strong weapon and other characters may wish to use it as well.
Leif can also provide the benefits ofauthority; the number of leadership stars Leif has changes throughout the game, corresponding with the status of his advisors,August andDryas:
- Leif has one star forChapter 2x; he loses it after Chapter 2x and regains it at the start ofChapter 6.
- Leif gains one star at the end ofChapter 9, and loses it at the end ofChapter 18.
While Leif's promotion is unimpressive, the class he promotes to is not considered to be promoted for gainingexperience. Crusader Scrolls (especially the ones obtained in the late game) can be used to improve Leif's growths and make him more viable as a combat unit later in the game. TheBragi Sword, having 15 might, grantingMiracle, and acting as anArmorslayer, is also useful, especially against the final boss. However, the weapon is not exclusive to him, and can also be used by Nanna, Fergus, andDiarmuid.
If Leif's physical bulk and speed have been significantly improved enough for him to face an extensive enemy phase without fear of dying, he can benefit from theAccost Manual (obtained inChapter 12x), allowing him to goad enemyBallistae into shooting at him and quickly draining their ammunition; HP is Leif's best growth and Ballistae have 0 attack speed, meaning he can reliably activate Accost. Because Leif is immune to fatigue, he can be better ballista bait than most other units, who will gain fatigue from being attacked. By equipping the Light Brand for the +10 luck and taking advantage of defensiveterrain to boost his avoid, he becomes very difficult for ballistae (and most enemies) to hit. However, doing this makes him more vulnerable to magic users, especiallyDark Mages who can potentially one-round him.

- Main article:
Leif/Heroes
There are four different variations of Leif available inHeroes.
Personality
Leif is impulsive and prone to falling victim to his own emotions and passions. When confronted with a threat to his friends or allies, his first reaction is to pursue the threat head-on to solve the problem, even if such a course of action is doomed to fail. He is particularly prone to hatred, particularly in the aftermath of a failure or a loss, and his hatred for the loss of his family andEyvel was his primary motivation at first for commencing his liberation war.[13] He has a tendency to let his pride and hatred overrule his appreciation for the best route to survive, even at the expense of his friends and allies, as evidence when he initially got furious atAugust's suggestion to seek assistance from Thracia when fleeing Munster because he had lost everything to them.[14] Despite growing up among commoners while on the run, Leif initially possessed a poor understanding of the reality of the world around him and its people, instead having a more black and white view of the nature of the conflict he sought to challenge; he was initially not even aware of some of the more basic actions of the Grannvale Empire or the Loptrians until he encountered them in action, such as the child hunts and theBergrosen.
In this respect, Leif has to rely on the influence of his friends and advisors to deter him from such risky, emotionally-driven courses of action; even then, there are times in which he overcomes their advice, such as when his impulsive insistence on reinforcing Ulster so soon after liberating Leonster was responsible forDryas's death and the elimination of half of Leonster's army.[15] Ultimately, the influence of August and others taught him valuable lessons in how to be a good leader and to be less at the mercy of his own emotions.[16]
Leif also has problems with his own self-worth. He readily criticizes himself for his own flaws on occasion, being somewhat aware of his immature tendencies when not caught in their throes, and takes his own failures exceptionally hard to the point of having trouble focusing on whatever crisis he currently faces, as evidenced with his reaction to the news that Dryas died because of his mistake.[17] In particular, he was somewhat self-conscious of his own lack of aBrand or major holy blood, seeing himself as inferior to the likes of Seliph orCed solely on the basis of lacking their power,[18] and musing that perhaps it indicates him to not be worthy to pursue his path.[19]

