Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Role
Lyn's tale
Kent appears inChapter 1, along with his more relaxed friend andcavalier partnerSain. The two are in the town ofBulgar on a mission. Sain tries unsuccessfully to courtLyn, and she walks away. She returns and asks Kent to move his horse so she can cross the road. He complies; she compliments him on his good manners, but when he states that he believes he has seen her before, she takes this as an attempt to flirt and angrily walks off. Kent scolds Sain and states that she may be their mission.
Bandits attack Lyn, and Kent and Sain ride up to save her. After the battle is over, Kent explains that he and Sain were traveling up to theSacae plains fromLycia for a mission as messengers toMadelyn, the marquess ofCaelin's daughter, who had left the castle and eloped with a nomad years ago. The marquess presumed them dead, but when he received a letter stating that they were living happily on the plains, he wanted to see them. The two knights had learned that Madelyn had died days after sending the letter; however, they found that her daughter Lyndis was still alive. Kent recognized Lyn in the town with a great resemblance to her mother, seen in castle portraits.
Lyn reminisces about how she thought she would never hear "Lyndis" again when she remembers that one of the bandits had called her Lyndis. Sain deduces that he must have been hired by Lundgren, the younger brother of the marquess, and explains that, as the next heir, Lyn's life is in danger. Kent suggests that she ride with them to Caelin to stay alive and to meet her grandfather, and she accepts.
Kent advises Lyn about many decisions throughout the game. Usually, he takes a more serious and sensible stance on things. He continues to help her up to Castle Caelin and then goes back to the Caelin forces.
Eliwood/Hector's tale
Kent appears inNoble Lady of Caelin, Chapter 15 of Eliwood's tale, and Chapter 16 of Hector's tale. He, Lyn, Sain,Florina, andWil are trapped outside Castle Caelin when theLaus army attacks the castle. Anxiously, they are stuck outside, worried about MarquessHausen's safety. They spot Eliwood and Hector's army coming from the west and decide to join them. The two groups converge and work up to the castle.
Kent joins Eliwood and Hector's army and fights with them for the rest of the story.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Kent andSain join in Chapter 15 of Eliwood Mode, Chapter 16 of Hector Mode, and their usefulness depends on whether the player has played Lyn Mode. Without Lyn Mode, both cavaliers join with mediocre stats for their join time, and on Hard Mode, they also don't have any good weapons in their inventories. Neither will be fast enough to double, either. While they will become good with investment, they are average units when they join. Both also suffer from being outclassed byLowen, who joins earlier with comparable base stats and will have gained a couple of levels by the time Kent and Sain join.
Despite these weaknesses, theCavalier class is among the best unpromoted classes inThe Blazing Blade. It has high mobility, two weapon types for weapon triangle manipulation, rescue drop utility, andCanto. Thanks to these advantages, both Kent and Sain can contribute despite their mediocre bases, and training them is not too difficult. They can both survive two attacks from enemies in their joining chapter, even in Hector Hard Mode, which makes it easier to keep them alive, too. They have a D rank in swords and lances at base level, allowing them to useSteel Swords andJavelins with no investment. If regularly trained, they will remain solid contributors for the whole game, although they will not be amazing.
If the player chooses to play Lyn Mode, both Kent and Sain can become excellent units. They can receive plenty of levels in the ten maps of Lyn Mode, and they are among the best units to train there, thanks to their class. Furthermore, if Lyn Mode is played on the Hard difficulty, the player can promote one of Kent or Sain withWallace'sKnight Crest. With thePaladin promotion bonuses and all stat increases accumulated until that point, whoever is promoted this way will be among the player's best units when they join in Hector or Eliwood Mode. There are also several stat boosters in Lyn Mode the player can invest in Kent or Sain to make them even better, including anEnergy Ring and anAngelic Robe.
While the player can only promote one of Lyn Hard Mode's cavaliers, both can still be trained, and they are among the best users of the early investment. When it comes to choosing between Kent and Sain, Sain's strength base and growth are higher, so he will deal more damage if he can double enemies. By comparison, Kent's damage output is lower, but he has a slight speed advantage and slight defensive advantages. Generally, Sain's higher damage is more important than Kent's better defenses, but they are both good units and worth using.

Personality
Kent is a serious knight ofCaelin. He is very virtuous and good-willed, often trying to be helpful for others. Kent's speech is polite and sophisticated, and he is generally very friendly to others, although he does have to chastiseSain for his relaxed attitudes towards being a knight. He has a very strong sense of duty, although many seem to comment on this.[1] As another flaw, he says to Sain that he has trouble talking to women.[2] He is overall a very chivalrous, dedicated knight.
In his first appearance, Kent is a normalcavalier in the service of Caelin. At the end of Lyn's tale, he becomes the commander of Caelin's knights.[3] He is very dedicated to Lyn, the next marquess of Caelin, and he seems to have feelings for her.[4] His partner and good friend isSain, a very relaxed, flirtatious cavalier. He speaks little about his background or past.

Trivia
- There is an error in Kent and Wallace's C-rank support conversation in the English version ofThe Blazing Blade. In the conversation, Lyn's parents are said to have eloped 17 years prior to Eliwood/Hector's tale. While this is correct in the Japanese version, the correct figure according to the localization should be 20 years prior due to the localization increasing Lyn's age from 15 to 18.
