The Sable Order

Marth took the League to Helena Castle in the north, an old fortress and key supply point during Dolhr and Grust's occupation. There he meant to seize the last of the enemy's gold and provisions—but Grust would not give up the castle without a fight...

Helena Castle (Japanese:マクロニソスの城Makronisos Castle) is the third side quest inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. In order to reach this chapter, the player must have 15 or fewer units alive at the end ofChapter 17.

Plot

Main article:Helena Castle/Script

After the liberation ofAltea,Marth and his companions travel to Helena Castle to seizeGrustian supplies and root out the last of the invaders. Inside the castle, the Grustian generalDactyl forces a captive sorcerer namedEtzel to fight for him in order to reclaim his stolen ring. Despite his efforts, Marth and co. wipe out the enemy and seize the castle. If Etzel survived the battle, he approaches Marth, thanks him for the rescue, explains that the ring was the last memento of his deceased wife, and offers his service in the coming conflicts.

Strategy

This chapter is filled with locked doors and hidden treasures. You'll needthieves or a lot of keys. Strategize by dividing your units into a small team and a large team:

Boss Encounter:

  • The boss's door opens after you pass a Hero near the south part of the map.
  • Etzel attacks only if provoked or you're within his range.
  • Defeat the nearby Manakete quickly using magic or a Wyrmslayer.
  • The bossDactyl has aSilver Lance; use magic to defeat him quickly.

New Unit:

  • Etzel, a pre-promotedSorcerer, joins at the end if he survives. His base stats are good enough for him to serve as your main combat mage for the rest of the game.