Leif/Bond conversations
As anEmblem, Leif has short bond conversations with any playable character upon reaching bond level 5, 10, and 20, which unlock the next bond level. Increasing bond level provides a variety of bonuses, such as raising the stat bonus Leif provides to synchronized units, inheriting weapon proficiencies, unlocking new sync skills and engage weapons, or extending the duration of each engagement.
Endings
Genealogy of the Holy War
At long last, Thracia has been unified. A region once swamped with countless small nations constantly warring among themselves, with the restoration of House Leonster and the downfall of the Thracian kingdom, the Thracian peninsula finally knows peace. And as the first ruler of this new Thracia, the people ardently desired for the throne to be taken by Leif. And so, Leif worked together with
Leif's lover, Leif's wife,

to build a new nation for Thracia's people.
[...]
The Thracian peninsula thus gave rise to a new realm: the Kingdom of New Thracia.
Thracia 776
Leif - Prince of Leonster
Along with Lord Seliph, the rightful heir to the Imperial throne, Leif led the war to liberate Jugdral. After seizing the capital of Belhalla, Leif went on to fight numerous battles throughout the continent. When all was said and done, Leif's fame and renown ultimately surpassed even that of Holy King Seliph. In year 780 of the Grannvale calendar, North and South Thracia were unified into one country. Leif took the throne of this New Kingdom of Thracia, and together withhis queen, Nanna, and his older sister, Altena, led his motherland into a new era of prosperity. They were beloved by the people of North and South alike. Dedicating their lives to reunifying Thracia, Leif and Altena were hailed as the successors to Dáinn and Njörun.
In the annals of Thracian history, the name of King Leif the Wise, the "Sage-Lord," will echo for eternity...

Asbel: I set off after you just as soon as we got separated! Lotta good that did... I couldn't figure out where you'd gone. For the last half-year now, I been stickin' around Munster.
Leif: You left Tarrah that quickly?! Then... you've spent the last three years looking for me...
Asbel: Of course I did! I promised you as much, remember? With your blade and my magic, we were gonna take Thracia back—together! But you just up an' left me behind! That... that was awful heartless of you, Leif. Er, Lord Leif.
Leif: I'm sorry... At the time, I didn't have a choice. Tarrah had been surrounded by the Empire. I had... I had prepared myself for the very real possibility of dying. When I fled, I never imagined I would make it out alive. I didn't want to drag you down with me, so I left you out of it.
Asbel: What a load of pegasus dung...! We swore to live and die together, didn't we? Or was that whole oath just part of some kids' game? I've spent all these years with those words etched into my mind—and I chose to believe in them." — Leif andAsbel,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑ VincentASM,Timelines, Serenes Forest,Retrieved: January 10, 2015

