Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Dalsin joins near the end of Chapter 4, and his most standout trait at base is a high defense stat and solid HP stat, allowing him to tank physical enemies and even take a respectable number of hits from enemy mages despite his low magic. He also has a decent 9 base strength backed by a 50% growth, which pairs well with the high damage of axes. Unfortunately, he has 2 base speed and a 25% growth, which means he struggles to double, and combined with his 0 base luck and 25% luck growth he struggles to dodge attacks as well. Additionally, while his skill growth isn't terrible, his low skill base of 3, when combined with the lower accuracy for axes in comparison to other weapons, can make his hit rates rather shaky. The support bonuses he receives fromLeif can help him, but he won't always be able to stay close to him, since he is stuck with a movement of 5 regardless of being indoors or outdoors unless heClass changes toGeneral or gets a lucky level.
Dalsin joins with a B rank in axes, which is enough to use all non-personal axes in the game. The best axe Dalsin can be given is theBrave Axe if the player wishes to bring it intoMunster; it gives him better accuracy and allows him to hit enemies twice, which is most notable against mages which he can one-shot. He also benefits from takingDagdar'sHammer during the Munster chapters, as with it, he can one-shot armored enemies even when capturing, though his hit rates with it will be poor due to the Hammer's base 50 hit.
One of Dalsin's flaws aside from his lack of speed and low movement is his high constitution. While it allows him to wield most weapons without being weighed down, it also makes him harder to rescue, since he will give his rescuer movement penalties. If Dalsin levels constitution 4 times (while promoted; 5 times if not promoted), he will hit 20 constitution, making him flat-out impossible to rescue. This is especially problematic considering Dalsin's low movement; he could be rescued by a mounted unit to get him somewhere faster, but because of his high constitution, it becomes difficult to move him around the map. It is not as impactful indoors, where mounted units mustDismount and most units have the same movement as Dalsin, but on outdoor maps, it is very easy to notice.
Another one of his flaws is the fact that he is an armored unit.Armorslayers and Hammers are common weapons among enemy forces in certain chapters, notably inchapter 14,19, and the final three chapters; these weapons will consistently be able to 2-3HKO even a well-trained Dalsin. Many late-game chapters also feature many magic users as well, which can further limit the amount of enemies he can safely tank.
If one desires to use Dalsin long-term, he should be equipped with theCed Scroll to gain a massive 30% boost to his speed growth. He also makes an excellent candidate for an early promotion. Promoting him gives +1 movement, +5 skill, fixing his accuracy issue, and +4 defense, allowing him to tank even more effectively. Additionally, it gives him E-Swords, allowing him to use theParagon Sword for an additional +5 defense; with so much defense, Dalsin can tank physical enemies and even bosses without issue.
Overall, Dalsin is at his best from when he joins throughchapter 5, where he is the most durable unit available and, if given the proper equipment, can kill most enemies thanks to theBrave Axe. However, his high constitution and low movement hurt him inChapters 6 and7, and as the game goes on other characters with better stats will compete for the weapons and resources he needs to be viable. Fortunately, he can be left him behind in Chapter 5 to avoid having to carry him through the outdoor sections of Munster if the player doesn't want to use him long-term.
Personality
Dalsin was primarily concerned by the ongoing survival of his siblings, Diana and Jubel, and was motivated in his work to ensure their happiness; when he learned of Jubel's abduction in child hunts, he felt he could no longer serve Munster.

Dalsin, Knight of Unwavering Resolve
Determined to protect everyday folk from bandits, Dalsin relocated to Kelbeth's Gate, near where his siblings lived. He maintained a round-the-clock watch, fighting off brigands every day and night. For a time, his life was a cycle of battle. But before long, the bandit gangs that had long plagued the area around the fort were all but wiped out. Once said to be a place "more terrible than Hell itself," the fort was now called "more safe than the gates of Heaven."
