TheKnight Lord (Japanese:ロードナイトLordknight) is anadvanced, mountedlord-typeclass. It is shared by threeFire Emblem series protagonists: it is thepromoted class forSeliph ofGenealogy of the Holy War andEliwood ofThe Blazing Blade, and is the initial class ofSigurd, Seliph's father, inGenealogy of the Holy War. Wielding bothswords andlances, the class bears many similarities to thePaladin class.

InGenealogy of the Holy War, the Knight Lord promotes fromJunior Lord under the usual circumstances for the game; it is not a story-driven event and can be done at any time once Seliph reaches Level 20. InThe Blazing Blade, it promotes from Eliwood'sLord variant, the circumstances of which depend on the story mode in question; inEliwood's tale, the promotion is an automatic event at the end ofChapter 27, while inHector's story mode, theHeaven Seal promotion item can be used at any time under the usual promotion circumstances.

Additionally, anunused unpromoted class that shares the same name in western versions (Japanese:リキア騎士Lycia Knight) is also found in the data ofThe Blazing Blade.

Trivia

  • InThe Blazing Blade, the Knight Lord has a unique battle animation when wieldingDurandal. In the0206 and0219 pre-release builds of the game, this animation is significantly different from that of the finished product, sporting a much shorter blade.
  • During development ofMystery of the Emblem, there were plans for a class named "Knight Lord" (ナイトロード); it would have been more powerful thanPaladin class, and would have been unlocked if the player avoided defeating "less-evil" enemy units.[1] It was removed due to the concept being too similar to other games.[1]

[Kaga: There were quite a few units that were scrapped. One example was the "Falcoknight", which was another powered-up version of a Pegasus Knight.
There was also one where the enemy parameters were divided into really bad guys and not-so-bad guys, and if you didn't defeat the not-so-bad guys you could become a "Knight Lord," an even more powerful class than Paladin, but we dropped it halfway through because there were other games that were very similar.]" — Kaga, S.
