Finn continues to accompany Sigurd through his travels in Verdane andAgustria before parting ways with him inSilesse so that Quan can raise an army to aid him. Finn is left behind in Leonster with Quan and Ethlyn's infant sonLeif, and is not present for theAed Massacre; KingTravant ofThracia murders Quan and Ethlyn, steals theGáe Bolg, and abducts PrincessAltena. AfterArvis conquers Jugdral, kills Sigurd, and restylesGrannvale into an empire, Finn flees into hiding in Thracia with Leif andLachesis.

Afterwards, he becomes the sole combatant member of Sigurd's former entourage to serve in Seliph's liberation army, accompanying him for the rest of the war with Grannvale and theLoptr Church.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Finn has decent base stats and growths, with particularly high luck and skill growths. Finn has Follow-Up, allowing him to attack enemies he is faster than twice, however, he can only use lances, which weigh him down considerably. Finn's other skill,Miracle, drastically raises hisavoid when he is below 11 HP; while it can save Finn's life in desperate situations and allow him to clear thearena more reliably, it only lasts for one turn and requires that he be at risk of death.

Enemies in the first two chapters almost exclusively use axes; while Finn facesweapon triangle disadvantage against these enemies, they tend to have low avoid, and Finn can reliably double them due to the highweight of axes—at base with an Iron Lance, Finn can double every axe-wielding enemy in the first two chapters exceptGerrard (for whom he needs one point of speed to double) andMunnir (for whom he needs two). Finn can struggle to double enemies wielding lighter weapons such asbows orswords, but can more reliably do so with theSpeed Ring that can be obtained in the Prologue, and generation 1 has few enemies with more than 5 attack speed. When he is able to double, Finn will be one of the strongest combat units when he is available. Additionally, Finn can receive aBrave Lance fromQuan in an event inChapter 2, allowing him to attack enemies up to four times, though other units can also use the Brave Lance well, such asErinys orSigurd. As Erinys' daughter,Fee is able to inherit the Brave Lance, it may be worthwhile to transfer it over to her for earlier access to it in the second generation; if so, it may be a good idea to get Finn promoted before the end ofChapter 3 so he can grab the secondSilver Lance, powerful enough to ORKO theSword Armors and OHKO theThunder Mages near him in Chapter 7, as a substitute. As Fee can't inherit Silver Lances, and Quan is likely to pass the other one to Altena, this can be a worthwhile means of passing equipment down.

Finn leaves Sigurd's army after Chapter 3 along with Quan and Ethlyn; however, Finn is also playable in the second generation—even if he was defeated in the first—and is only unit to be playable in both generations. In the second generation, Finn retains the stats and experience he had when he left the first. If promoted, he will be one of the strongest units in the army at the time he rejoins, though the higher average enemy attack speed means that he will suffer in the long term. Finn gains an Iron Lance in his inventory, and will retain the rest of his items unless he was married, in which case he loses them (even if they are not inherited). Finn provides a means of transferring items from the first generation to the second, similar toinheritance, but doing so requires the items be unavailable for Chapters4,5, and6.

As a father, Finn's primary contributions are Follow-Up, and Miracle. Miracle can be useful on units who otherwise would have a hard time surviving in combat, such asLene orPatty. If he is their father, Finn can talk withLarcei,Lana, orNanna in Chapter 7, granting them stat boosts; however, each child has other potential fathers that provide greater advantages to them or to their brothers. Additionally, none of the second generation sons are capable of inheriting lances from Finn. Furthermore, Finn will lose his entire inventory if he is married, removing his ability to transfer items from the first generation to the second and greatly reducing his ability to defend Leif and Nanna. Finally, as Finn leaves after Chapter 3, his ability to fall in love is restricted compared to other units.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Finn is aLance Knight who joins the player army atchapter 1, though he will not be available during theMunster chapters. He has great bases all around and despite having mediocre growth rates he will have solid offensive and defensive stats throughout the game. He comes with theBrave Lance, a powerful lance that's exclusive to Finn, which allows him to attack twice as often and gives him +10luck when equipped. This, combined with his mount, makes him one of the best units at capturing on outdoor maps. While the Brave Lance makes Finn into an offensive powerhouse at the start of the game, it's recommended to trade him a weaker weapon as, despite having 60 uses, there are better uses for it later in the game, and Finn can usually do just as well with a regularIron Lance early on. His Lance rank is great, allowing him to use every standard Lance from base, except forMaster Lances which he can use after promotion.

Finn also comes with the skillMiracle, a skill that saves its user from lethal attacks if it activates. However, Miracle is too unreliable to use consistently, despite Finn's high luck, though does reduce the risk of him dying from bad RNG. The Brave Lance's luck bonus helps, effectively boosting its activation rate by 30%. Finn is also one of the few characters to possess anauthority star, which improves thehit rate andavoid of all units by 3%.

