The Binding Blade

Forblaze (Japanese:フォルブレイズForblaze), also known as thepurest fire (Japanese:業火の理Hellfire's Reason), is ananima tome introduced inFire Emblem: The Binding Blade. It is one of thelegendary weapons of the continentElibe, forged inthe Scouring to battledragons, and was wielded byAthos of theEight Legends.

History

As with the other eight legendary weapons, Forblaze was forged by humans during the Scouring for use byAthos of the Eight Legends, and during battle its power was part of the cause of theEnding Winter. After the Scouring came to an end, Athos sealed it away in a temple in his new home,Arcadia.[1]

WhenBramimond released the seal on the legendary weapons to permitEliwood andHector to use them to defeatNergal, Athos collected Forblaze from its resting place and used it to assist them in the fight. After Athos's death, Forblaze was placed back in its resting place, unlockable only by residents of Arcadia.[2]Twenty years later, after driving out theBern forces led byOates which occupied the temple,Roy obtained the tome with the assistance ofSophia, and used it in the war on Bern and theWar Dragons in its service.

Trivia

  • Forblaze is the only tome in theGame Boy AdvanceFire Emblem games to have completely different spell animations in the games it appeared in. This is later referenced inFire Emblem Heroes, with regular Forblaze using a similar animation fromThe Blazing Blade, and Studied Forblaze using a recreation of the original fromThe Binding Blade.
  • InFire Emblem: Path of Radiance, examination of thegame disc's contents has found that Forblaze is the internal file name ofRexflame, the game's S-rank fire tome.
  • After he is attacked by Athos,Nergal calls his magic "flame breath" in the English version; the equivalent Japanese text says Forblaze. "Breath" and "blaze" look similar in katakana (ブレス andブレイズ), but "flame" (フレーム) and "For" (フォル) do not.
