Fort Rigwald (Japanese:リグバルド要塞Fort Rigwald) is the ninth chapter ofEphraim's route inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Plot

Main article:Fort Rigwald/Script

EmperorVigarde relays new orders to his generals inGrado Keep. Vigarde sendsGlen to captureEirika andValter toEphraim;Caellach to destroy the Sacred Stone ofJehanna andRiev to destroyRausten's stone; andDuessel to fight Ephraim andFrelia. Duessel asks Vigarde for his plans are forRenais, but Vigarde says to leave them. Vigarde instructsSelena to await further orders in the capital. As Vigarde andLyon exit the throne room, Duessel confronts them again. Duessel asks what the purpose of the war is, and accuses Vigarde of instigating murder; Viagrde does not answer him, instead repeating Duessel's orders to fight the Frelian army.

At Fort Rigwald, a soldier bringsTana beforeGheb, having captured her near the fort. Gheb has her put in a cell for a "thorough interrogation" later. Outside Fort Rigwald, Ephraim andSeth assess their ability to take it. Seth purports that the fort has never been taken, but Ephraim believes that the close relationship between Renais and Grado may render the soldiers' morale low; he believes if they can seize the throne, the soldiers will surrender.

As Ephraim's army approaches Fort Rigwald, one of the soldiers reports to Gheb; when one of the soldiers expressed discontent fighting Renais, Gheb berates him;Amelia stands up to Gheb, but Gheb intends to punish her insolence—he is interrupted by Ephraim's approach, and orders his soldiers to fight and die to protect him.

During the battle, Ephraim orFranz can talk to Amelia. Ephraim or Franz are concerned at how young Amelia is, and ask her to surrender; Amelia initially refuses, believing Ephraim to use female prisoners as slaves, but she is convinced to join by seeing Ephraim in person or by hearing Franz's account of him. Additionally, Ephraim can talk to Tana on the battlefield. Tana explains that she was captured trying to find him; Ephraim suggests that she return to Frelia, but Tana refuses, as she traveled to help him and has been worried.

After the battle, Ephraim questions one of the soldiers. Ephraim asks why the war started, but the soldier does not know. Ephraim instead asks about Duessel's whereabouts; the soldier answers that Duessel is in the capital, but that his outspoken opposition to the war has people questioning his loyalty. Ephraim finally asks about Lyon; the soldier states that, according to rumor, it was Lyon who convinced Vigarde to start the war—Ephraim is incensed, and cannot believe that Lyon, whom he knew to be peaceful, could start such a war.

Ephraim tells Seth they will leave the fort in Frelia's hands. Seth is concerned about Ephraim's idea of talking with Duessel or Lyon, but Ephraim assures him that he will fight to win if need be. Seth apologizes, stating that he is concerned with the future of Renais. Later, Ephraim asksMyrrh to return to Frelia, as they will head deeper into Grado where he will be less able to protect her. Myrrh refuses, as she can feel her dragonstone in Grado and feels she must investigate and curtail the dark energy emanating from there.

At Grado, Vigarde orders Selena to follow Duessel with a battalion; he orders her to execute Duessel as a traitor. Selena struggles to believe Duessel would betray Grado, and confronts Vigarde about his intentions—she relays his words from when she was instated as a general, that she is to "protect [their] citizens [...] not to threaten [their] neighbors". Vigarde ignores her, telling her to leave; Selena prepares herself to leave and execute Duessel.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

This section has been marked as astub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

First things first: moveTana to where she will not be attacked. There is no need to unlock her door, as the map begins with her recruited. ThePriest with thesleep staff may be a nuisance, but they can only put at most three of your units to sleep, so they aren't a major concern: just take extra care if moving down from the right side, as enemies with 2 range weapons will be ready. Priest aside, the rest of the map simply involves taking on the great amount of units. Finally, opening the chests in the top corridor requires strong units to deal with reinforcements, and defeatingGheb on player phase will yield aKiller Axe. Also, if you would like to recruitAmelia, make sure there are units nearby who can deal with surrounding enemy units.