As Finn is forced to dismount in indoor maps, as well as forced to only use a sword (which he has a significantly lower rank in compared to lances), his offenses will be vastly weaker compared to operating outdoors. Still, Finn makes for a decent filler unit in indoor maps as leadership stars are quite rare inThracia 776, and Finn doesn't need to do anything for its effects to work on his teammates, therefore he doesn't risk gettingfatigued during those maps as long as he doesn't get frequently attacked. He can reach C-rank Swords without too much effort to use the Kingmaker indoors, though he is far from the only character who can wield it.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Finn is playable as aSpotPass character, released in theThracia 776 character set. He is also present as an enemy in thefirst andthird installments of theLost BloodlinesDLC series.

As with several other legacy characters inAwakening, there is a unique weapon named for Finn available through theBarracks orevent tiles:Finn's Lance.

Main article:Finn/Heroes

There are two different variations of Finn available inHeroes.

Personality

Finn is shown to be a loyal and dutiful knight, with incredible loyalty to both Quan and Leif. He's shown to be somewhat inexperienced in the first generation of Genealogy, but he still catches Quan's attention enough to receive the Brave Lance from him and then be given the duty of protecting Leif. In the second generation, Finn is shown to be far more experienced, but also shown to be rather unemotional, as Leif states that he has not cried or laughed in years due to the hardships he has faced.[1] Though he still has some emotional moments, such as when he's shown crying after seeing Altena again.[2] Because of the lack of resources in Thracia after escaping the empire with both Leif and Nanna, Finn had to starve himself for both to receive food daily and nearly died,[3] but was helped by Eyvel.

Endings

Genealogy of the Holy War

If Leif or Altena is alive

And so, Leif/Altena worked together with
[...]
Finn, the lance knight,
[...]
to build a new nation for Thracia's people.

If Leif and Altena are both dead

The Thracian peninsula has lost both of its heirs, Lord Leif and Lady Altena, and with them died any hope of unification. Instead, the people turned to Seliph for their salvation, wishing to join with the Kingdom of Grannvale. Seliph, as the nephew of Queen Ethlyn and as the peninsula's liberating hero, had earned the trust of its people.

Finn, the lance knight,
[...]
Seliph granted the Thracians their wish, and so the Thracian peninsula became Grannvale's Royal Province of Thracia, and was blessed with an era of peace.

Thracia 776

Lance of Legend
After hearing word that Leif had safely taken the throne, Finn suddenly disappeared. It was three years before he was seen again, reappearing just as suddenly as he had first vanished. No historical records exist of where he had gone or what he had been doing during his long absence. The only evidence that remains are strange rumors that he had been seen in the Aed Desert.

Trivia

  • Finn has the best availability of all characters inGenealogy of the Holy War, being available in a total of 9 chapters. This is due to him being the only character in the game to be playable in bothSigurd's andSeliph's tales.
  • InGenealogy of the Holy War, due to having a high amount oflove growth withBrigid andTailtiu, Finn can have either of them as his lover just after 22-32 turns inChapter 3, depending on how long they stand next to each other.
    • This was done because Finn automatically leaves the player's control at the end of the chapter. If the player wishes to have Finn fall in love with one of these two characters, this is the only opportunity to do so.
  • According to Finn's profile in the (non-canon) art book for theŌsawa manga adaptation:[4]
    • He was 16 years old during late September, Grann 757.
    • His height is 174 cm.
    • He was born between January 1st and January 20th.
  • According toThracia 776's website, Finn was designed to look 34 years old.[5]

  1. "Leif: The night that Castle Leonster fell... The flames burned so brightly, I thought it was already sunrise. I remember just looking up at the sky from Finn's arms... At first, I didn't understand what was happening. But when I saw the look on Finn's face, I knew something terrible had happened, and I was filled with this... deep sorrow. It was the first time in my life I'd felt such a profound sadness...
Dryas: I forced Finn into a tough role, I admit. But he was the only man for the job - the only man I could trust with your life. "As long as the prince is safe, the day will come when Leonster rises again." That's what I told him. And off he rode, clutching you to his chest, away from the flames consuming the castle...
Leif: That was the last time I ever saw Finn cry. Ever since then, he hasn't shed a tear for anything... No, not just cry - it's like he forgot how to laugh, too...
" —Leif andDryas at the end ofChapter 16A,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
  2. "Finn: Thank you, my lady, but it is I who owes you an apology. Not once in the past seventeen years did I ever suspect that you yet lived on, let alone just across the border! My failure to search for you is... is inexcusable...
Altena: Sir Finn... Are those tears I see? Why... Why are you crying?
Finn: I... My apologies, my lady. You shouldn't have to see me in such a state as this...
" — Finn andAltena's talk conversation inChapter 9,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
  3. "I recall how often you'd let yourself starve, just so I wouldn't have to go without food..." — Leif to Finn in their talk conversation inChapter 8,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
