"Great Master" (大師dàshī in Mandarin Chinese, ordaishi in Japanese) is astyle used when addressing Buddhist monks.

山伏

Officially romanized asYamabusi. Ayamabushi (literally, "one who bows on the mountain") is a Japanese monk of theShugendō religion who lives a solitary hermit life in the mountains of Japan. In addition to their role as holy men,yamabushi also trained in martial arts to further themselves both physically and spiritually, and are known to have participated as warriors in major historic battles of the Sengoku period.
