Dagda (pronounced /ˈdægdə/[key]; Japanese:ダグザDagda) is a continent located at the far southwest ofFódlan. Its lands stretches both into the north and south, gifting it a multiple variety of climates and terrains.
Geography
Dagda borders theBrigid archipelago. Due to its great distance from Fódlan, there is little information about it. Because of its large size and contradictory claims about its climate—ranging from a tropical rain forest to a frozen plateau—it is speculated by the people of Fódlan that Dagda supports a wide variety of terrain and climates.[1]
History
While not much is known about Dagda's past, it has been recorded as the having fought over the nation ofBrigid with theAdrestian Empire for many years.[2] In Imperial Year 721, the Dagdan army invaded Fódlan from across the sea, and while the lands sustained heavy damage, the Imperial Army managed to drive its forces off.[3] In 728, the Adrestian empire conquered Brigid, which was allied with Dagda at the time.[4] In 731, the Empire attempted to launch a large scale invasion of Dagda from Brigid, which was ultimately unsuccessful.[5]
In 1175, the Dagda and Brigid War occurred, where both nations joined forces in an attempt to invade the Adrestian Empire, managing to cause considerable damage by destroying House Ochs and House Nuvelle, which occupied the land's shores. During the war,Shamir, a Dagdan mercenary, lost her lover during battle against the Adrestian army. Afterwards, she left Dagda and traveled to Fódlan, living as a wanderer up until she ended up inAbyss and eventually joined theKnights of Seiros atGarreg Mach Monastery.[6] The Dagda and Brigid war ended whenCount Bergliez managed to kill the king of Brigid in battle.[7]
Culture
While not much is known about Dagdan culture,Shamir states that the people of Dagda worship different gods than the people of Fódlan. InWarriors: Three Hopes, she reveals toHapi that the statue at thePagan Altar in Abyss depicts the Dagdan God of Fate.[8] According to Shamir, Dagda allows for more personal freedom than Fódlan, which also lead to more conflicts.[9]
