TheFlame Sword (Japanese:ほのおの剣Flame Sword) is asword introduced inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is one of a number ofmagic swords present in the series: it functions as a normal sword, fueled by the wielder'sstrength and targeting the enemy'sdefense, when attacking directly at 1 range, but can also be used to castfire spells to attack enemies at 2 range; in this case, it targets the enemy'sresistance stat and is fueled by the wielder'smagic stat. Additionally, inThracia 776 the sword gives swordweapon experience at 1 range, but it only gives fire weapon experience at 2 range, which will only increase fire weapon experience forMage Knights—the only playable class in the game that can use both swords and magic.

Unlike its sister swords, theLevin Sword and theWind Sword, the Flame Sword appears exclusively in the games taking place inJugdral.
