History
Origins
The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus was founded in Imperial Year 747 byLoog, who led the northern half of theAdrestian Empire in rebellion in a conflict that was later known as theWar of the Eagle and Lion.[5] Loog emerged victorious, and with the support of theChurch of Seiros as a mediator, Faerghus was formally recognized as an independent nation in 751.[6] An entry in theShadow Library of Abyss suggests thatthose who slither in the dark were involved in the rebellion.[7]
The eastern Leicester region of Adrestia later revolted in 801, and Faerghus occupied and annexed it;[8] 80 years later, Leicester launched its own movement for independence, leading to the foundation of the Leicester Alliance in 901.[9] In 1101, Faerghus contributed to an international effort to build a fortress on Leicester's eastern border known as Fódlan's Locket to defend it from incursions by the nation ofAlmyra.[10]
Modern history and reunification of Fódlan
In 1165, a plague devastated the Kingdom's populace and killed the queen consort.[11] King Lambert enlisted the help ofCornelia Arnim, and imperial scholar, who cured the plague in exchange for the kingdom's help in saving her friendAnselma; Anselma later took up the name "Patricia" and married Lambert. Cornelia was appointed as court mage, but was at some point killed and her identity assumed byCleobulus, a member of those who slither in the dark.
In 1176, KingLambert sought to institute major political reforms, earning the ire of many of the lords of the Kingdom.[12] He traveled to theDuscur region to negotiate a peace treaty with them, accompanied by a retinue of his knights and his young sonDimitri, but was ambushed and assassinated in an event known as the "Tragedy of Duscur". In response, the Kingdom invaded Duscur, genocided them, and annexed the country. As Dimitri was still very young, his uncleRufus became the kingdom's new regent.
Three Houses
Late in 1180, EmperorEdelgard von Hresvelg of Adrestia, blaming the Church of Seiros for the societal problems she believed were plaguing Fódlan, declared war on the Church and won the opening conflict in the Battle of Garreg Mach.
On all routes other than Crimson Flower, Dimitri returned to Faerghus, but was overthrown in a coup by Cornelia, forced into exile, and presumed dead. Cornelia allied with the Empire and helped subjugate western Faerghus, which he reformed as theFaerghus Dukedom (Japanese:ファーガス公国Duchy of Fergus). Houses Fraldarius and Gautier were left to spearhead the resistance as the primary opponents of the Dukedom.
On the Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes, Dimitri went into hiding in Fraldarius territory and raised an army to attack the Empire. He was defeated and slain in the Battle at Gronder, and Faerghus effectively ceased to exist as an independent state after his death; its territories were absorbed by the nascent United Kingdom of Fódlan after the war's end.
On the Azure Moon route, Byleth awoke from a coma late in 1185 and reunited with Dimitri atGarreg Mach Monastery, and the two led the Kingdom in battle against the Empire. After retaking the monastery to use as a base of operations, Dimitri and his allies launched a campaign against Adrestia by taking the Great Bridge of Myrddin on the Imperial–Alliance border. After a three-way battle between Adrestia, Faerghus, and Leicester, Dimitri returned to Faerghus and liberated Fhirdiad from the Dukedom. He then helped Leicester drive Imperial forces out of the Alliance capital of Derdriu; Alliance leaderClaude von Riegan disbanded the Alliance and ceded its territories to the Kingdom. Dimitri conquered Fort Merceus and made an unsuccessful attempt to sue for peace with Edelgard. He then invaded Enbarr and slew Edelgard, bringing an end to the war and the Empire; Fódlan was finally reunited under the rule of Dimitri and the Kingdom.
On the Crimson Flower route, Dimitri returned to the Kingdom and was formally crowned king. He sided with the Church in their conflict with Adrestia and gave ArchbishopRhea and theKnights of Seiros asylum in Fhirdiad. Over the next five years, Faerghus remained locked in a stalemate with Adrestia. When Byleth awoke from their coma, the war shifted decisively in Adrestia's favor. After defeating and annexing the Alliance, Edelgard and Byleth invaded Faerghus at the beginning of 1186. Dimitri intercepted them at the Tailtean Plains, but was killed; Adrestia then besieged Fhirdiad and killed Rhea, ending the war. Faerghus and its territories were annexed into the Empire.
Warriors: Three Hopes
Shortly afterShez joins the Officer's Academy,Rufus and Cornelia launch a coup in Fhirdiad, claiming Dimitri to be a puppet of House Fraldarius and accusing House Fraldarius of manipulating him. Dimitri requests aid from theKnights of Seiros and returns to Fhirdiad, where he executes Rufus and forces Cornelia to flee. Following these events, as well as a crisis in the empire and an attempted invasion of the Alliance by the Almyrans, Rhea closes the officer's academy. Two years later, Edelgard declares war on the Church of Seiros, quickly capturesGarreg Mach Monastery, forces the Central Church to retreat to the Kingdom, and begins an invasion of the Kingdom and the Alliance.
If Shez joined the Black Eagles, they assist Edelgard in her conquest of all of Fódlan. Several of the Kingdom's western lords swear loyalty to the Empire, allowing Edelgard to gain a foothold in the Kingdom, ultimately resulting in a decisive battle at Arianrhod that forces Dimitri to retreat. Edelgard then returns toEnbarr to make a pact with the Leicester Alliance. With the Alliance on her side, she continues her conquest of the Kingdom six months later and quickly defeats bothRodrigue andBaron Dominic. The Empire gets a decisive victory in a major battle at Ailell, where Dimitri is forced to retreat again, and several key figures of the Church are defeated. The Imperial army moves on to Garreg Mach and defeatsRhea in battle. If Shez successfully recruited Byleth, the Empire and Alliance march north to finish off the Kingdom; if Shez killed Byleth, the Alliance betrays the Empire and the war continues with no end in sight.
If Shez joined the Blue Lions, they aid Dimitri in rescuing the members of the Central Church before to fending off the Empire's invasion. Shortly after, Dimitri is forced to return to Fhirdiad due to a fabricatedSreng invasion and is captured. Cornelia allies herself with several of the western lords, who begin a revolt; the Kingdom army puts down the revolt, killingCount Rowe and Cornelia in the process. They then return to the front, leading to a decisive battle at Arianrhod where Edelgard is defeated, but is abducted byThales. In the following six months, the Kingdom makes a pact with the Alliance and begins a counterinvasion of the Empire before marching toward Garreg Mach Monastery through Ailell. At the monastery, they defeat Thales and capture Edelgard before continuing their assault on the Empire.
If Shez joined the Golden Deer, they initially fight back against the Empire before Claude decides to make a pact with them. The newly-founded Leicester Federation assists the Empire in their fight against the Kingdom by invading on the sea path. They eventually make it to Fhirdiad but are forced to retreat before they can capture it. The Federation later aids the Empire when the Kingdom and the Knights of Seiros attack Garreg Mach Monastery. During the battle, they force Dimitri and Rhea to retreat. Dimitri accepts that he cannot save both the Church and the Kingdom and abandons Rhea; the Federation chases Rhea to the Tailtean Plains and kill her. The Federation then sues for peace, but the Empire and Kingdom's reactions are unknown.
Politics
Since the death of KingLambert, his brotherRufus acts as the kingdom's regent. However, Lambert's policies left the kingdom divided, as the Western lords believe he favored the Eastern lords over them,[12] leaving many of them willing to revolt. Faerghus has a strained relationship with the neighboring country ofSreng, and does not have any official contact withAlbinea as theChurch of Seiros does not permit it.[13]

