Damas (Japanese:ダマスDamasu) is the leader of a group of bandits from Mount Bolm during the onset of theDisturbance of Bern.[1] A lowly bandit fromLycia, he and his band decide to take advantage ofPherae's low defenses, attacking the castle and the adjacent villages.[2]

He manages to strike a village beforeRoy's group arrives; however, instead of running away, Damas refuses to pass up this opportunity of making gold, and orders his men to attack the reinforcements; resulting in his defeat by Roy's forces.

Trivia

Screenshot from a July 2001Famitsu preview
  • Damas has an unused color scheme for his battle sprites that is never seen in normal gameplay, as it is incorrectly assigned to be used as a promoted unit.[4]
  • A prerelease screenshot showed that Damas was originally in theBrigand class, before it was changed to theFighter class in the final game; his unit data in the final game still lists him as a Brigand.

Damas is an uncommon surname, seen in Spanish and French-speaking countries.[5] Other sources suggest it is a Greek name for boys, meaning "subduer".[6]
