TheFree Knight (Japanese:フリーナイトFree Knight) class is a class ofsword-using soldiers who ride horses while fighting. They appear only inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War andFire Emblem: Thracia 776, but later, theSword Knight class appears, which is virtually identical. They appear along with theLance Knight,Axe Knight, andArch Knight classes in those games, although theCavalier class is present.
Free knights are a quite useful class, as they can move around quickly and have quite balanced stats. InThracia 776, they candismount from their horses to travel across certain terrains and enter buildings, and for other purposes. However, since they use swords, they can only attack one space adjacent to them, and their low resistance makes them vulnerable to magic attacks.
Free knights promote to theRanger class in both games.
