High Priest (Japanese:ハイプリーストHigh Priest) is anadvanced magicalclass which was introduced inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is present only inGenealogy,Thracia 776, andEngage, and a counterpart to the role of theBishop in most other games. The High Priest acts as thepromoted class forPriests of both genders inGenealogy andThracia 776, and as one of the options forMartial Monks inEngage alongsideMartial Master. High Priests wieldstaves in all three games, but their choice of weapons varies between the games: they wield the three forms ofanima magic inGenealogy of the Holy War,light magic inThracia 776, andtomes orarts inEngage.

High Priests are competent healers with highmagic and exceptionalresistance, but are lacking in physicaldefense. In the SNES games, their offensive capabilities are passable with their high magic, but are crippled by having restricted access to offensive magic with their lowweapon levels and, inThracia 776, very few light magic tomes available for them to use. They are further held back inGenealogy of the Holy War by theirmovement, tied with that of theGeneral for the lowest of any advanced class, in a game with a strong focus on large maps and high movement. They fare better on offense inEngage, with their basetome level of B being able to wield a good variety of tomes, and their supplemental Art access helping against high-resistance foes. Additionally, both weapon levels can be boosted by innate proficiencies, letting High Priests with Tome proficiency access every normal tome in the game except the S-RankNova.
