Kronya (pronounced /⁠ˈkɹɑnjə⁠/^[key]; Japanese:クロニエKlonie) is an antagonist appearing inFire Emblem: Three Houses andFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. She is a member ofthose who slither in the dark.

Biography

Pre-games

While Kronya's past is unknown, it is shown inWarriors: Three Hopes that in early 1180, she was stationed in a hidden fortress between Empire and Kingdom territory which containedMonica von Ochs, kidnapped scion of theAdrestian Empire's House Ochs, being implied she intended to make use of Monica's body as her own through dark rituals in order to impersonate her later.^[3][4]

Three Houses

Kronya first appears late into 1180 at the end ofChapter 6 under the guise of Monica von Ochs and pretending to have been kidnapped along withFlayn by theDeath Knight, as a ploy to infiltrateGarreg Mach Monastery. She joins theBlack Eagles afterwards and spends around 3 months pretending to finish Monica's studies while staying close toEdelgard von Hresvelg, princess of Adrestia. Near the end of the year, while Kronya's overseeing tests with her group'sExperimental Demonic Beasts in a ruined chapel of the monastery,Jeralt,Byleth and their chosen class' show up to subdue the monsters, and notices Jeralt's paying attention how the beasts bear strange stones on their foreheads and transform into students when slain. Once Jeralt and co. finish their business, Kronya sneaks into the scene as Monica and pretends to be another rescued student, and proceeds to stab Jeralt once he lowers his guard. Byleth then attempts to use theirDivine Pulse and attack Kronya to prevent their father's death, but is stopped byThales, Kronya's superior, who quickly escapes along with her.

One month later, Kronya is ordered by Thales to remain with fellow memberSolon in the Sealed Forest for non-disclosed reasons, which she accepts. In due time,Byleth and their allies find Kronya, defeat her in battle, and pursue her into the woods in order to avenge Jeralt. Solon then appears to seemingly help Kronya, before ritually sacrificing her much to her shock, ripping her heart out in order to perform a dark spell meant to seal Byleth in a void for all eternity.

Warriors: Three Hopes

Early in 1180,Jeritza von Hrym leadsShez and their chosen class into Kronya's fortress while looking for the remnants ofKostas' bandits, and has the students attack the area and rescue Monica from its basement. Upon getting the news, Kronya attempts to kill the invaders with the support of a Demonic Beast but ends up defeated, retreating to parts unknown.

In Imperial year 1183, Kronya reappears in the Scarlet Blaze route duringLudwig Von Aegir's revolt against Edelgard. She provides the former Duke Aegir agarthan manpower andViskams in Fort Merceus in order to ensure his success, but ends up slain by the Empire as they foil Ludwig's coup and retake control of the Imperial Fortress. Also in 1183, Kronya can be fought alongsideMyson by the Kingdom army in the Azure Gleam route as they hunt for the dark mages that once servedCleobulus but retreats when bested, reappearing one last time to protect the Empire-seizedGarreg Mach Monastery from Kingdom forces before meeting her end in the struggle.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Role

Kronya is the boss of the first half of Chapter 10, and defeating her allows Byleth to upgrade theSword of the Creator to its true form, the Sublime Creator Sword. In her Monica disguise, she can be interacted with in Chapters 7 and 8 at the monastery.

Role

Kronya appears as the boss of Chapter 2 of all three routes. In Scarlet Blaze, she acts as a miniboss for Chapter 13's main story mission; in Azure Gleam meanwhile, she's one of the bosses from the paralogueEvil's Bane and Love's Protection, and acts as a miniboss for the route's final mission.

Personality

Kronya is extremely sadistic and bloodthirsty. She takes great pleasure in inflicting pain and violence upon others, and is more than happy to follow her Agarthan masters in order to sate her bloodlust,^[5] showing a similar disposition with Kiran inHeroes.^[6] Kronya is impatient and lacks tolerance toward failure,^[7] constantly wishing to show herself useful. Like all on-screen Agarthans, she considers herself to be a member of Fódlan's master race and the surface-dwelling humans to be nothing but lowly animals, almost exclusively referring them as "vermin";^[8] however, Kronya shows she is capable of feeling something akin to friendship towards Kiran inHeroes, in spite of considering them an inferior being,^[9] and during her last moments, she begs for aid from those whom she just had tried to kill moments prior.^[10] Kronya also believes that deep down, humans relish in causing death and violence just like her, despite their claims of peace.^[11]