- ↑"You just looked me dead in the eye, held up the sword that was on your belt, and said, "I'll give you this if you help [Finn]." Wasn't till later that I realized how much it meant to you. I heard the blade was an heirloom—belonged to your mother, right?" —Eyvel to Leif at the end ofChapter 24x,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Eyvel welcomed Leif's group as if they were her own kin." — Opening introduction ofChapter 1,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Eyvel... I realized I never thanked you. It's only because of you that I was able to have a peaceful childhood. For three happy years, I was able to play with the other kids in Fiana, spending every day just as carefree as a normal boy... I learned how to fight, and I even roughhoused with the other children... Do you remember how many times you had to scold me, Eyvel? Even that could be fun, sometimes... I'd spent my life on the run, and it was just another new experience for me. We didn't share blood, but we were a family: Finn was my father, you were my mother, and Nanna and Mareeta were my sisters. And I got to make friends with boys my own age, like Osian and Halvan. Back then, the only thing I wanted was for those days to go on forever... I have you to thank for all that, Eyvel. You let me experience what having a mother was like... You gave me back the warmth of family that I'd forgotten so long ago..." — Leif,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Never imagined you would turn out to be the Prince of Leonster, though..." —Eyvel to Leif at the end ofChapter 24x,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Bucks: Oh, and if it's them Freeblade folk yer worried about, we already saw to them. The boss tipped off the Empire that the Leonster boy was hidin' with 'em.
August: Leonster boy...? Wait, you mean Leif, the prince?! Are you certain of this?
Bucks: Sure am. The boss grabbed one of the village folk an' used his talents with a knife to loosen 'is tongue." —Bucks andAugust at the opening ofChapter 2,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"Following their victory at Belhalla, Nanna devoted herself to helping Leif liberate Agustria." —Nanna's epilogue,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"I've never hated the Empire more than I do in this moment, August. They snatched my parents from this world, and now they've taken my mother from me all over again... Raydrik is little more than their hand, committing untold evil at their behest! August, show me how to wage war against them! I'll... I'll do anything to get her back! Just tell me what I need to do!" — Leif,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Leif: A-Ask Thracia for aid?! That's absurd! Those damnable cowards took everything from me: my kingdom, my mother, my father... I'll not come crawling to them with cup in hand!
August: Do you expect to fight off the Knights of Munster with the strength of your pride alone? We are not fighting to satisfy your own sense of vengeance, my prince—we fight to liberate North Thracia from the tyranny of the Empire. You yourself said that there was "no hardship you would be unwilling to endure" to accomplish this. Did you think the only kind of hardship in this war would be from battle?" — Leif andAugust,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"Leif: Dryas! August! You would have me stand idly by and let the people of Ulster be wiped out?! They sheltered me when I was but an infant, and it was Queen Áine's love and care that kept me alive! Father would never forgive me if I didn't repay their kindness! If you can't understand that, you can just wait in this damn castle!
August: How disappointing... I'd hoped you'd grown into a man, but you still think like a child." — Leif andAugust,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"Leif: No, August... The people have you to thank as well. Without your guidance, I never would've made it this far. I started this journey knowing nothing, and you taught me how to be a ruler. I thank you, August—as a monarch, and as your student. I was truly fortunate to have met you...
August: This is... I... I'm not sure what to say... I need to tell you something, my prince. I would be a poor teacher if I continued to keep secrets from you now... It was not by chance that our lives intersected. In fact, I only became your tactician because I was ordered to do so by my benefactor. Truth be told, at the outset I thought liberating North Thracia was an impossible task. But as I spent more time by your side, as I saw how focused you were on freeing your motherland, how earnestly you wanted it... Before I knew it, I had genuinely begun to believe in you. I hope you can forgive me for all the times I doubted you.
Leif: I'll not lie, August... The times when you voiced skepticism of my abilities did always weigh heavily on my heart. Yet you also taught me how to expand my perspective: to realize the depth of everyone's suffering and sorrow. My upbringing, strange and sheltered as it was, left me lacking the tools to understand the lives of my subjects. And I think I still have even more to learn... I need you, August. I'd be honored if you stayed by my side and continued to teach me." — Leif andAugust,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"August, this is all my fault... It's like I killed Dryas myself..." — Leif,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
- ↑"Leif: Even so... I envy you, Prince Ced. The people hail you as a hero, and they're not wrong. You're everything that I'm not: holy blood runs strong in your veins, and you can wield the very weapon your namesake once used. And I... I have nothing. I'm a world apart from the likes of you and Lord Seliph. I... I'm no Crusader...
Ced: Prince Leif... How could you say such a thing?! Being a Crusader means more than just happening to inherit the right kind of blood. For centuries, Jugdral was ruled by the Loptian Order and its Empire—the Crusaders were the ones that overthrew their rule. And that's exactly what you've been doing for a whole year now, Prince Leif! You've fought and bled to liberate the people of Thracia. You walked a path that would've broken lesser men. But on you marched, waging your own holy war to free countless souls from the grip of the Empire! Neither Lord Seliph nor I have any right to call ourselves better than you. You're the youngest of us. You spent your childhood being hunted. And you've never stopped fighting! In fact, you've been fighting for longer than any of us have! If you're not a Crusader, who the hell is?! Take heart, Prince Leif! Your soul sings with the voice of Njörun! You've done her legacy proud!" — Leif andCed,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑"I often ponder what it means that I did not receive the Brand... Perhaps I am not worthy to follow in my father's footsteps? Or was I spared?" — Leif,Fire Emblem Awakening
