Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Ignatius starts out as a level 14Knight inParalogue 17 ofConquest, and a level 15 Knight inRevelation. Since he is a child unit, his bases, growths, mods, pair up bonuses, and potential starting skill sets can vary depending on who his mother is. His personal skill,Guarded Bravery, makes him more susceptible to damage if he is not paired up, making pair up very important to him, and he gets -2 damage taken when actually paired up. Ignatius also starts with Knight's skills ofDefense +2 for extra bulk, andNatural Cover for -3 damage taken from both physical and magical attacks when on tiles that grant special effects. Due to Ignatius's generally low base speed, he will wantGeneral'sWary Fighter to prevent him from getting doubled. After that, he can go into any other classes the player has planned for him, though with a lot of investment and or with specific mothers, Ignatius can have the power to be able to double on his own. His fatherBenny has several choices for wives that have their own attributes to make Ignatius a powerful combat unit.

Corrin is special in the fact that she can pass more variable growths and mods depending on her boon and bane stats. The class Ignatius inherits isNohr Prince, and the promotion choices betweenNohr Noble on both routes, andHoshido Noble onRevelation. Despite not being naturally proficient in swords, the class itself is not bad, and neither are the skills.Nobility gives him extra experience to help him get off the ground sooner, andDragon Fang gives a chance, though pretty unreliable, to tack on extra damage to his attacks. Nohr Noble givesDraconic Hex to help him cripple units for others to take experience from, andNohrian Trust gives him access to his supporting unit's trigger skills that are not currently in his skill set, likeKaze'sMiraculous Save. Hoshido Noble givesDragon Ward for another unreliable skill that lets him reduce damage done to adjacent allies, andHoshidan Unity gives +10% proc to his trigger skills. Also due to his maternal parentage, he will be weak to dragon effective weaponry likeWyrmslayers, so keep that in mind.

Felicia is generally a poor mother for non-magical children, and Ignatius is no exception. His great strength-based combat is hurt with Felicia's low growth, his mod is in the negative, and Felicia doesn't even pass a good magic growth to make using magical classes viable, even temporarily to get skills. This pairing is only good as an easy way to give himTomebreaker since Felicia has an easier time obtaining it compared to other units. If the player doesn't plan on that, this pairing should be sternly avoided.

Azura passes the best natural speed growth without class growth modifiers, making this one of the best pairings for a doubling Ignatius, and he has all positive mods. TheSky Knight class tree she passes is quite good for having access to a mount with eight unimpeded movement as aFalcon orKinshi Knight, and access to powerful skills.Darting Blow gives more attack speed,Warding Blow makes him nearly immune to magic attacks on player phase, andAir Superiority gives better hit and avoid against flying units, which is perfect in conjunction with Kinshi's bow access for effective damage.

Mozu's biggest selling point is passing theAptitude skill for an extra 10% to all his growths, which puts all of them except magic above the 40% threshold. She also passes theVillager class, which he can reclass to and perform well in since he does not lose his lance rank, and he could get Aptitude from there and have Mozu pass anArcher class tree specific skill, likeQuick Draw orCertain Blow. Staying in Villager will also give IgnatiusUnderdog, which gives him extra hit and avoid when at a lower level than the enemy, which is useful when he is being trained. The other big point in Mozu's favor is theMaster of Arms class, which gives Ignatius another class with full weapon triangle manipulation, and it gives the very good skill ofLife and Death. All in all, Mozu is a great mother.

Elise is similar to Felicia with passing theTroubadour class tree, but gives Ignatius a good magic growth when reclassing, which lets him have an easier time getting important Troubadour skills likeGentilhomme,Rally Resistance, andInspiration. Support skills synergizes well with tanky units since they are just there to act as shields for other units, and are perfectly fine with supporting units sometimes rather than attacking enemies. This pairing also gives Ignatius a very high luck growth, which mitigatesBerserker's general weakness to critical hits with them reducing the luck stat, and having an innate -5 crit avoid.

Being physical mothers,Effie andCharlotte are suitable, giving him high growths in many different areas, but Effie is slightly superior since the only growth Charlotte is better in is HP, and Effie is better in strength, luck, defense, and resistance. Ignatius doesn't have a super high speed growth, making it the safer option to just use Wary Fighter. However, both of these candidates viability is hurt with passing the Troubadour class, which Ignatius makes less use of than if he was mothered by Felicia or Elise since he'll have very low magic growths. Also compared to Felicia and Elise, this pairing serves as a way for Ignatius to get Tomebreaker on his own by being in theButler class, and most daggers are physical weapons, making the process relatively pain free.

Nyx is another magically-oriented character, and is generally not a good mother since she cripples Ignatius' physical prowess like Felicia and Elise. However,Dark Mage andSorcerer give him pretty high magic growths, but he won't have a super good base, meaning he'll need plenty ofMagic Tonics, meals, or even pair ups to make this work.Dark Knight would be his best class with this pairing so he can utilize magical tomes that Nyx helps to make better using compared to other characters, and Ignatius can use his better physical combat by using swords. This class tree also has very useful skills likeHeartseeker,Malefic Aura,Seal Magic, andLifetaker.Bowbreaker is also really good with its massive amount of extra hit and avoid against bows, but both of Dark Knight's weapons have a natural advantage against them, making this mostly a way to gain a much better edge againstTakumi inConquest, orMikoto inRevelation.

Camilla andBeruka both give him really good growths, and pass the amazingWyvern Rider class tree, giving him another way to access access high amounts of movement without being impeded by terrain. Ignatius also gets powerful skills such asSavage Blow,Trample,Rally Defense,Swordbreaker, or even justStrength +2.

Selena isn't super noteworthy. She passes theMercenary class line, which is noticeably worse on Ignatius due to already havingHero from the his base Fighter class line, but this does allow him to accessStrong Riposte for extra damage on enemy phase. The best use of Selena is for theBow Knight class to getRally Skill for a useful support skill, andShurikenbreaker to try to prevent Ignatius from getting debuffed byNinja class tree enemies andMaids. If the player wants to have Ignatius as a permanent Bow Knight, the player should make him be able to double since that is one of the biggest advantages of bows compared to weapons likeJavelins andHand Axes that cannot make follow-up attacks.

Peri is another decent mother in growths and mods. She passes theCavalier class tree, which faces similar issues with Selena since Cavalier can also promote to Great Knight. This option opens upPaladin as a final class, which trades Great Knight's bulk for extra accuracy, luck, resistance, and having eight ground movement compared to seven. This pairing does give access to some decent skills likeElbow Room for extra damage when on regular tiles,Shelter to be able to rescue units in dangerous situations, andDefender for extra stats when paired up, which Ignatius will be in frequently due to his personal skill.

Oboro is a good mother, but she is only available in theRevelation route. She passes theSpear Fighter class tree, which synergizes very well with Ignatius since he will keep his lance rank reclassing. This class tree gives powerful skills such asSwap,Lancefaire,Rend Heaven, andQuixotic.

Rinkah is also aRevelation exclusive. She passes theOni Savage class tree, which also houses great skills.Shove gives Ignatius opportunities to move other units,Death Blow gives a big crit bonus when initiating combat, andLancebreaker gives a huge boost to hit and avoid when fighting lances.Counter is a pretty useful skill on many other units, but is generally worse on Ignatius due to him not taking much damage if he is made to be a tank that takes little damage, which would mitigate the skill's practicality.
