Karin (Japanese:カリンKarin) is a playablepegasus rider inFire Emblem: Thracia 776. She rides a pegasus called Hermes (Japanese:エルメスHermes).[2]
Biography
Karin was a pegasus rider of Silesse, and a friend of PrincessFee. Following the death of QueenErinys, she decided to go search for PrinceCed. One day, as she was assaulted by soldiers, she was rescued byFergus. Both of them were then captured and thrown inMunster's dungeon.[3] WhenLeif was placed in the same cell, Karin decided to escape and follow him. During their escape, she was able to find Ced, now leading theMagi in Munster. Karin informed Ced of his mother's death; Ced decided to stay in Munster in order to free the city, and gave Karin an heirloom of the Silessian royal family, theCed Scroll.
Karin followed Leif outside the city. During her travel, she metMisha, a captain of the knights of Silesse, now working underFriege, and was able to convince her to join Leif. After the war, Karin became a Pegasus Knight of Silesse.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Karin joins in Chapter 4, where she is dismounted and unarmed, like Fergus, who joins alongside her. She cannot contribute much indoors, because her movement is hindered, her strength is low and she has bad physical durability, with low HP and defense, which make most enemies a threat to her, especially due to the dismounting penalties. She has very high base speed and luck and excellent growths in those areas, so she dodges well, is very resistant to critical hits, consistently doubles enemies and will quickly cap those stats. However, her constitution is very low at 4, which will give her penalties to her speed, especially with heavy weapons. Her primary use in theMunster escape arc is baiting enemies and exploiting her high avoid to her advantage while other units kill them and open doors and chests. She also has a mutual support withFergus, so it's a great idea to keep them together so Fergus can performs critical hits more efficiently. Karin's base magic is high at 7, so she can take hits from mages better than other units, but her strength is very low, rendering her unable to kill most enemies at full HP in one round, and her shaky HP and defense mean that she can't be exposed to too many enemies or she will be in danger of death if she has to rely on her bulk, as she relies on her ability to dodge.
Once Karin is deployed on outdoor maps and can ride her pegasus, she becomes a useful utility unit thanks to the new mechanics. Karin's greatest contributions involve her ability to travel across terrain unimpeded. She can help unmounted units in escape maps by picking them up and ferrying them to the escape point viarescuing them, which helps in several useful strategies. She can pick upLeif or a thief to help them reach an important objective, or rescue a staff user to protect them from harm. Karin is also among the best users of theLeg Ring available in Chapter 8x, because her movement is never impeded by terrain on outdoor maps like forests and can fly over mountains. Especially with the Leg Ring, she can visit villages difficult or impossible to reach with non-flying units, and allows her to travel through a Ballista or siege tome's range (which she can also do with a promotion). By rescuing allies, she can also help them in reaching escape points faster, especially in terrains that slow them down, as she has no movement penalties when she's mounted. However, she only benefits from terrain bonuses when she is dismounted, and she will be easily killed in one hit by bows and balistas if she's mounted, so she also needs to get off of her pegasus at the right time depending on the situation when she is outdoors. Always make sure that Karin has a sword to use after dismounting, as she will be captured if she's unarmed and dismounted.
Karin's primary flaw is that her combat remains irrelevant without significant investment. Her base weapon ranks are very low: D-rank in swords indoors is mediocre, but E-rank in lances outdoors is even worse, although she's only 10 wexp from a D-rank. Karin cannot even useJavelins without raising her weapon rank in lances. Since she cannot use weapons with high might well due to her low constitution of 4, her attacking power will stay very poor for a while because of her low base strength. Karin's defense of 4, while not impossible to salvage, is also very low, grows even less than her also lacking strength, and makes it dangerous for her to fight more one enemy at a time. She can make use of scrolls to increase her growth rates and allow her to fight enemies more easily, but this applies to any player unit. She greatly benefits from a B rank in swords, as her solid base magic makes her a good candidate for magic swords, improving her combat when she's dismounted.
Karin is also not the only unit inThracia 776 who can fly outdoors. That said, she joins first, granting her several chapters of exclusive utility. The next two fliers join much later, in Chapter 14, giving Karin almost ten chapters with no competition in her niche.

Karin, Driven Knight
Returning to her native Silesse, Karin finally fulfilled her dream of joining the Order of Pegasus Knights. Although her service record doesn't indicate she went on to do anything particularly noteworthy, Karin nevertheless became regarded as an excellent Pegasus Knight in her own right.