Culture

Locations of Faerghus
Fhirdiad

Fhirdiad (pronounced /ˈfɝdiˌæd/[key]; Japanese:フェルディアFerdiad) is the capital of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. It is located in Blaiddyd territory, and is the residence of the royal family. It is older than the Kingdom itself,[18] and was made the capital after the Kingdom gained its independence from theAdrestian Empire. Until shortly before the games' events, it had a poor infrastructure, which lead to diseases spreading rapidly. The late KingLambert hired a scholar namedCornelia, who helped to renovate the city's infrastructure and improved living conditions in the city.[19]
Fhirdiad is home to a renowned school of sorcery, which is said to be staffed by Fódlan's best magical researchers.[20]Mercedes,Annette, andConstance are all alumni of the School of Sorcery.Lorenz also briefly attended the school, but was called back into the Alliance after King Lambert's death.[21]
InThree Houses, on all non-Crimson Flower routes, Fhirdiad is captured byCornelia, who swears loyalty to the Adrestian Empire, effectively putting Fhirdiad – along with the rest of the Kingdom – under Imperial control. On the Azure Moon route,Rodrigue attempts to convinceDimitri to recapture Fhirdiad before attempting to defeatEdelgard, but Dimitri initially refuses. After Rodrigue's death, Dimitri decides to recapture Fhirdiad in an attempt to make up for his past mistakes. When the Kingdom army storms Fhirdiad, they discover that Cornelia had installedViskam and employedTitanus to bolster the city's defenses. Eventually, Cornelia is defeated and the royal capital is recaptured, which the people of Fhirdiad celebrate Dimitri for. On the Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes, Cornelia vanishes after Edelgard's defeat, and Fhirdiad – along with the rest of the Kingdom – becomes a part of the newly built United Kingdom of Fódlan. On the Crimson Flower route, Fhirdiad remains under the control of the royal family. AfterDimitri has fallen in the battle at Tailtean Plains, Rhea commands the remainingknights of Seiros to retreat to Fhirdiad. When the Imperial army storms the capital, she ordersCatherine to set fire to the city in an attempt to slow down their advance, but is ultimately defeated in battle.
Fhirdiad reappears inWarriors: Three Hopes, where it initially appears duringChapter 3 of the prologue if the Blue Lions were chosen. During the chapter, Dimitri, his class,Rodrigue, and some of the knights of Seiros storm the capital after his uncle,Rufus, had accused Rodrigue of manipulating him. Rufus is defeated and Cornelia, who had conspired with him, is forced to retreat. The city is later revisited duringChapter 7 of the Azure Gleam route after Dimitri,Dedue, Rodrigue, andGustave returned to the capital and vanish without further notice. It is revealed that they had been captured by Cornelia. The Kingdom army storms the royal palace and frees Dimitri; Cornelia responds by threatening the lives of the citizens, but is eventually forced to retreat. On the Golden Wildfire route, Fhirdiad serves as the location ofChapter 12, where the city becomes the location of a battle between the Federation army and the Kingdom army. At the end of the battle, Dimitri retreats into the royal palace, but the Federation army is forced to return to Leicester due to an attack bythose who slither in the dark.
Arianrhod
The fortress city ofArianrhod (pronounced: /ˈɑɹiænˌɹoʊd/[key]; Japanese:アリアンロッドArianrhod), also known asThe Silver Maiden (Japanese:白銀の乙女Silver maiden), is a location in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Located in Rowe territory, it is a key strategic location in southern Faerghus. Originally built by the Adrestian Empire, it later became property of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus after the Rowe family defected to it.[22] Arianrhod is fortified through a defense system involving trap floors on the ground.
