Deathgoyle
| ||||||
|
TheDeathgoyle (Japanese:デスガーゴイルDeathgargoyle orバルログBalrog) is an enemy-exclusivemonsterclass which was introduced inFire Emblem Gaiden (although they were not a separate class from Gargoyles inGaiden) and so far only appears in it, its remakeEchoes: Shadows of Valentia, andThe Sacred Stones. They are a species of flying,lance orscythe-wielding reptilian monster and are a magically-enhanced variant of theGargoyle monster species. They are classified as anadvanced class and the"promoted" version of the Gargoyle. They tend to appear in the later parts of the games instead of regular Gargoyles, inGaiden appearing for a single map in Act 5.
As a flying class, Deathgoyles act as a monster equivalent of the playableFalcoknight,Wyvern Knight, andWyvern Lord classes. They have highstrength,speed, anddefense, and with their highmovement and ability to fly without being hindered byterrain, they are adept at quickly closing in and swarming the player's army in numbers. However, inThe Sacred Stones, their nature as a flying class makes them vulnerable tobows and theWind Sword. Additionally, since they have lowresistance, they are easily defeated bymagic.

Trivia
- InFire Emblem Gaiden,gargoyles (including deathgoyles) are depicted as wielding scythes in their battle sprites, despite that scythes do not exist as a properweapon type in that game, or in any other game in theFire Emblem series. Thescythe becomes their monster weapon of choice inEchoes: Shadows of Valentia.
- InFire Emblem Gaiden, the Deathgoyle does not exist as a class; all Deathgoyles are genericGargoyles, with Deathgoyle being the units' names. This trait is shared with theLich andEntombed; their differing palette is a result of all Deathgoyles having alevel greater than 9.
