Gargoyle
| ||||||
|
TheGargoyle (Japanese:ガーゴイルGargoyle) is amonster class that originates inFire Emblem Gaiden and returns inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones andEchoes: Shadows of Valentia. In all of its appearances, it is an enemy-only class. Gargoyles are flying beasts that attack fiercely and often in groups. InGaiden, gargoyles are coded to uselances, though their animation depicts them attacking with a scythe; thescythe becomes its monster weapon of choice inShadows of Valentia. InThe Sacred Stones, they uselances, making them similar to the playablePegasus Knight orWyvern Rider classes. Like the aforementioned classes, gargoyles are also weak tobows, and theWind Sword.
The more powerful variant of Gargoyles, and thus the "promoted" version, is theDeathgoyle; as in all games gargoyles appear in, they are unable to actually promote, but it is considered a promotion due to similarity between the classes and an increase in power.

Trivia
- InGaiden, Gargoyles are internally the same class asPegasus Knights; whether a unit is a Gargoyle or a Pegasus Knight is determined by its affiliation.
- InGaiden, gargoyles are depicted as wielding scythes in their battle sprites, despite that scythes do not exist as a properweapon type in that game, or in any other game in theFire Emblem series. Thescythe becomes their monster weapon of choice inShadows of Valentia.

| English | Gargoyle | "Gargoyles" are statues or carved faces of usually animal-like and sometimes grotesque figures built on the roofs of buildings such as churches and castles. Their practical purpose is to draw away water, but also to ward off evil.[1] The practice of putting gargoyles on buildings comes from the legend of thegargouille, a water-spouting dragon that terrorized France. The archbishop of Rouen, Saint Romain, lured it into town where it was slaughtered and burned. However, its neck and head did not burn, so they were hung on the cathedral to show the power of God. |
