Unfortunately, their victory is followed up by a visit from GeneralValter of Grado and his military force, but Kyle, Forde, and Ephraim successfully escape Valter's Wyvern Knights.
In Chapter 8, Kyle and company appear soon after Eirika arrives at Renvall. Sometime between the capture of Renvall and their escape from Valter, Orson betrays Renais. He serves the army loyally to the end.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Kyle first becomes available in Chapter 5x with decent bases in all areas. He is durable enough to survive two hits from all enemies in his joining chapter, and while he cannot double all of them, he can still contribute offensively as well. Being aCavalier benefits him greatly; it is among the best unpromoted classes inThe Sacred Stones, thanks to its high movement, rescue-dropping utility,Canto, weapon triangle control, and ability to useJavelins. Kyle has a base C rank in lances and a D rank in swords, allowing him to use the aforementioned Javelins from the start and fight enemies at 1-2 range.
Kyle's main problems stem from his competition. While his bases and growths are decent, neither are amazing.Franz, who joins earlier, has much more time to gain levels, and his stats will almost certainly be better than Kyle's when they are both available. However, he has an advantage over his direct competitor,Forde. While Forde has superior growths and bases in a few stats, Kyle's strength and defenses are better, and they also have higher growths. Kyle initially suffers from a minor speed disadvantage, but he will eventually grow out of it. He will deal more damage per attack than Forde on average while also being more durable. For these reasons, most players use Kyle over Forde, although it is still completely acceptable to use both. While the differences between them are not very substantial, Kyle still has advantages in important areas like durability and strength that add up over time. As long as both Kyle and Forde can double, Kyle will perform a bit better.
TheKnight Crest is a competitive promotion item.Franz,Gilliam, and Forde also need to use it to promote, and all of them are viable units. If Kyle does end up promoting, his best promotion choice is definitelyPaladin. WhileGreat Knight's statistical bonuses are better, and he receives an additional weapon type in axes, the class decreases Kyle's movement. Paladin grants an additional point of movement instead, which translates to higher utility throughout the game. Even if Kyle is promoted to Great Knight to make his stats better than his competitors', it will also make his movement around the map much slower, preventing him from taking advantage of these stats.

Personality
Kyle has a strong sense of duty as a knight. He focuses his entire life on training to better defend his country, never wasting a minute of his time. He has a tendency to be a bit paranoid, especially when it comes to the safety of PrinceEphraim and his fellow knights. He constantly worries about the Prince's well-being, and tries to force him out of the front lines whenever possible. In support conversations withColm, it is revealed that Kyle regularly sends coded messages to the knights ofRenais, telling ofEirika andEphraim's safety. Kyle is very upfront, and speaks his mind about most everything, the exception being romantic feelings.
Kyle values his comrades on the warfront, honing in on their talents and using them to promote victory. For example, he utilizes Colm's stealthiness in obtaining secret information, and he develops new strategies usingLute's magical genius. He carries a bitter rivalry withForde, and hates losing to him, though they're quite evenly matched.
Kyle was born a commoner of Renais. From a very young age, he knew he wanted to serve his country as a knight. He andForde grew up together, starting as early as their years at the nursery, which Kyle supposedly made plans to take over. As a youngster, Kyle would always be the first to rush to the aid of a girl in need. Somewhere along the line,Ephraim joined Kyle's training sessions, and he and Kyle formed a bond closer to brotherhood. Kyle andSyrene met inFrelia ten years before theWar of the Stones, therefore, in theyear 793. Kyle was sent to deliver a letter to KingHayden, and encountered some bandits along the way. Kyle tried to drive them off singlehandedly, and was in trouble when Syrene came to his aid. She then showed him around Frelia, and he delighted in the sight of the sea, not having seen it because of the fact that Renais is a landlocked country.
