Thefire dragons (Japanese:火竜fire dragon;古の火竜Ancient Fire Dragon inThe Blazing Blade) are one of thedragon tribes ofArchanea andElibe. Fire dragons are the most commonly seen type of dragon in the series, and anymanakete can take this form using afirestone.

History

Archanea

Millennia before the foundation of theKingdom of Archanea, the dragons were the dominant race of the land, presiding over an enlightened and advanced civilization covering the entire continent. This changed one thousand years before Archanea's formation, as the dragons began to show signs of deterioration. When the Divine Dragon elders recommended that dragons seal their power intodragonstones andtake a human form to ensure their survival, the majority of fire dragons presumably complied, among themBantu. Some fire dragons either failed to comply or refused and thus degenerated into wild beasts as predicted; most of these fire dragons tended to dwell near theFlame Barrel, awaiting their death, thus earning the location the nickname "fire dragon boneyard".[1]

A number of fire dragons also found their way to the lower floors of theThabes Labyrinth, where they were encountered by a party led byAlm andCelica.

Elibe

Fire dragons also once lived onElibe in the era precedingthe Scouring, withJahn being one of their number; the artificialWar Dragons created byIdunn were all fire dragon manaketes as well. As with their fellow dragons, they were ultimately banished from Elibe through theDragon's Gate and were forced to seek refuge elsewhere at the Scouring's conclusion; however, 980 years (Elibe time) after the Scouring, four total fire dragons were summoned by the sorcererNergal through the Dragon's Gate to blight Elibe; the first one failed to make the full crossing and was destroyed by the gate; the next three were summoned after Nergal's death as revenge for his defeat. Two of the latter were killed by theice dragonNinian, while the third was confronted and eventually slain byEliwood,Hector,Lyn,Athos and their allies.

Class data

The Fire Dragon exists as a separate class from theManakete inMystery of the Emblem,The Blazing Blade,New Mystery of the Emblem andEchoes: Shadows of Valentia, almost entirely exclusive to enemies. InShadow Dragon & the Blade of Light,Mystery of the Emblem,Shadow Dragon andNew Mystery of the Emblem, any playable or enemy Manaketes can temporarily become Fire Dragons in battle through the use of aFirestone; however, inMystery of the Emblem, the Firestone is used from the items menu to transform a Manakete into a Fire Dragon both on the field and in battle for five turns, giving them access toFire Breath.

InThe Blazing Blade, the sole Fire Dragon in the game is an enemy:an unnamed dragon who acts as the boss of theFinal Chapter.

InEchoes: Shadows of Valentia, Fire Dragons appear exclusively inAct 6, in the depths of theThabes Labyrinth. One Fire Dragon must be fought at the end of B5F in order to obtain theSage's Shield, and gain access to the lowest floors of the dungeon. From B6F on, they may appear more commonly.