On the non-Crimson Flower routes inThree Houses, Arianrhod is occupied by the Adrestian Empire whenCount Rowe defects to it. On the Azure Moon route, it is visited duringDimitri's paralogue, where the Kingdom army recaptures it and thus stabilizes its control over the southern Kingdom. On the Crimson Flower route, it remains under control by the Kingdom, but is controlled byCornelia, who is loyal tothose who slither in the dark. After the Imperial army captures Arianrhod and defeats Cornelia, they are visited byLord Arundel, who threatens them not to fight against other members of those who slither in the dark. At the end of the conversation,Edelgard is informed that Arianrhod has been destroyed byjavelins of light, and that everyone who was still at Arianrhod, including Count Rowe, had died in the attack.
InWarriors: Three Hopes, Count Rowe defects to Adrestia, and Arianrhod thus falls under Imperial control. Arianrhod appears on the Scarlet Blaze and Azure Gleam routes. On the Scarlet Blaze route, the Kingdom army, lead by Dimitri himself, besieges Arianrhod; the battle ends with Dimitri being forced to retreat and the deaths ofIngrid and – depending on the player's actions – Count Rowe andGwendal. On the Azure Gleam route, Dimitri besieges Arianrhod and succeeds in seizing it. Afterward,Edelgard leads an attempt to reclaim it, but is defeated in battle. When Dimitri attempts to confront her, Thales appears and transforms Edelgard into aHegemon Husk using a crest stone, causing her to destroy large parts of Arianrhod before vanishing.
Tailtean Plains

Tailtean Plains (pronounced: /ˈteɪltiːn/[key]; Japanese:タルティーン平原Tailteann plains) is the location of several important battles in the history of Faerghus and Fódlan as a whole. Many centuries later, Tailtean place was the site of a decisive battle in the War of the Eagle and Lion whereLoog defeated theAdrestian emperor.
During the events ofThree Houses, Tailtean Plains is the location of a decisive battle between the Imperial Army and the Kingdom on the Crimson Flower route. King Dimitri attempts to intercept the Imperial Army before they reach the capital of Fhirdiad, but is ultimately slain in battle.
During the events ofWarriors: Three Hopes, Tailtean Plains becomes the location of the final battle for the Golden Wildfire route. The Knights of Seiros attempt to retreat to the Kingdom, but ultimately decide to intercept theFederation army at Tailtean Plains. In battle,Seteth andFlayn are forced to retreat, andRhea is ultimately killed by the Federation army.

InThree Houses, its lord,Lonato, is killed during a battle with theKnights of Seiros. If he survives the war, his adopted sonAshe later becomes the lord of the territory.
On the Scarlet Blaze route ofWarriors: Three Hopes, Lonato survives the war and remains the Lord of the territory. On the Azure Gleam route, he is instead killed in a battle against the Knights of Seiros, causing the people of his territory to attempt to kill Ashe in revenge.
Conand Tower
Conand Tower (pronounced /ˈkoʊnən/[key]; Japnese:コナン塔Conand tower) is a tower that lies between the territories of Fraldarius and Galatea in the east of the kingdom. It was constructed under KingBanfig for the purposes of surveillance and defense againstSreng invasions.[23][24] In Imperial Year 1180, a group of thieves lead byMiklan occupied the tower after stealing theLance of Ruin. WhenByleth and their class attempted to take the lance back, Miklan was transformed into aBlack Beast and slain in battle.
The tower also appears as a possible location for the additionalauxiliary battles that were added as part of the game'sseason pass.
The temporary camp that is visited duringChapter 12 if Byleth sided withEdelgard is based on the top room of Conand Tower.
Camulus
Camulus is the name of a town in the southwest of Blaiddyd territory. Due to the 800-year-old cathedral located in the town, it has become a popular destination for pilgrimages.[25] InWarriors: Three Hopes, Camulus serves as the main refuge for theCentral Church after it was driven out ofGarreg Mach Monastery and requested aid by the Kingdom.
