Forsyth (Japanese:フォルスFols) is asoldier inFire Emblem Gaiden and its remakeFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He is a member of theDeliverance.

Growth rates when reclassed

Promotion stat gains

InFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, promotion gains give the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base stats. If the character's stats are higher than their promoted class's base stats, they will not receive any bonus; however, if all stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.

Analysis

Forsyth joins late in Act 1 as a level 4Soldier. While he has better growths thanLukas in areas like attack and speed, the main problem with him is that he's quite hard to train compared to other units. When recruited in the Deliverance HQ, there is only onemap left for Forsyth to be deployed on in act 1. Unfortunately, the map proves to be very difficult for him to contribute anything on if he has not been promoted beforehand, as he has poor movement and subpar fighting abilities, and his base stats are similar to Lukas's, who joins at the very start of the game. As such, using Forsyth either requires grinding or babying to get him to promotion in a timely manner, and it takes three levels for him to reach that threshold.

Fortunately, his promotion toKnight greatly improves his HP, strength, and defense to the point where he can hit hard and take little damage, and his promotion to Baron gives him even greater durability and strength. His high attack makes him great at killing enemy Arcanists and one of the few units who can deal significant damage to Knights while easily taking the counter in return. While his 5 base speed is unspectacular, his 30% growth combined with the low speed of enemies of Act III enemies means he can reliably double the enemies he needs to, especially if given a speed fountain, and can make him surprisingly hard to double for his class, and his base resistance combined with his HP will allow him to take a respectable amount of hits from enemy magic casters. His poor movement hurts him, but as nearly all maps inShadows of Valentia are rout maps and theWarp spell is freely available, this is not as large of a hindrance as it would be in other games.

Overall, Forsyth will require significant effort on the player's part to become a viable team member. However, he can become a strong and sufficient team member with enough effort, though rarely will he be the best unit for a task.

Forsyth is one of the characters added to the game in theLethal Swordsman update, and became available for summoning by players on October 21, 2019. Only one variation of Forsyth is currently available inHeroes, based on hisEchoes: Shadows of Valentia incarnation.

Personality

Forsyth had very little characterization inGaiden, owing to his minimal dialogue. He was given an expanded personality inShadows of Valentia, where he has a straightforward attitude, being very passionate about fighting in theDeliverance. As a result, he is unable to understand apathy in other people, especially his childhood friendPython.

Forsyth: Loyal Lieutenant
Here's Forsyth! He's a brave soldier who dedicated himself to serving the Deliverance in its battle against the Rigelian Empire!	It was always Forsyth's dream to be a knight. But being of common origins, he soon discovered that it was rare for anyone other than members of the nobility to join the knighthood.	Forsyth believed that he could find a way in by making a name for himself. After earning the trust of Clive, he played a decisive role as his second-in-command!	Forsyth has a positive attitude that helps to embolden his allies as well. I just know that one day, he'll make his dream come true!
