The people of Isaach are treating these rebels like some kind of heroes of freedom... But it's high time they learned the error of their ways!
— Danann

Danann (Japanese:ダナンDanan) was the Duke ofGrannvale's HouseDozel from Grann 760, the successor of his late fatherLombard, and the appointed King ofIsaach following its conquest by Grannvale. Remaining loyal to his father and Grannvale unlike his younger half-brotherLex, Danann ruled as a tyrant over Isaach from the southern Ribaut Castle until his downfall at the hands ofSeliph in Grann 777.

Biography

In the aftermath of the war against Isaach in Grann 760, Danann was sent to Isaach with theGrauritter to put down insurrections against the new Grannvale authority; he was supposed to provide his fatherLombard with reinforcements in fightingSigurd's army atLubeck Castle, but was delayed and unable to get there in time, resulting in Lombard's death.[2] Following this, Danann succeeded him as Duke of Dozel and was appointed the King of Grannvale-occupied Isaach. Governing from Ribaut Castle in the south, under his regime the Isaach natives were reduced to slave status; however, owing to the reluctance of his sons and governing assistantsIuchar andIucharba to participate in the Empire's more heinous activities, Isaach was one of the better-off nations during the days of the Grannvale Empire.

Seventeen years later in Grann 777, upon learning that the long-hunted Isaach rebellion led by PrinceShannan was stationed in the remote village ofTirnanog, Danann ordered an assault on the town, promptingSeliph to emerge from hiding and lead his limited forces in repelling the Dozel assault. Seliph's band eventually arrived at Ribaut, where he confronted and slew Danann, freeing Isaach from Grannvale control.

Personality

Not unlike his father, Danann was ill-tempered and merciless to all in opposition to him; even as he subjected the people of Isaach to inhumane treatment, he lived a life of excess at Ribaut.[3] He had a preoccupation with power and prestige, with his primary fear of the existence ofShannan's rebel army being that his authority was being undermined and that Arvis would not take kindly to the news.[4] According toIucharba, Danann was extremely weak-willed when confronted byLoptrian agents, letting them have free reign over Isaach to their tastes and putting up absolutely no resistance or objection.[5]
