Lana (Japanese:ラナLana) is the youngest child of LadyEdain ofYngvi. Along with her brother,Lester, she was born and raised in hiding in theIsaachian village ofTirnanog in the aftermath of theBattle of Belhalla, alongsideSeliph ofChalphy and under the care of her mother,Oifey andShannan. She was later one of the first members of Seliph's liberation army in Grann 777.

Lana'ssubstitute character isMuirne, who fills Lana's role if Edain died or was not married in the course of the first generation.

Biography

Upon receiving the news of the impendingDozel assault onTirnanog in light of their discovery of its status as the rebel hideout, Lana volunteered to joinSeliph in the ensuing battle; despite Seliph's insistence that she stay behind, he relented when Lana refused to budge on the matter.

Analysis

Lana joins the army at the start of Chapter 6 ofGenealogy of the Holy War, the first chapter of the second generation and will inherit her motherEdain's Minor UllrHoly Blood and all her staves up to B rank. Lana cannot fight until promotion and her mother passes down noskills, leaving her role as a healer, and even if she does get some skills orHoly Blood, her combat after promotion is not great. She and her brotherLester can never both be as useful as they possibly could, because Lester needs a father who hasFollow-Up and can pass down bows for him to be at his best, while Lana's ideal father,Claud, gives him neither of these and poor strength as well. Aside from Claud, most fathers will have a limited impact on Lana, mostly providing her with skills and/or Holy Blood; regardless of her father, she will always be able to inherit staves Edain could use at base, such asRecover,Warp, andPhysic.

While Lana is overall a good and reliable healer, her low movement prevents her from keeping pace with high-movement mounts, and they can't always be within the range of Lana's far-reaching staves like Physic, especially since bothNanna and a promoted Leif are mounted and can use staves, thus making it easier for them to reach units and heal them. She will always have the staff level to useWarp and can be used to transport units around the map or quickly gain experience forrankings, but without significantly slowing down mounted units, her contributions beyond that will be limited.

The best father for Lana is Claud, as his Major Bragi Blood will increase Lana's staff level to A, allowing her to inherit a number of useful staves in generation 2 before they would otherwise be able to be obtained, particularly theRescue staff. Edain and Claud can have a conversation inChapter 5 where Edain receives Rescue, and Lana will be able to inherit it from Edain and use it from Chapter 6; normally, the Rescue staff could be obtained inChapter 10. However, as Lana will always have 5 movement, the utility of Rescue and other powerful staves is initially limited, though it can still be useful to get Seliph moving to his next objective, especially inChapter 7 with the large amount of backtracking needed to seize castles. Additionally, onceLeif is promoted, he can use Rescue while being mounted. However, the cost of pairing Claud with Edain is a borderline-uselessLester.

Personality

While somewhat quiet and shy, Lana possesses an unbending will and a determination to help others, refusing to see herself as weak or unable to contribute to the war effort; at the same time, however, she is somewhat modest and downplays her achievements when complimented.^[1] While scared of the challenges facing her and Seliph's army, she draws strength to carry on by thinking of the people for whom she is fighting.^[2]

Lana: Benevolent Bride
Lana is the daughter of Edain, a lady of Grannvale's House Yngvi from the continent of Jugdral. She's here to celebrate the bridal festival!	Lana has come dressed up in a bride outfit to match the theme for this occasion. Her spectacular dress is decorated with bows on the bodice, waist, and veil!	There's also a splendid bouquet at the top of the staff she's carrying. It might be as helpful for bringing about happy unions as it is for treating wounds, and she won't even have to throw it!	Back in Jugdral, Lana fought against the oppression of the Grannvale Empire as a member of the liberation army. I bet her fellow freedom fighters would be stunned to see her in her lovely bride outfit!
