Elice (pronounced /ˈɛlɪs/[key][2] or /əˈlis/[key][3]; Japanese:エリスElice) is the daughter of KingCornelius and QueenLiza, making her the princess ofAltea. She is also the older sister ofMarth.
Biography
Prior to game events
When training to become a cleric, Elice went under the tutelage ofGotoh,[4] who also gave her the staff ofAum.[5][a] WhenMerric was little, Elice commonly nursed him back to health;[7] she along with Marth were also very supportive of him following his dream of studying atKhadein.[8]
War of Shadows

During theWar of Shadows, the Kingdom of Altea fell to theDolhr Empire in A.C. 602.[9] Elice greatly aided in Marth's escape fromGra's forces closing in seeking his capture: taskingAbel,Frey, andMalledus to aid in Marth's leave for theisle of Talys[10][11] while confining herself to remain at Altea Castle with the people to honor those who fell defending the kingdom and buy the fleeing group time.[12]

Eventually, Elice came into the clutches ofGharnef, who took her to the Temple ofThabes and sought to use her in securing Aum's power for himself.[5] Gotoh—who previously protected her from Gharnef after locating her[13]—sent theArchanean League to Thabes with his warp magic in A.C. 605[b] to rescue Elice. The League ultimately thwarted Gharnef and successfully managed to rescue Her. Elice followed Marth to Dolhr Keep, and offered to wield Aum for the purpose of reviving a possible fallen ally at the Resurrectory.[17]
After the War of Shadows ended, Elice went back to Altea and continued to see Marth grow as a leader.[18]
War of Heroes
Elice was amongst those who remained in Altea after EmperorHardin ofArchanea ordered Altean soldiers to travel toGrust. However, Hardin's order was a ploy to scatter Altea's forces so he could easily invade the kingdom[19] which caused the outbreak of theWar of Heroes.[20] To protectCaeda, Marth's fiancée, Elice stayed behind and submitted to the enemy.
Elice came into hands of Gharnef again, who sought to use her blood, along withLena,Maria, andNyna's, to reviveMedeus as the Shadow Dragon. Gharnef brought the four of them to theDragon Altar and placed them into a trance making them obedient to Medeus. TheAltean League arrived at the altar in A.C. 608[c] and reached the top where Medeus and the four women were. Merric confronted Elice personally, which reverted her back to normal to which he made his vows to never leave her again.[22]
After the War of Heroes concluded, Elice and Merric together founded thePalace Magic School within thecapital of Archanea and later happily married.[23][24]

