Laurent (Japanese:ロランLaurent) is a playable character appearing inFire Emblem Awakening. The son ofMiriel from the future, he traveled back to the past in hopes of aiding his mother andChrom in their war againstGrima.

Role

Laurent is one ofAwakening's several child units. He is one of several characters of themage class and is the son of fellow mageMiriel.

Upon Miriel's marrying, Laurent appears inParalogue 14. He is searching, in a desert located in the southeastern reaches ofArchanea, for a hidden village said to be in possession of a powerfulGoddess Staff. If eitherChrom orMiriel encounter him in the southwest village he elects to join theShepherds in a bid to locate the relic.

After the battle with the desert bandits, regardless of the hidden village being found or not, Laurent meets with his mother to inform her that he is her child from the future. Despite possessing a marriage ring-identical to Miriel's-she still seems somewhat unconvinced. She eventually agrees to acting under the assumption that they are mother and child, but tells Laurent that they will work together to prove or disprove this in the future.

In a later conversation with his father, Laurent reveals that he when he and the other children fled to the past, he ended up arriving three years before Lucina arrived, marking a passage of five years in the past before he joined the Shepherds.^[1]

Personality

Much like his mother, Laurent is seen as an intelligent and dedicated individual. He is often viewed as an overly uptight and serious person. WhenLucina and the other children went back in time Laurent ended up sent three years earlier^[1] than the other children; this resulted in his isolation in an era where he knew no one. Having spent a total of five years in isolation, he felt the need to force the mien of an adult onto himself after being mentally crushed by loneliness.^[2] This leads to him acting distant from his father though he is eventually able to overcome this and open up emotionally to his father.

Unlike many of the other children characters inAwakening, it appears thatMiriel was never fully convinced that he was her child, though she is still willing to conduct studies and experiments with him.^[3] Regardless, Miriel agrees to allowing the two of them to live on the assumption that they are parent and child^[4] and he refers to her as "mother" in conversation.

Laurent: The Elucidator
Laurent came from the future world of Ylisse. He's the son of Miriel, a member of Chrom's Shepherds, and he's very much inherited her stern and serious nature!	Nothing escapes the keen-eyed Laurent's notice. His friends see him as a reliable ally who always knows how to provide the best support!	That said, there was a little bit of an incident when he traveled to Ylisse's past like the others—a time travel blip caused him to arrive a few years earlier than planned!	Stranded, Laurent was left all alone for about half a decade before he was finally reunited with his mother… I'm just glad that they found each other in the end!
