Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

Book 2

Role

Jubelo first appears in Chapter 1, where he and his sister Yuliya are under the care ofLorenz during his rebellion against the Archanean occupation of Grust. After Lorenz dies of his wounds, the siblings are forcibly captured byLang, the leader of the occupation army, and taken to his castle for execution. Before this can happen they are rescued byOgma, a mercenary working for King Talys who had sworn to defend the children. Ogma takes them throughMacedon to meet with the bishopWendell ofKhadein, who had taught Jubelo to use magic, but unbeknownst to them he had already been captured by Lang. While their nearing the village they are attacked by a group of bandits in the area, but they are aided in their defense by a mysterious paladin namedSirius, who wants to protect the children. Here they meet up withMarth and the Altean army and join his forces for the remainder of the War of Heroes.

InMystery of the Emblem, promotion gains for HP and weapon level consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—thex value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base value. If the character's value for one of those two stats is higher than their promoted class's base value, they will not receive any bonus in that stat.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jubelo is aMage who joins in Chapter 4. His base stats are low and he's overshadowed by both Merric and Linde, who have personal weapons inExcalibur andAura andNosferatu respectively, and the latter also joins one chapter before him, but his offensive growth rates are fairly high, having the best strength growth for mages at a solid 50%, which grants him a niche that will make a competent combat unit once it kicks in. However, getting there will require some investment, as Jubelo's low strength base limits his damage, and his low weapon level prevents him from using strong tomes to mitigate it. He will deal at least useful chip damage to the many 0-resistance enemies, he can double many enemies with a Fire tome, and he can dealeffective damage to fliers withCutting Gale, but he will struggle to defeat most enemies without another unit weakening them first. Even once he has reached level 10, his strength is only going to be on par with Arlen's and Merric's base, and he may not even be at that high of a level when they join.

Jubelo can promote toBishop with theBishop's Ring, granting him access to staves; as his weapon level growth is solid, he will be able to use most staves in the game as soon as he promotes. However, Jubelo requires at least nine levels to reach promotion, and will be competing with other Mages andClerics to promote, most of whom join stronger and have an easier time leveling up than Jubelo. Overall, while Jubelo is not bad, and training him will allow him to be a high-damaging mage, he's outclassed.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jubelo is aMage who joins in Chapter 4 ofNew Mystery of the Emblem, and his high availability is his greatest advantage. Since he uses magic and has 1-2 range, he can avoid counterattacks and can provide some chip damage against the several low-resistance enemies, but all of his base stats are very low, especially for higher difficulties, and he will die in one or two hits to every enemy that approaches him, while on harder difficulties, he lacks the speed to avoid being doubled and will get one-shotted with ease. Jubelo's personal magic base is -2, which is a significant penalty to his combat capability; every other unit reclassed toMage will have better magic than Jubelo does with no investment. As such, Jubelo's damage output is very low, so training him is challenging, as he may be unable to finish enemies off unless they are weakened by other units. He's particularly overshadowed byLinde, who joins just one chapter earlier but has better base stats, higher growths and is able to use strong tomes inAura andNosferatu, as well asMerric, who joins halfway through the game but also stands out more than Jubelo thanks toExcalibur, which other male mages, Jubelo included, can only use with a B level in tomes, while his starting weapon level is D.

Jubelo's only advantage outside of availability is that he has a D level in tomes at base, which is better than the default E level other units reclassed toMage start with and gives him immediate access to a useful high-crit and flier-effective tome inCutting Gale, which can be obtained in the chapter he joins, but it does not fix his low magic; a unit with 0 personal magic reclassed to Mage will deal 1 less damage withThunder than Jubelo withElfire, and can reclass into a different class to provide better damage or some other utility. His offensive growths are not high enough to compensate his very shaky base stats in a game where growth rates are generally high and several characters received more significant buffs to their growth rates than him, as his are not increased enough to compensate for the much stronger enemies compared to the original game and the options for harder difficulties.