Compared toCurates available earlier likeLena orMaria, Elice doesn't offer much to justify using her over any other healer. She has very bad availability, as she is only available in the last two chapters; her growth rates are generally better than the other curates, but she comes to late to take advantage of this, not to mention how difficult leveling up Curates already is. However, inChapter 24 she has one huge element that makes her useful: she has exclusive use of theAum staff, which can be used once to resurrect a character that has died. This is immensely useful if you have lost one of your units; otherwise, Elice doesn't offer much other curates don't, though she has enoughweapon level to use everystaff butFortify andBarrier, and can buff out a roster forChapter 25.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.
Elice is largely useless and incredibly redundant as a unit in Book 1. Elice joins in the second-to-last chapter of the game, however she offers very little that one could need to get through the last two chapters. She joins six levels away from promotion, meaning with only two chapters of availability she will almost certainly be stuck in the Cleric class, which leaves her without the ability to use any offensive tomes. As for her staff utility, she is worse at base than almost all of your plentiful options for staffs would be with no investment at this point. She joins with a weapon level of 7, which is one short of being able to useFortify andWard, whichWendell,Maria, andBoah all can do at base. Her defensive stats are also incredibly low for the late chapters, and she will likely be one-rounded if left in range of any enemies. She is able to use theWarp staff, which can be incredibly useful for making the last two chapters easier, however every single staff user in the game can use it at base, with Elice being interchangeable with any of these units for this purpose. Even if used purely as a healer, she falls short of any trained staff users, with her base 1 strength meaning that only 1 extra point of HP will be added to the basic healing of a staff, with Physic for example only healing 11 HP when used by her. The only true niche for Elice lies in her personal weapon, theAum staff. If used on a specific tile in Chapter 19, this staff will bring back to life any unit who has died up to this point in the game. If you are playing a self-imposed challenge of not resetting upon unit death, this can be incredibly useful in this context to revive one of your strongest units for the last chapter. Removed from this context, or if one is playing carefully enough to not lose any units, this will not be an applicable utility, and Elice is relegated to entirely redundant purposes.
Book 2
Role
WhenMarth and the Altean army are sent on EmperorHardin of Archanea's orders to put down rebellions inGrust andMacedon, Elice remained behind in Altea. With the Altean army divided, Archanea and its allies invaded Altea and occupied its castle, with Elice allowing herself to be held as a hostage so thatCaeda could escape. During her captivity she was taken byGharnef to be one of four women of noble blood required to be sacrificed for the revival ofMedeus, along with EmpressNyna of Archanea, the clericLena, and PrincessMaria of Macedon.
By the time Marth reaches the Dragon's Altar, Medeus has already been revived, albeit in an incomplete form, with the four noblewomen surrounding him in preparation to be sacrificed and consumed to strengthen him to the point of full revival. The four have been hypnotized into subservience to Medeus by Gharnef.Merric approached Elice and plead for her to awaken from her trance and confessed that he had learned magic in order to protect her, which awakes her from the hypnosis. After the defeat of Medeus, her and Merric opened a magic academy together in Pales.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.
Elice joins in the very last chapter of the game, and as such contributes almost nothing over the course of the game. She will likely only have at most a few turns to contribute, so her usefulness will be very limited. She comes with aFortify, which can restore 15 HP to every unit, and since it comes with 12 uses and this is the only time it can be used, you should feel free to have her spam it each turn. Other than that, she is incapable of dealing damage toMedeus since he is immune to tomes, and you would have to trade her a tome for her to use them. The only thing she can damage is theEarth Dragon reinforcements, but there is no reason to do this since the Binding Shield gets rid of them at the start of each turn. She can help heal your units while you deal with Medeus in the last chapter, but for obvious reasons she doesn't contribute for practically any other reason.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Role
InShadow Dragon, Elice stays behind in the Altean Castle as it is being captured by Dolhr. She is captured butGharnef does not kill her; he wants her to use theAum Staff, a staff that brings the dead back to life. When Marth retakes the castle, he rescues her and she joins him as a cleric.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.
The only thing that matters about Elice is her A staff rank. Her base stats are terrible and ensure that she should never see combat, especially near the end of the game. Her primary purpose is to use the Aum staff to revive any unit that has died throughout the game. She is by far the most convenient Aum user, since Maria starts with a low staff rank, and Caeda and Minerva are much better off staying Dracoknights. In addition to Aum, she is able to use Physic, Recover, Warp, and Fortify, letting her serve as a great support unit for the final few maps. Promoting her gives her an extra point of Movement, and since any units the player is still using should be promoted by now, there is virtually no cost to this if there's an extra Master Seal in the convoy.

Elice is effectively a non-unit: she is primarily there for story purposes, and you do not even have to recruit her to progress. Failure to do so, however, mandates her death, be it by the player or Medeus using her as a sacrifice.
That being said, despite her atrocious stats, she is not completely useless. While her healing output with magic-scaling staves is genuinely horrible, she can still useRecover to fully heal an ally with her action each turn, which can easily be brought to her by putting it inMerric's inventory and trading it over after Merric recruits her. Additionally, between herself andNyna, the two can heal everyone else for 28 HP total with twoFortify casts, which can potentially free up other staff users' actions by providing some healing whenever it is needed. On anything lower than Lunatic, she can also use theAum if things go wrong, at the very least freeing up another, potentially better trained, Aum user's action.

Notes
- ↑InShadow Dragon, Aum is described to have been lost to the world until Gharnef found it,[6] indicating Gotoh never gave it to her in that game specifically.
- ↑TheCamus the Sable chapter is described to take place three years after Archanea Palace fell in A.C. 602.[14][15] Since the War of Shadows ends in A.C. 605,[16] that means all chapters after it also occur in that year.
- ↑The War of Heroes ended in A.C. 608,[20] and Hardin's death—which occurred before Marth went to the Dragon Altar—happened in the same year.[21]
